It's almost a shame that FFG has decided to never make a ship bellow 12 points. I love the idea of a base ship that has NOTHING but hard points. You want offense? Buy it. Want Shields? Buy it. Would be fun. Might disrupt the game if it was too customizable though.
1-Attack Die ships?
Do you think we will ever see another ship with 1 Attack die? I know FFG has said something about regretting making the HWK have only 1 attack die... but do you think that could work for a ship in the future?
If you had to design a ship, and the only rule was that it had to have an attack value of 1, how woudl you approach it?
Missile Boat. 1 Attack. 4 Missiles slots. SLAM. Cannon slot for a tractor beam probably.
That said, it's weird that the SLAM action disabled ALL weapons instead of just primary weapons. Prevents you from using it the way it was in the game, which was just flying around and double speed, shooting missiles everywhere, because you didn't give a **** that you were eating up all your power from your sh*tty single laser.
Also, if they ever get around to old Clone Wars ships. A lot of them still have two laser cannons. But you can represent older Clone Wars tech by giving them a reduced attack values on ships like the V-Wing and the N-1.
Edited by DarthEnderXThe TIE / SR (Scout & Recon) could be a good candidate for this. It would basically just be Imperial equivalent of the HWK-290: slow, low attack and defense values, not very maneuverable, but carrying crew and systems for support purposes on the cheap.
1 Attack
2 Evade
2 Hull
2 Shield
Ability Bar: Target Lock, Boost, Focus
Upgrade Bar: 1 System, 1 Crew, Elite (for highest PS only)
Pilot Skills: 2, 3, 5, 7
Maybe have Captain Dagon Niriz as the 7 with an ability like "Choose one enemy ship within range 1-3. Force it to discard a Focus, Evade or Target Lock token."
I'm not sure what the point cost should be, but maybe from 9 up to 15 or so?

Tie Droid.
Heck, give the tie droid a cannon slot and no primary weapon.
The TIE / SR (Scout & Recon) could be a good candidate for this.
Ships like that are pretty much a requirement.
The only reason to have a ship with 1 attack is if you don't ever actually plan to use it's primary attack. Either because the ship comes with a ton of utility. Or because the ship relies on secondary weaponry.
I cannot see any 1 dice attack ships in the current x wing 100 point timed tournament play. The HWK has little to no role in the current game period. Its just not cost efficient even with some pilots having good abilities, the ship itself suffers because of poor turret options.
If the game expands to include mission objectives to win then I can see a ship with little or no attack and great secondary skills of some kind being used to accomplish those objectives.
It would have to be extremely cheap and customizable. If the hwk were what 13-14 base and then turreted you'd see it play. Heck, might even see it has a crew carrier now and again if they release more disruptive crew (or beneficial). Hwk was an attempt in that direction but didn't go far enough. You see the new abilities and how strong they have to be just to be playable.

Edit: A very possible future 1 attack die ship, IMO.
Edit: Actually, at 24 meters, I don't think this ship would fit a small base. The JM-5k is only 20.1 and its on a large base. I would think it would be comparable in width to the scout.
Edited by ShadoI would refute your statement that the HWK is a good support ship in current timed tournament play.
The HWK is fun in casual play I agree but at the moment it is not good in tournament play overall. The lack of attack dice absolutely kills its efficiency.

I'm talking more for casual play and for variety of ship funtions. Ya never know what future upgrades may bring. A Scout release could bring new upgrades that could bring up HWK's competitiveness.
I always thought the T-16 was atmospheric, not a spacecraft.
I have been waiting for this ships release, and think it would make a good support ship in the way as the HWK does. It could be designed at a low enough cost to make it a worthy, cheaper alternative support ship to the Lambda. And as a more maneuverable, more fragile, small based ship, it would play a fair bit differently than the Lambda. I can't see this ship not being released someday due to FFG's insistence on releasing TIE designed ships, and this one having Imperial written all over it, and that it would play completely different than every other TIE variant in the game so far.The TIE / SR (Scout & Recon) could be a good candidate for this. Yeah, I'm thinking it would be fun to mix one of these into a TIE swarm and stick Mara Jade or a Saboteur on it with Accuracy Corrector. Whee!
I agree about the size - it's 5 meters longer than a Y-Wing! I think it could be happily shrunk to size for the game, though - they did it for the HWK-290 which is supposed to be 29 meters long.
I could see a 1 Attack ship if it had some sort of effect attached to all of it's attacks. For instance, it had a built in Ion Cannon (When this attack hits, place an ion token on the defender) or something similar. Mauler Mithel's ability, or maybe even the special ability of Autoblasters would also be welcome.
Otherwise, with the way the game is structured, 1 attack die is near useless....I run a lot of HWK's, and while the occasional hit, or even crit, gets through the green dice, it's not enough to count on. It may as well be 0.
Well say what you want about 1 attack die ships we are starting to see quite a few 0 damage attacks. tractor Beams, the tracer missile and also ion bombs (i know bombs are not "attacks" but they function in the same manner in damaging opponent ships).
But yeah 1 attack dice is not something that is viable in this game much. It will need some other form of attack or support.
Seinar Fleet Systems TIE Mosquito
Attack: 1
Agility: 4
Hull: 1
Shield: 2
Focus, Evade, Cloak
Upgrade Bar: EPT (PS 5+)
Skipray could easily have 1 or even 0 primary.
All you really have to do is cost a ship accordingly and give it a (reusable) secondary option.
(let's be honest: given the TL requirements the Missile Boat would /not/ be OP in X-Wing if it had reusable missiles)

And they could sell it with a EPT or Modification which can also be used to fix the HWK.

I'd rather just have the TIE Vanguard.
I do like the idea of a cheap, unshielded TIE variant with the Cloak action though. Something for my Phantoms to actually lead into battle.

It would be an expensive ship, but fun and true to it's origin.
Definitely not a 1 attack die ship. IMHO
Edit: The Skipray title would state that the ship is equipped with a forward facing Ion Cannon as a primary, and a range 3, strength 3, laser cannon turret also as a primary that would come as a 0 cost upgrade card exclusive to the Skipray.

To be kept true to it's character, I think a Skipray would have forward facing Ion cannons AND a turret mounted twin laser cannon both as primary weapons. It's upgrade bar would contain both a missile and torpedo slot, 2 crew, a systems upgrade, and the 2 higher pilot skill unique ship cards (one of which would be Talon Karrde ) would each have an EPT. I think that it would be suitable if it also came with a Skipray title card that would allow it to make 2 attacks per round. And in my opinion, it's stat line would look something like...

Edit: Lets not forget, when this ship is crewed by the Empire, it's crewed by 4 highly trained people, 2 of which are gunners, a pilot, and another running state of the art sensor equipment, and the like. Plus it has a power output that often classifies it as a capital ship. All this inside of 25 little meters. It's a beast!
Edited by Shado^the cannon slot is basically there for Tractor Beam
1 of the crew is represented by the turret slot anyways, so there's no need for a second slot.
Basically, the Skipray DOES NOT have 3 forward-locked primary, unless you rule in the ion cannons somehow.
Also, primary ion actually makes it a really good control ship if you run Gunner crew, since you can fire the turret/cannon/torps/missiles and have a backup ion shot with multiple potential tokens/damage.
if any ship so far should be capable of making 2 attacks a round by default with 2 different weapons to choose as primary, it's this ship.
No. If any ship so far should be capable of making 2 attacks a round by default, it should be ANY of the ships with two turrets that are already in the game, but can't.

Edit: Also, the YT model transports are usually only equipped with a single turret out of the factory and probably have inferior targeting computers to Imperial military vessels. The YT models for the game are only equipped with 2 turrets because they represent the modified vessels of the Falcon and Outrider.
Edited by ShadoI don't think the Falcon's crew is customary for a ship of it's type. Why would you bother buying a ship like that if you didn't have the people to crew half of it's systems?
I think the Ghost in Rebels is probably a much better representation of the size of crew a ship like that would normally have.
