SW Battlefront: Fighter Squadron Combat Trailer

By Wraithdt, in X-Wing

I use to love the 360 up until Ms tried to pull a fast one and make second hand games obsolete.

Plus the always having to be connected online. Then their bs saying they listened to their customers and did a complete 180. Which was a complete lie. Obviously the only thing they listened to was the Pre order numbers, as ps at the time was murdering them

I'm actually surprised at the hardware specs on the new Xbox.

Not sure what it's like now, but games weren't even running at 1080p, and in one case (forget which game. Destiny I think) the developers toned down the framerate/or/700p on ps4 because they didn't want one system to perform better than the other (which actually really bugged me, because of Ms crappy machine games are actually being effected on ps4)

Idk but like Facebook I've become totally anti Xbox.

The ps network is pretty good, but has had issues, but so hasn't Xbox.

It's too bad. Right up till their reveal of Xbox One I was all for it. After their shenanigans, I basically won't buy any ms products.

My next laptop will be a macbook

I haven't been following the news on the new consoles at all, in fact I only just got the 360 less than a year ago when a friend needed some cash and sold it to me for $60 with a bunch of games. I'm no fan of Microsoft, I stopped using Window about nine years ago, until my macbook pro started having trouble playing video (but it is like 9 years old), now on a dell with vista I got for free but I hate it. I still use the old mac for music production and graphic design work though, I think the OS is far superior, even if the hardware is kind of an over priced scam, lol

Is there anything I should read up on about the PS4 & Xbox One before buying one?

I can tell you some good things about Xbox One. With Cloud it has more power, it also completely backups everything you do in all your games. If someone steals your Xbox you can get a new one and Microsoft will have all your game data loaded into the new one. You don't have to get a Kinect but if you do it adds a lot of control you wouldn't have both in games and in the hub. Some of those games have special Kinect only features, like in ALIEN: ISOLATION it uses the data collected from your body by reading your heart beat to effect the game play. Xbox live is much more secure than the PS or Computer equivalent. Xbox Live has been hacked once maybe twice, PS network has been hacked way to many times, and Sony has been taken to court twice now because of the security issues with their Network, one of those cases involved a major hack in the European Union.

The exclusives are much better. Xbox has HALO, My Little Pony dlc timed exclusives, Gears of War, Killer Instinct, most Rare games including Battle Toads, World Of Tanks (its got features that the Computer version doesn't like Star Wars themed gameplay or LASER tanks on the Moon.) If we are talking about the 360 then you can add a bunch of Star Wars exclusive stuff. Nintendo exclusives are good... except Star Fox, they just cant continue his story they have to keep redoing the series, Sony exclusives so far have been dull. There might be some exceptions but most the exclusives have had boring game play, the only thing good going for them is pretty animation, BUT good graphics can only take you so far, its the story and game play that matters.

Just as a side note the only reason at this point I would pick Killer Instinct over Street Fighter 5, its a PS4 PC exclusive, is because of characters. Street Fighter 5 doesn't have Dhalsim in it, which is a deal breaker since it also doesn't have Akuma. They keep adding characters every season in Killer Instinct. For the third season they added Rash from Battle Toads. Thats a pretty freaking awesome character too have I think.

I also thought you should know during the DRM announcement for Xbox, one of the Microsoft employes "Ed Fries" was very antagonistic towards customers concerned they couldn't play their Xbox if they had no internet connection. He was really really antagonistic. Then one day he quit working at Microsoft and became like a head director for Ouya. It happend really quickly. I think its a bit specious and no one ever talks about that ether. Ouya is another 8th gen gaming system but because of issues it was not legally allowed to be shown off at E3 the year it came out. Very recently Ouya died and was absorbed into razor. Ouya would pay up to a mil for funding on new games if it granted that game would be published first on their system. They eventually owed too much money too these game designers. Unfortunately because of contract they are not legally obligated to pay what they owe to these people. So they were screwed out of a lot of money.

. Where you get this information?

Seeing as destiny was downgraded on the ps4 due to the development wanting to keep the visuals on both systems the same.

Kinetic is probably the biggest dumbest thing they came out with.

I bought into the first one and it is crap. I tried to defend it, but seriously, the best thing for it is dance games.

I have friends with an Xbox One and they don't even use it

Originally the kinect was bundled with every Xbox One. Then people found out that the kinetic was one reason why the Xbox has such poor performance. So now they don't bundle it anymore (and basically anyone who bought into the kinect ver2 is left with a paper weight as studios are less likely to develop for it,) same thing with the first Xbox.

Halo is not that great of a game.

I've bought into halo games in the past because of the hype and came away disappointed.

Gears of War same thing

They're not bad games, but Meh.

When I played the last of us, I was blown alway by the story and visual, and it is one of my favorite games. I never played the uncharted but heard they were good.

The Xbox community was up in arms over destiny getting timed exclusive on the ps4. Seriously who cares?

Ps4 has its own great exclusives and mmo if your into that

How many Xbox 360 have I had to have replace, I believe I was on 7 due to their red ring of death.

Still have my original ps3

And that goes for a lot of people I know.

I have a friend that own the Xbox One, and we like to tease each other, but his argument is alway the same. He likes he can switch from his Xbox to his TV without having to get off the couch and use only one remote.

The Xbox doesn't know if it wants to be a game console or some media center.

I'm not that lazy I can't get off my couch

I just wanted a machine that plays games, and one that does it well

I like good quality in my picture (which is why i have a Panasonic Vt60 series TV) so for me it's a no brainer the ps4 visually is better.

I know I'm coming off as a huge ps fanboy but I don't think I am

I just despise MS and am surprised how people still manage to give them money and defend them

I'd advise someone to buy a wiiu or a atari over any ms product

Oh and yes the ps4 you can save your games in a cloud if that is something that Is a selling point ( but probably isn't)

I'm not worried about someone stealing anything from my house

Edit

Yes the Xbox is going to have backwards compatibility but I always felt if I have old games and console I can just use that (I usually don't go back to old gen once I get next gen)

The ps4 has now outsold the ps2 and the majority of people are on ps4. They have outsold the Xbox One by a huge margin so far

Ok watching this just gave me goosebumps all over. I'm getting a strong Rogue Squadron vibe from it. I think this trailer just sold Battlefront to me. I just hope dog fighting is not as clunky in this as it was in Battlefield.

What do you guys think?

Totally agree, the doubt now is if i'll get the PC version (and probably need a laptop update) ,or directly go to the console version(PS4/xboxone).

-snip for blatant shilling-

Are they paying you or do you shower in the koolaid every morning?

Well he is responding to my questions about the system. I am pretty much out of the loop when it comes to video games, I only just learned about DLC a few weeks ago, so anything helps, you know. Well maybe not that bit about My Little Pony, I'm pretty sure I can skip that gem.

It's all in the tone, and badly-paraphrased marketing drivel does not good information make.

All the heat and pressure in the world couldn't turn that cow-pie into a gem~

Judging by the trailer this must be an entirely different game mode than what was shown in the alpha gameplay footage, yeah?

I was kind of hoping they'd handle it similar to BF4 where you could have troops on the ground, and then dogfights happening simultaneously in the air.

Regardless -- I am so freaking excited for this game. Between this and Fallout 4, I should just take the entire month of November off of work :P

They will have that, but this is a mode solely for air combat. You have to eliminate the ground players so you can have more players in the air. As tech improves, we'll be able to have more and more people in the battles so we can get the best of both worlds at once, but there's always a limit to how many people you want in a game

Planetside is looking at you

Looks arcade-y. I'm still wishing for something more like a flight sim - like the old X-Wing games, but with up to date graphics.

^^ This. So much this.

So awesome.

Too bad I spent all my money on xwing.

I just bought an Xbone so that's the platform I'll be getting it on. It'll be nice to have a multiplayer game with working matchmaking, unlike the Master Chief collection. All they had to do was port 4 Halo games I don't understand why it takes 5 minutes to find a match and I don't understand why it forces you to press B to boot yourself out of the lobby at the end of each game so that way you have to search for 7 more players again. There are plenty of people playing it, it's not like I'm having to wait so long because it's not populated.

meh, some questions

Why is it the Imperials the ones trying to escape? Is every X-wing squadron now Red Squadron? (okay fuschia squadron sounds stupid). Also why can't they put this in Space with Star Destroyers when a decade ago we could with Nintendo's worst console the game cube?

Well the trailer looks nice but just how many times have you seen a nice trailer when the final product does not look as advertised? Did we see some gameplay? A little more than what was announced but I'm still not convinced. It is scripted edited story arc and all but does not look anything like the gameplay. I'm still not preordering NOT from EA.

Skip to 1:43 to see an opinion that matches mine.

So to answer a few of these, first they have said that they could put it in space but that their view of battlefront is ground combat so they want the battles to be taking place on or around planets. Now I believe them to a certain degree however I think there is another company working on a dedicated flight sim/dog fighting Star Wars game like rogue squadron or xwing. This is why battlefront is not including space combat in this game, not because they can't but because it would compete with another product that's in the works. Reason I say this is someone you might remember the web based Star Wars dogfight game that was out very briefly called attack squadrons I believe. I'm pretty sure another company is developing something similar for Disney and so they pulled the game. Now I don't have proof for any of this obviously but just my theory based on what's been said and done. Don't get me wrong I would love to have space battles in here but looking at the previous battlefront games if I remember correctly there was only 2 or 3 space arenas to play in. Battlefront mainly took place on the ground or if it was in space the arenas were placed inside ships or the Death Star. A couple maps like 2 or 3 allowed you to fly out of the hangar and onto another ship and damage it however inside those ships was very small. Again they could have put this in the game but it's just not a mode that was featured prominently in the other battlefronts. Ground combat and atmospheric flight was what its roots are. I have hope that there is a true dogfighting game coming out. There are a few other companies working on Star Wars IPs right now that haven't been announced what they are working on. Hopefully one of those is rogue leader or similar.

Now to answer your question about it not looking like the final product and no gameplay. Well in the dogfight trailer a lot of that was gameplay since you'll notice the stats when a ship is destroyed with points next to it. There was also cutscenes but I would say roughly half of that trailer was in fact gameplay. Also the hoth mission that was posted earlier was all gameplay footage. Also being that it comes out in 3 months chances are what we are seeing is going to be pretty close to the final product.

Figures that the Rebel Scum have to rely on Han and the Falcoln to get anything done. But I'm definitely going to have to upgrade my PC by November.

BF was good through 2142, meh to awful after. Mass Effect was excellent-to-good and then had the singularly worst ending in the history of video games. TOR is like bad fanfic and can't do anything interesting because it refuses to stop badly rehashing existing SW ideas.

Bad Company 2 was the high point of the Battlefield series, so your judgment is clearly suspect. The idea that Battlefield 4 was meh to awful is, uh. Well, suspect judgment CONFIRMED. Mass Effect did have a terrible ending, but A: that was way overblown and B: if a series gives you 60 hours of excellent-to-good and ten minutes of terrible, so what? Did the sixty hours of excellent disappear or something?

Beyond that, the generic gamer rage at EA remains inexplicable and hilarious.

Planetside is looking at you

True but several things here...

1) PC

2) They placed a bit of emphasis on spreading out the pop across zones and planets

3) If you've played in a hugely contested zone, it can be pretty hard on your system unless you're completely up to date

Like I said, over time we'll see higher numbers, but currently, to ensure performance, the idea behind stand alone air battles is so you can have larger numbers flying than in a regular battlefield battlezone

And darn you, now I want to play Planetside again > :(

Edit: Also, removing people and placing them in ships means you can maybe have larger maps for the air battles? idk much about how map size limits performance

The ending of asseffect was not overblown we invested hundreds of hours over years only to receive a massive middle finger for our loyalty, more than £100 spent on the game and dlc.

We were not upset shepherd died, we weren't freaked out you could make him homosexual or any of the other stuff EA accused us of in order to dismiss our fully justified disappointment and anger.

We were promised our choices would matter they gave us the same ending three times with a palate swap, they revel tallies face and its a free photo with lazy photoshopping, same with that end shot I seem to remember.

The anger only got so bad because they refused to admit they messed it up and only fixed it because pressure was too much to ignore.

EA is the evil empire and its reasonable to worry about all their products look at dungeon keeper and more recently SimCity.

Found the link, surprise my phone let me copy and paste lol

I'm dubious as to the accuracy of that - it was a mention in the comments and not part of the official story.

Most systems have a maximum player load based on the system type - PS3 vs Xbox360 was famous for the PS3 & PC having 64 players in their versus matches while Xbox360 could only manage 24.

I'd wait for official word before getting too worried about it.

Looks like I'm gonna need an Xbox One now...

Go ps4. It's a much better machine
Not really. Whatever you're more comfortable with will be fine.

Things to consider:

it's possible to play early on X1 via EA Access (pay service)

A Good PC will always crush the performance of either console.

PS4 has the largest player base by far

X1 is cheaper currently

Xbox live has much better track record than ps online as far as stability

I think PS4 will be getting some dlc early or exclusively

Looks like I'm gonna need an Xbox One now...

Go ps4. It's a much better machine

I've heard that, and I kind of like the PS style controller layout better, but I already own a couple cool Xbox 360 games (Skyrim, Mass Effect, Fallout) so the backward compatability is nice, and have 1 or 2 friends that own Xbox one now.

I use to love the 360 up until Ms tried to pull a fast one and make second hand games obsolete.

Nothing like blind fanboyism and Internet rage.

Sony is the company that last gen told you to get a second job to get their system. Who cares? They're both billion+ dollar multinational corporations who only really care about money in the end.

Personally, I've gone all digital this generation, so always online and screwing GameStop over never bothered me. I'm always online anyway and I can't resell my games. It's too bad this faux outrage cost me family sharing, but oh well. I like the Xbox controller better, I honestly can't tell the difference between 900p and 1080p visually. Xbox live is a better network, so of the two consoles I own I prefer my X1 over my ps4. So that's where I buy 3rd party games.

I really hope Sony gets around to releasing a 2nd game worth playing on their system, aside from bloodborne I've felt pretty annoyed with that purchase.

Oh, ditch MS for Apple, because they are so consumer focused. Especially how they charge you twice as much for the same hardware

ME3 was far and away my favorite of the series (which is my favorite series of games to date). The ending is almost inconsequential to me compared to the heart wrenching character moments I had along the way. My choices did matter and cost me some of my favorite characters in the game to do what I thought had to be done for the Galaxy.

As far as the ending, I loved the indoctrination theory so much, that I was disappointed when they fixed the actual ending.

Also, that multiplayer was far better than it had any right to be.

What this stuff about "always online" and you can't sell your games? Is there no offline game play or something? Can you no longer sell your old games and buy pre-owned ones? Also what the deal with Xbox Live vs Xbox Live Gold?

BTW: With apple you'll be paying twice as much for the same or worse hardware (well older really), but for me, and many people I know, it's well worth it for the operating system for everything other than gaming. Although I'll admit I haven't checked out Windows 10 yet, so maybe I'm in for a surprise, but I doubt it.

Windows 10 Haas actually been getting positive reviews people are saying direct x 12 will be a big improvement and cross platform with Xbox is a bit glitchy now but it's looking good.

None of that always online stuff exists or probably ever will exist on the X1. It was originally the announced plan, but didn't go over well. Don't worry about it.

It really comes down to personal choice. Go to a GameStop and get your hands on the controllers. They are going to effect you more than a couple p more resolution (not that that will even remain the same. Go look at year 1 360 compared to year 10 360 games). Kinect is gone, the new head of Xbox is also game focused like ps4. Look at announced exclusives and pick which you like more.

The rest is just fanboy nonsense. Seriously, the machines are so hilariously identical you'd think they were designed by the same people

For an operating system I'm mostly concerned with the UI, search function, task/menu bar customization, system preference organization. So far OSX wins by a landslide for my needs and preferance, although I'm using snow leopard and thats like 5 years old, I don't know about recent versions, and I wouldn't be surprised if they screwed it up, since I'm not very impressed with ios. Overall system power isn't any issue these days for my needs, any decent computer can handle that.

Xbox imo is garbage along with Ms

Edit

What did Microsoft say when people were upset who didn't have high speed Internet and we're concerned about the always being online?

"we have something for them called the Xbox 360"

Real smooth ms.

Bloodborne is a really good game, it's to bad there isn't anything comparable on Xbox One.

Again I just want to point out I use to be all about the Xbox 360.

Fanboyism are those who defend a company that tries to take their consumer for every penny they got.

I know many people who have macs. Funny thing is they never seem to have problems that I've had and so many others with their window machine.

I'd advise anyone to stay clear from Xbox, not because of fanboyism, but I truly hate that company.

Just like I hate Facebook and never created an account.

But numbers don't lie, and if I had to tell someone ps4 or Xbox, obviously ps4 is the better choice. If gaming is your thing.

If you want something with gimmicks (kinect) and wants to work it's way into your media, and you don't care about quality visuals then go Xbox

After checking out both websites it seems the two are pretty similar, at least for my needs and budget. I do like Xbox's backward compatibility but so far it only includes 2 games I own, so that's not too impressive. I am a bit concerned about Sony's security issues, have hacker gained access to customers' credit card info due to this?

Also you've mentioned the Xbox being for of a media center than the PS4, how so? They can both play DVDs and seem to have the same entertainment apps, the only difference I'm seeing it TV/Cable/DVR features, but I don't use TV/Cable so I don't care about that. Are there any other media advantages to the Xbox?

As for you getting a Macbook, I can't say anything about the recent developments, but I've had mine since 2006 and I've never had any problems with it that weren't a result of my recklessness. A couple years when the CD/DVD drive started to crap out, but this was after burning dozens of CDs demos for my band, and DVDs for a friend's sideshow troupe all at once. I doubt I would've had the issue if I'd used it normally. Also It started having serious trouble with streaming video and video games, to the point that it just shuts off, but I think that's due to me overheating it repeatably a few years ago when I was playing WoW & CO for like 4-12 hours a day in a 90-100 degree apartment without air conditioning. So don't do that, lol. Basically, don't abuse it and it'll last a long time.

Backwards compatibility will continue to expand as it's not technical that they can't be played, it just comes to publisher consent. So if that is an important point for you it's something to consider.

There are minor differences in TV apps, but the pass through and DVR is the only real difference, it is kind of fun. I use my Kinect for almost nothing but do like that it turns on and off my whole entertainment center. It's a really expensive convenience I guess.

Sony was hacked, user info was stolen (pretty sure this included credit cards) and they were offline for more than a month a few years ago. They also waited most of that time to even tell you they were hacked so I guess the perpetrators could do something with your cards first? I don't know, it was stupid as hell. Their network is just really behind MS, which isn't surprising. MS has been in that industry much longer.

Xbox live and Xbox live gold are the same thing. Gold is just the name of the membership. You will need this to play online multiplayer games on Xbox. You will need PS+ to do so on PS4. Both services give you free games every month, which is nice. Also, all free 360 games as part of that service will be backwards compatible (usually 2 a month per platform ).

In response to the other fellow: Dark Souls 2 is on X1, and 3 will be, so they do have a similar game to bloodborne and the person you quoted about having "a system for that" is no longer at MS. Mattrick was the guy that pushed for the entertainment nonsense. He subsequently almost drove Zenga into the ground (which is really accidentally doing the lords work). Phil Spencer now runs the Xbox division and has a long history of being very gamer focused.

Honestly, both of the systems are now run by gamers for gamers. Between Hirai at Sony and Spencer at MS, we're in pretty good hands. If only Nintendo would pull its head out of its sphincter

I suggest get what interests you best.

Do some research read some reviews.

I have had the ps4 since day 1 and haven't had any issues with my credit card being stolen.

(I did just recently have my number stolen through ordering online through Walmart photo studio. Lol)

The Xbox can let you switch from Xbox to your TV without having to get up

I'm really excited to see VR coming to ps4 next year. It's no rift but eve valkyrie is coming for it which I can't wait to try

I hope it doesn't become a gimmicks.

I'd get the rift but I read you'll need a very high end pc, and I haven't kept up with pc gaming in years

I still think the ps4 is a better machine but obviously everyone has different opinions

As the saying goes. Opinions are like butt holes.

Everyone has one and they all stink lol

Edit

They may have changed their policy, but if you had Netflix and hulu you can't watch them on Xbox without subscribing to Xbox live. Why? I don't know but another dumb move

I could watch Netflix through my ps4 without having to pay for plus if I chose not to do so

Some games on ps4 do not require ps plus to play.

DC universe is one, and maybe planetside 2

Which is a freaking awesome game if you like games like battlefield.
