SW Battlefront: Fighter Squadron Combat Trailer

Dang it, do I upgrade my PC just for this game to make it look sweet, or just get it on PS4? Arg (first world problems).

PC = Better controls, PS4 = cheaper (probably). Gotta weigh how much either one would benefit you overall!

Hey guys, just my two cents. I played in the alpha earlier in the summer. It was fun, but the "feel" of flying was a little wonky. I felt that the Tie needed to be a bit more maneuverable, and the x-wing needed to be a bit more durable. Now, this was an alpha, so I probably didn't get the full on experience, and things might change before release, but I feel the fighters needed a bit of work. The collision detection was pretty crappy, as a couple times I crashed into the dirt even though it looked like I was 50 feet up. This new game mode was also not in the alpha, so I can't attest to anything about it, what I was flying on was walker assault. It featured the tie fighter, x-wing, and snow speeder. I flew all 3 and had the best experience in the snow speeder actually. The game as a whole unit is going to be a hit, but I worry about the secondary game modes feeling "tacked on".

Dat K-Turn right at the beginning!

Yeah.... about that.

Red Leader: "...Red Squadron, stay in attack formation..."

*RED FIFTEEN IMMEDIATELY DOES A K-TURN*

Red Leader: "....yeah, thanks Red Fifteen. You're a great help."

Red 15?

I thought squadrons were 12 members...

I do like the graphics. I just wish it was less gamey and more simulation style like the old PC games felt.

Huh, I don't even like the graphics. VERY 'video game-y', sort of like the prequel movies on steroids. Too many sparks, everything too glossy, just...weirdly video-game-atic.

Also: WTF happened to the shuttle's wings? Flying them half-lowered like that jinxes your dice rolls, EVERYONE knows that!

Judging by the trailer this must be an entirely different game mode than what was shown in the alpha gameplay footage, yeah?

I was kind of hoping they'd handle it similar to BF4 where you could have troops on the ground, and then dogfights happening simultaneously in the air.

Regardless -- I am so freaking excited for this game. Between this and Fallout 4, I should just take the entire month of November off of work :P

Yes, this is a different game mode than what was in the alpha. In the alpha mode, walker assault, there were usually around 2 x-wings and 2 tie fighters on the map at any given time, and as the game progressed you quit getting the x-wing and started getting snow speeders. It felt very much like a battlefield game in respect to air units and ground units.

Looks great, but EA logo always brings bad feelings to me.

That seems to be the case sadly but I was referring to the game "Rogue Squadron".

After watching the trailer a few more times a thought crossed my mind that left me wondering if DICE has kept to canon by giving Rebel starfighters shields and Ties having none. Somehow I felt that it may entirely be possible that DICE may forgo that detail for the sake of gameplay balance. That would be suck if it were true.

Also tie fighters apparently have missiles according to igns post on it. Looks like they are going for balance vs canon.

Read the post on ign and they played the new mode at gamescom and said that the ties definitely are more maneuverable and the xwings slower but sturdier. So sounds like they may have fixed that. Not sure tho but that's what the post said on igns site about it.

Looks arcade-y. I'm still wishing for something more like a flight sim - like the old X-Wing games, but with up to date graphics.

It's looks good but I'm disappointed that it'll only be 10 players per side and rest filled in with bots.

Extremely disappointed actually.

Does look like it will be a laugh though which is the point of a game. Hopefully though they've sorted out the terrible ground detection of the TIE Fighters (can't comment on the rebel ships) but the TIEs were absolutely awful for hitting the ground when being nowhere near it in my experience.

Ok this game might have something good in it. I cant help but notice that the game mechanics are similar to TIE Fighters in that you must regulate engine power and weapon power. I hope the damage caused by ships like the TIE Interceptor and A-Wing in this video are not true to the mechanics as they are not true to the lore, unless they both had cannons on a low power setting.

Ok watching this just gave me goosebumps all over. I'm getting a strong Rogue Squadron vibe from it. I think this trailer just sold Battlefront to me. I just hope dog fighting is not as clunky in this as it was in Battlefield.

What do you guys think?

Never played call of duty or battle field, however I heard the controls are similar too Top Gun: Hardlocks controls, if so I will have a major advantage over anyone else playing this game sine thats all a play now days sim wise. First place nation wide every category.

Maverick has had a hard time engaging ever since goose died.

That is a shame actually considering in the Alpha the Walker Assault game was all players and it was a heck of a lot of fun.

I don't get how this is the alpha people say they are testing or playing at conventions, before E3 I called up EA support because I wanted to know if I preordered the Microsoft digital copy would the dlc work when I play the game with EA access a week before the other systems get the game. I was making suggestions fot awards for beta testers for SWBF and the rep told me it sounded like a good idea and that the "closed local beta testers were finishing up their tests."

Ether the terminology has changed since I last heard about the process of game making, they guy was lying, or this SWBF game has been recreated over and over agian because each version fails epic for some reason.

I just had fourteen orgasms. Woulda been fifteen but no B-Wing.

Pretty disappointing to be honest.

Since they are using the frostbite 2 Engine I figured we'd get the same amount of players in a game as battlefield

40 in walker assault. Not bad. Wish for 64.

I hope they have a conquest mode that'll be 64 players, but not going to get my hopes up.

As for this aspect of it, hate the idea of mainly flying against bots.

Just doesn't seem near as challenging.

It's too bad they couldn't have kept with (radical something or other same guys who did timesplitters)

They were working on this year's ago and in the Alpha build you could run around on the ground, jump in a tie, fly up into orbit and land in a star destroyer, all with no load screens, and battles taking place on the ground and in the air.

I hope they're is a game mode where you can still run around and the objective is to try to destroy the opponent capital ships. By either blowing it up with enough firepower from your ships, or by docking in it and blowing it up from the inside

(could do this in Battlefront 2)

Was pretty fun shooting xwings from the turrets in the star destroyer as well :)

I hope you can disable all of that background chatter... that would seriously drive me insane.

"Good shot!"

"Never tell me the odds!"

"We're pushing them back!"

Plz everybody just shut up I'm trying to shoot TIEs here

Probably have an option to turn down in game speech

That be about it I'd say

As much as I'm looking forward to Battlefront, a word of caution: air combat in Battlefield 3 & 4 was kind of terrible. Required a ridiculous amount of practice to become proficient, and in the meantime the skies were ruled by godly players who you would never be as good as, and who would shred your aircraft in a couple seconds flat. Now, maybe they're addressing both those problems in Battlefront...but maybe not.

Most of that isn't in game, it's added for the trailer

The Beauty of Battlefront is that there is only a small number of people from the Battlefield series on the dev team, which means we will be getting something unique and fresh. They want our experiences to be as immersive as they can possible make it.

Looks like I'm gonna need an Xbox One now...
