Do you think we will ever see another ship with 1 Attack die? I know FFG has said something about regretting making the HWK have only 1 attack die... but do you think that could work for a ship in the future?
If you had to design a ship, and the only rule was that it had to have an attack value of 1, how woudl you approach it?
Add 4 dice when targeting womp rats.
It would need to either have some sort of support function that was powerful enough to be able to make up for it's lack of attacking ability. So, something that really helped action economy on your other ships.
Or, it would need to be very cheap and have access to upgrades to give it a use beyond attacking with red dice. Maybe even make it 0 red dice. What about an escape pod with 0 red dice but has a crew slot? You could get a huge swarm all with Saboteurs!
Keep in mind there seems to be a trend now of 0 agility ships becoming a thing. and 1 agility ships are also becoming more common. A single attack die might not seem out of the question some day - I'm thinking a new mega-swarm.
Or how about this - since we have a deploy mechanic now. (Look at this option only as a mechanic, not thematically)
One ship with 2 attack dice - has the option of "Transforming" into three smaller pieces, similar to Voltron turning into Lions. The three smaller ships have only 1 attack die each, but when fully formed, the "Mother" ship would have 2 attack dice. Basically you could have the option of making 3 separate attacks at 1 die each, or making one larger attack with 2 dice. When attacking a Decimator for example, you might go with the 3 separate attacks, but if attacking an Interceptor you might want to go with the 2 dice attack, so you at least have a CHANCE of hitting.
Well, we've gotten a reasonable (Epic) ship with no attack dice at all, but I'm not sure a ship with no effective attack is practical at 100 points.
I don't see any 1 attack ships. I can think of uses for ships without an ability to attack with a primary at all, but I think 1 attack is right out.
If they ever did a small or large ship with a - primary weapon (so not even 0, since 0 would still let you perform attacks, just rolling 0 or 1 dice, the latter at R1), they'd have to do something like the GR-75 or Gozanti, giving it a weapon upgrade of some kind, or making it a super utility ship.

Perhaps a low level bomber that is essentially a weapons platform.
With the Extra Munitions upgrade, it would be reasonable and make the Primary weapon turreted to offset the low power with a 360 firing capability.
This would make ships a little wary to come within range 1.

Maybe a Y-8 Mining Vessel.
4 Crew, Turret, Heavy Hull and Shield, Possible Cannon and Bomb Upgrades.
Maybe similar to B-wing for Hull, Shield and movement dial.

I spent a lot of time in my Y-8 mining asteroids for crafting (actually, sold the raw mats to buy finished goods). It'd be another ship off my list from SWG if they added it so I'm all for it. It's a very very large ship though. Almost as tall as the model for the CR90 is long (L80m x W30m x H140m). It and the Sorosuub Yacht would be pushing large bases to their limits, but I'm holding onto hope for both. I'd expect both to have base attack in the range of 1.
Never say never, but because of other elements in the game, even FFG has stated that an attack value of 1 is unfair and a bad idea in this game. I think the original intent for the HWK was to be a support ship. By far, the most popular form of play in X-wing is the 100 point tournament build. This being the case, there just isn't enough room in 100 points for a ship that doesn't provide any offense.
Now, Epic format is a different story. I could see an epic ship that provided amazing boosts and bonuses for its fleet but had no offense itself.

I think 1 attack ships are the perfect fit for two types of attacks:
1. Supporting affects
For example:
Elite Upgrade - Cover Fire
At the end of a primary attack, if you rolled at least one (hit) or (crit) and all damage was avoided by the defender, the defender cannot attack with secondary weapons for the remainder of the round.
This would provide a situation where having only one attack is actually an advantage because the odds of success are higher the fewer dice you roll.
2. Crippling affects
For example:
Elite Upgrade - Precision Shot
1-attack ships only
If a primary attack hits, the defender discards one upgrade card of your choice.

Which already exists. The gr75 is relatively cheap for an epic ship and is still the only ship to have the jam action.
I just thought of an interesting mechanic for 1-attack ship swarms:
"After performing an attack, place 1 swarm token next to the defender."
and
"After you execute a maneuver that causes you to overlap another friendly swarm ship, you may immediately take a free action"
Swarm Tokens:
For each swarm token, the owner reduces their agility value by 1, to a minimum of zero. At the end of the round, remove all swarm tokens.

I could see them adding a repair ship that would have minimal if no attack. Or an escape pod, as mentioned previously. When the ship with the pod is blown up it would launch. You could put a crew card on it and move him to another ship to be used on that ship.
Probe droid: 0/4/2/0 10 points. When an enemy ship at range 1-3 is defending, the attacker may reroll blanks.
I think that if FFG ever releases any Ugly variants, they would be well suited to have an attack value of 1. Perhaps with options to upgrade the ships to represent characteristics of specific fighter types. I have some ideas that I think would make a cool Aces like box kit for S&V that would include a couple Ugly varients with Title cards and a new upgrade card category for kiting out the Uglies.
I don't know about a drydock vessel except for campaign games. Time frame is too short in regular play. I was thinking of a flying gun tube. Sort of like a Stalin's Organ for space or an ECM platform.
FFG wouldn't put out another HWK or crew like they have now. That wouldn't make much sense. I can see adding something for Epic or Cinematic play especially if they are going to expand that aspect into tournament play. I can see a drydock having range 1-2 weapons for use against small based ships only.
I think the 1 attack on the HWK was entirely reasonable - the HWK is an unarmed ship when in manufacturer's default configuration, the HWKs we would see being used by rebel and scum pilots would have at least a single laser or blaster canon (1 attack) but will generally prefer to fit a proper turret.
I'd be fine with more 1 attack ships, it keeps the points cost down on ships that then take secondary weapons. I'd also be more than okay with 0 attack ships that can only use secondary weapons to attack, although mechanically it would need to be rated as attack n/a, otherwise Expose and other such options could boost it to have an attack value.
Maybe a T-16 Skyhopper.
1 Attack, 3 Evade (based on being a high-performance airspeeder), 2 Hull, 0 Shield.
Crew + Cannon slot.
Could be a rebel, scum or empire ship. Expansion pack could come with pilot cards for each faction.
Include a modification card where you could replace the cannon with a Missle, Torpedo or Turret slot.
PS1 Pilot = 10 pts; PS3 = 12; PS5 = 14; PS7 = 16.
