Minion Group Questions

By obermeier, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello,

1. Assuming a group of three minions with soak 3 and 3 wounds each . The group has 9 wounds. If the group takes 10 damage, how many minions die?
(a) 7 damage after applying the soak, so two minions die (this is how I understand the minion rules), and the third takes 1 damage (the minion group has a global soak)
or (b) 7 damage after applying the soak, one minions is killed, and the second minion only takes 1 damage after applying his soak (each minion has it's own soak)

2. Do you have got some tips how narrate an attack vs a group of minions? For example a PC fires a shot that kills two minions at once. I tend to say, that the PC fires two shot from his handgun, maybe there are more ideas.

I would suggest using the search bar at the very top of the page for the keyword “minion” or maybe “minion” and “soak”.

This question has definitely been answered before.

I don't think it can hurt to answer again, since it's quick and easy, but maybe have a mod close it afterward?

1) You're right with the first. The whole group shares a health and a soak pool. The rules as stated have it so you have to surpass the health of the minions to kill them. So it would take four damage to knock out one minion, or seven to knock out two. Each death will also reduce their shared skill pools by one.

2) Combat rounds are meant to be abstracted, so each character's action can be more than just them firing a single shot. The hero could fire a volley of shots that strike two of the storm troopers, he could have hit an explosive barrel and they get caught in the blast, or he could have gotten a lucky shot and detonated one of their grenades. I'd say it's your prerogative to even have it so the minions just lose their nerve and surrender. For minions, strain and damage aren't separate things, so I think it's fair to rreat them being disabled as anything from conscious but non-threatening to unconscious to dead.

Ahh, my young Padawan. Doing so teaches the younglings to not bother to look things up before asking obvious questions. Sometimes it is better not to give the answer straight away, but to instead encourage them to learn how to look up the answers for themselves.

In addition, the moderators are very, very rarely seen in these parts. We are mostly on our own, unless things get much too ugly, and too many reports get filed, etc….

We cannot count on a mod being available in any kind of reasonable timeframe to close threads because they were started by questions that are frequently asked and for which the answer could have been easily looked up.

I was not sure about the rule question, maybe I missed an errata, so thanks for the answer.

I really like these interpretations.
