Vassal Armada Tournament

By MattShadowlord, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi!
It sounds like a number of us are veterans of Xwing tournaments on Vassal. Personally I found them a tremendous way to learn the game, and to play against some of the world's best -national, regional and world champions, as well as people of all skill levels. Also, it's fun.

Ransburger has done an amazing job of making the game play smoothly and fast on Vassal, it's hard to believe it is only version 1.0.

If there are about a dozen interested people it's probably worth organising a small tournament on Vassal - either current version or after Ransburger releases the new update. Would anyone be interested in that?

Well this is convenient. I was planning on organizing something once the new version is released.

I'm anticipating a release about 2 weeks from now. I'd been holding off to see if we got any new stuff at gen con.

I would be interested in participating. There are some heavy claims thrown around here these days, and it would be nice to back them up with some games.

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. I played at gencon and had a blast. When you get this running I would love to play.

thanks

I would be interested as well. It's been difficult to get games in IRL and I have been wanting to play via vassal.

Hmmmm I have Vassal. . . I need to download the module and get practicing

I would be interested, but I don't know what my access to a PC is going to be like for the next month or two :/

Count me in! my play buddy is away for 2 weeks so I'm in dying need of armada!

Oooh, nifty. I'll have to download Vassal and see what all this excitement is about. I'd be interested in a tourney too, if I can swing the time. What's the usual time frame for a tournament over Vassal?

A vassal tournament sounds Great!! Count me in :)

Count me in too.

Count me it! Now I just need to practice with the software...

I would be interested as well :)

Could definitely be done between vassal and VOIP coms. DO IT!

Hell, I don't get nearly as much Armada as I want (probably because I'd never be productive :()

let's go shave more work hours off my week :D

The joy of working 3 days a week in 10-24 hour chunks is that I have a lot of time to sit around at home messing with Armada stuff.

The drawback is, you know, 24 hour shifts.

Count me in too, though I am new to online play with Vassal.

So I messed around with the interface a bit. Seems okay. Though is it just me or does vassal seem like a tool that requires multiple monitors?

Also, how can you rotate ships in smaller increments during deployment? And is there a way to have them snap to the maneuver tool at the correct speed?

Finer rotation currently implemented in v 2.0

Snapping to the tool in progress... will be part of 2.0

So I've been toying around with the module and I noticed the AF only has 3 shields on the front and I cant get it to increase above that. I'm not sure if this is a bug or I'm just not doing something right. Either way I just wanted to let you know.

I feel like this could be the nudge I need to use the vassal module. I always feel like I'd be intruding on another person's game, or worry that I won't be able to finish a game (despite the fact that you can easily save the game and finish later... It's literally the most portable of tables).

Already got that one, thanks for checking though!

Thanks for the work on v2. Taking away as much as the multi-screen-ness (woo fake word) as possible would also be highly desirable. Some of this, like use of the die roller, may be unavoidable given the software's limitations.
