X-wing Companion is back!

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

Looks like it has been removed again.

Still there as far as my Google Play Store App is concerned.

Just checked a few seconds ago.

I'm in UK

Don't know if that makes any difference

This is super exciting to me. I love this app and it made me sad that it would be frozen at Wave 6 forever. I'm so glad it's getting updates again.

That's great news! This is THE app for X-wing. I use it all the time.

Unfortunately mine hasn't updated, and its not in the google play store. I assume that it is blocked in the USA?

I wish they (or anyone else with the updated apk file) would provide a dropbox download link for the updated app. :)

Now what deal was made to allow for the app to be updated, that is a good question.

How about some good old fashioned data mining?

I wonder why it asks for more permissions than it used too, like access to identity location and image files.

Really fail to see what this particular app needs to access my ID, Location and Media files for.

Gonna play it like Firefly1 until this changes.

First I was like Yeaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Finaly, this wonderful app is beeing continued.

Then, I noticed it likes to get access to Identity and location i was like WTF??????

For what purpose does an app like this, which is only about displaying things, need access to identity and location?

Is this a mistake or is this app now spyware?

Have'nt installed the latest version and i will refuse to update until the app comes identity and location access free.... again.. as it was before.

I still have tho original installed. is there a way I can update it? I don't see a way to do that within the app. I'm in the U.S.

You update it in Google Play. It's either set up to update automatically or you have to open it on your phone and select UPDATE.

X-wing Squads Designer had the same fate, but updates regularly through the application itself. For me it has replaced X-wing Companion entirely.

Yeah, Squads Designer has all the same features, and a bunch more. No offense to Companion, but why would I want a library tool when I could have a library AND and squad designer with the most important feature for those without unlimited funds and/or memory, collection control.

Because it's the best library tool ever!

You can pull up by ship. You can see dials and pilots and costs. You can go to look at card art. While there, you can drill down through the options that are listed to the sub section for all the various options. You can look at things by blister pack to see what's in it. You can go straight to sub section to view the options. It's got links to the latest FAQ. It's the best drill down library app for any game that I've ever used. Squad builders are just squad builders. This is where you sit around and think up crazy stuff.

I think maybe I wasn't clear, Squads Designer also has a library built in, separate from the builder, just for looking stuff up. You can look up by expansion or card type, you can also see dials and what not. If you want to argue that the layout is better in one or the other, maybe, I haven't used Companion in a while, but I don't remember it being so great that I had to use it over Squads Designer when I'm looking up a card.

I find X-Wing Squad Designer to be too slow, which is a bummer because I liked the design. I prefer X-Wing Squadron, which runs much more smoothly and is still getting updates.

I'll check that one out, but Squads Designer is the only app I've seen that has collection control, which is really nice. (Also it is still getting updates, but it's not on the play store anymore, just google it if interested).

Is x-wing companion or x-wing squad designer available on Google Play? I can't find eithrt right now.

I wish he would just have a direct download of the apk file on his website for those who cant access it in the US (or didnt download it when it was there).

Any news or insights on why this app needs access to location and identiy and if there is a chance that it becomes "clean" again?

I use squads designer for list building on my phone, but it hasn't updated with wave 7 yet, no matter how many times I push the update button in-app.. It also doesn't have the damage deck in the library which is something companion does have.

Best guess is to save stuff in the cloud(or disney is once again hopping aboard the selling of data bandwagon)... also not much point whether it's "clean" or not. If your connected to the internet, you can be tracked at any point. Whether an app ask for your location or not, your phone/computer still transfers data between itself and the router/access point, which goes outside to the internet.

Although maybe someone could download it in a public place (starbuck's, mcdonald's, work), and only use the app after you have turned the wi-fi off and see if it still works. If it does, great. if not, I would delete it.
