[Edit: Added the pic where my ships bumped themselves.]
Hello all,
I attended my third tournament this weekend and came in second so I was extremely happy with that result. The tournament can be found at List Juggler on the below link and I flew the Chewbacca build.
My list was:
Chewbacca + Opportunist + Millennium Falcon + C-3PO + Recon Specialist
Jan Ors + Squad Leader
Airen Cracken + Determination
The idea around the build is simple, Chewbacca dishes out one big hit per round with help from Jan and Airen.
I only took one picture and that was in Round 4 when all my ships were bumping themselves. I will see if I can edit this post and get it uploaded.
Round 1:
Since this was a small tournament with 10 players, the format was four rounds and then a final. I naturally got paired with my friend Simon with whom I had practiced a lot in general, and we had also practiced a lot against the same builds.
His knew the weaknesses of my build (not that hard to see really) and exploited that. In my opinion the builds are fairly balanced, but he got a good start where I hardly damaged his ships in the first two rounds of combat and he managed to kill Jan. At that point it looked like it would be an easy victory for him. The next round saw me shoot down the IG-88C while his IG-88B did not get a shot. Suddenly it looked much better for me. A few rounds later I managed to land on an asteroid just as we were engaging again and lost Airen, which again turned the tide in my friend favour. It did not help that he kept rolling 3-4 hit attacks and my dodges were failing me. Then on three consecutive turns my friend failed to see what I wanted to do so I got some free shots in while he tried to maneuver for a shot. On the last turn our ships started basically next to each other and he performed a Segnor-loop but just missed out on the firing arc and I was able to finish him off. At this point Chewbacca had one hull left.
Round 2:
This round was I played against a TIE swarm, who was run by a guy named Aron. I had played against swarms in practice and was not really worried about this game. The asteroids played a big part in this match as they were set up like a V with the open side pointing toward my opponent. He set up in one corner so I decided to set up in the opposite corner. I then started by moving fast forward so my first left turn was in round three almost at the point of the V in his bottom corner. Our first shots were fired in round three and my opponent managed only to fire with two of his TIEs. The TIE I fired at had only 1 hull left but I had not dared use both Opportunist and Jan since I knew the round after could be a bunch of bumps. Since I had Airen and Jan coming after Chewie I knew they could finish him off.
Aron tried to block Chewie but I made a hard 1-turn and managed to get my action. I was a bit lucky because my opponent flew Howlrunner a bit too close so I got off a 5-dice attack and ended him. I think three TIEs bit the dust in this round and my opponent had decided to attack Chewie first so even if he removed all shields it wasn't enough. I was a bit worried about flying too close to the edge of the board but it turned out not to be a problem and I finished off a TIE per round to win the game.
Round 3:
In this round I flew against a very old friend of mine (Roine), whom I had not seen for ages and have not played together with for almost 20 years. He played Whisper, Soontir and a Lambda with Darth.
I thought if I could kill the Lambda, that Soontir or Whisper would be possible to kill, but how wrong I was. Since I knew Roine was very good I should have played totally different, which I did in the finals against him. But this game started with me taking shots at the Lambda, which were successfull. Then when Soontir and Whisper closed in, Jan fell under their barrage. Airen was almost lost but two criticals were saved by two consecutive Pilot damage cards. Chewie flew in one direction while the Lambda flew in the other direction and Whisper and Soontir chased after Chewie. This left Airen to be able to chase after the Lambda (again a bad decision). I never managed to hit Soontir or Whisper but the only joy in this game was that Airen killed Darth before Chewie was gone.
My main mistake here was going after the Lambda first, the second mistake was not to follow with Airen for additional attacks on either Soontir or Whisper.
Round 4:
Here I flew against a Corran build with Biggs and two Z-95s. I had never played against such a build before but I knew who my first target would be an hoped I could finish him off with only one shot. I was very lucky in the first round of engagement as one I bumped Chewie on one of his Z95s and he flew Biggs onto an asteroid. That meant I was able to shoot with all my guys without him being able to shoot on more than two of mine. Biggs did not die that round but was toast the round after. Corran had stressed himself with PTL and flew in the opposite direction which helped me tremendously as I had only two Z95s to worry about. I picked them off one by one and in the end when Corran was ready to do battle again he met all three of my ships and got destroyed. During our game I heard that the winner here would be the person who would go to the final so after that first round of combat with Biggs on an asteroid I felt very sure I would win. If my opponent had not rushed into that round of combat things might have been different.

Final:
Again I meet Roine and here I had decided to forget the Lambda and go for Whisper or Soontir. When we engaged I managed to take two shields off Whisper and the round after I made my first big mistake. Instead of going for a green Maneuver with Jan I decided I didn't want the Lamdba to take pot shots on her. That means I lost out on one action and one additonal die with Chewie with was extremely bad.
Whisper positioned himself badly a couple of times and was unable to decloak but I never managed to use that to my advantage and both Jan and Airen perished fairly quickly, with me not able to do any more damage on Soontir or Whisper. In part, albeit a smaller part, the dice failed me. I kept taking Focus with my ships not to roll more than a few Focus results in the whole game. Rolling four dice and almost always getting 2 hits and to blanks is simply not good enough. On defense, almost always rolling a blank is also not good enough.
In the end I started taking the Evade action with Chewie so I knew I could evade at least two hits and the Lambda got too close so I started going after that again. The result point-wise was the same, with Darth again biting the dust but all my ships gone.
Roine won a well deserved victory and I got my first arcylic tokens.
