Maps: Ships, buildings and etc.

By Arc 724, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I was wondering if anyone had a list or anything of the sort for 1"1 grids of Sci-fi buildings, space ships, etc.

Even more specifically would be ones converted over from mission maps of the AoR, EotE and FaD?

I have been looking all over and have found a few (only a few) and thought it was time to cast the net out to you fine people. :)

Please and thank you!

Have you checked out the “Maps of Mastery” page at http://www.mapsofmastery.com/ ?

Try using the search field at the very top of the page for keywords like “maps”, and/or see the Compiled Resources list at https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/85616-compiled-resources-list/

Thank you both. I have searched "maps" many time and not come up with what I am looking for. I have the worst luck finding things in a search bar. But I have just tried "gridded" and got some positive results.

If anyone knows some direct links with what I'm looking for I would be very grateful.

I can't remember if it was gridded but FASA's Sprawl Sites for Shadowrun could be useful.. PLUS... PLOT HOOKS IIRC!!!! Thank The Maker :D

Again thanks! These resources have been most helpful.

THIS ONE IS AMAZING! Some of the links are broken in the other list given here and this is the original! Really nice!

I plan on buying that space station from Maps of Mastery. I'm kicking myself for not jumping into their KS.

If you've got some money (I currently don't), you could always try your hand at making some yourself with the Campaign Cartographer 3 and it's addon Cosmographer 3.

It lets you build ship floorplans with beautiful detail.

And if you've really got the funds, you could buy all kinds of addons to custom tailor your own maps.

by the way I would recomend against having the grib for the FFG star wars. They cause people to resrtict their thinking.

A number of typos there, but what I think he was warning you about is that using a grid on your map will cause your players to restrict themselves to thinking that one square is Short range, two squares is Medium range, etc….

I believe that his point is that FFG’s Star Wars Role Playing Game is much more narrative than that, and if you are going to use maps, they should be considered a general guideline and without grids. If you look at the X-Wing battlemaps, you will note that there are no grids on them.

So, don’t create a box for yourself and your players that will tend to force you to think inside of the box. If you don’t create a box for yourself in the first place, then you don’t have to worry about trying to think outside of the box.

X-Wing battlemaps don't have grids so that people can't easily do calculations. There is no fudgery in the system though. The range bands are precise and you have templates to measure them (and people take great pains to do so). It is just against the rules to pre-measure.

The intent is correct though. I still like using miniatures, but I love the abstract way the rules work for range and how much more cinematic the flavor becomes by removing the grids.

To each their own, and no one way is the right way, except for mine. :P

in Saga you pretty much HAD to have their minis and maps to play the game, even though the mini rules were completely different! In the old WEG, you could take your RPG Hero, do an easy and quick conversion and use them in big mini battles! I always thought that was cool!

For me, I have really gotten away from the minis and printed maps. I do use a white board, to draw out quick maps and stuff, but I have found that once minis come out, the combat really slows down, and becomes a lot more tactical. Mind you, that is great if that is what you and the group are wanting, but I am wanting a fast paced, action movie feel, with cool things going on, people shouting at each other, and things going BOOM! I could never feel that way with minis. It was all about the two-meter step and AOOs. Yeah, fun times! (that is typed in monotone) Again, if you enjoy that, great, I am very happy for you. I am not knocking this and saying it is bad! Just not for me and my Edge game. Here are a couple of links you may find interesting though. If you want to get more crafty, these can help make for an awesome game. I would still love to have some cool big battles with plenty of on the table props. I am just super lazy, and these require effort I don't have...

These are not maps! These are better!

I do have some pictures of some of my Hirsts Arts stuff on here somewhere. I may search for it and link it here.

But yeah, Maps of Mastery is a good place to go too.

Occasionally we use a map. Mostly we use a whiteboard. Primarily we use the minis to keep track of rough locations and how many are left and it helps me know which target people are aiming at. Not a big deal usually and we slap it in pretty fast and loose. We can also dot the ones that have already gone and just keep an initiative order. We don't even write damage on the board anymore, which was a big change for some of our group, but I did it to help facilitate transitions to minions as groups and not individuals and it is working fairly well.

Try the adventurer's atlas at

FPMMAPS.com

He did some of the old wotc sw minis maps. You can also get old maps at minis market, noble knight and a few other sites.

They're starred. There are no grid lines, just little stars on the maps to denote where the center of the "box" would be. I put box in quotes because the stars would work out to being hexes rather than squares.

But you're right. They're really nice maps and very gritty. Perfect for deep levels of Coruscant if SW-TOR is a guide.
