Painting my Rebel Fleet

By Viratin, in Star Wars: Armada

Alright guys, here's my first attempt at trying to paint/recolor one of my Armada ships. I started out with the CR90 because it's relatively easy, with rather pronounced body lines and whatnot.

I went over the entire model with a very light grey to get a base coat, then hit it with a black wash to darken up the crevices and dirty it up a bit. Then I went in and added the ship lines, added some metallic paint to various little details to help them stand out. Came back and cleaned up some mistakes at the very end and hit some of the larger panels with that light grey from the base coat in order to clean up a bit of the dirtying I'd done earlier.

Wow looks nice. Good to see the custom paint jobs showing up. X-Wing can't be the only customs out there ;). Look forward to seeing more.

Thank you! I want to do an orange and blue combination for my Nebulon-B next.

Hmm, the added metallic paint is a nice touch. I've always been worried about any reflective touch in Star Wars because aside from the Naboo stuff, I don't think I've seen anything that wasn't matte. I like it, as you said Viratin, it helps pick it out. That and yellow's great, the green accents add some too.

What is with new painters, being all good and stuff. Back in my day we were all awful :P Seriously though, great job and I'm looking forward to more from ya'. Orange and blue for a Nebulon-B, eh? Interesting, very interesting. I'll be watching closely and thanks for showing it off, mate!

I've been painting Warhammer 40,000 models for years now. It's a bit different, going from that sort of grimdark setting over into something like Star Wars which has a bit more of a comic-book styling. I'm experimenting with it as I go. Eventually I want to work on a Star Wars pirate fleet, but I need to get some more models and some different colors.

Seems like you had pretty good brush control, but the scale is still weird to get used to (I had that problem when I went from 40K to BFG, and I still had the same problem after transitioning to Armada). That and working with purely matte colours just feels weird. It's a good point, what colours are you thinking of?

I was actually planning on matching the color schemes used for the Scum and Villainy fighters in X-Wing. The muted greens and browns and greys and black.

It's times like these I regret not getting into the S&V thing, I was waiting for the Kh... khiz... kir, oh bloody 'ell, the larval form of the incredibly awesome Vaksai.

Muted browns and greens might be interesting, I think only Cruiser has done something like that to my knowledge. So it would be interesting to see a new take on it too.
