Get your evade and have a mountain of focus, steal evades or focus and attack hard.

Basically I just want to use that decloak to,close the gap faster

A problem i see with hwk is that range bubble, which some ships can easily avoid

I don't know if it is not just what Palob needed to push him to competitive level definitively. I mean he already regularly does make top spots. He definitely is top 3 of Scum lists at the moment already behind IGs and together with Warthog Y-Wings.

I think this is more than a fun build. Prone to failure... okay, but in a game where we roll dice all the time 2 points spend on a thing that works 3/4 of the time and gives a pretty expensive turret ship the chance to get better defense AND reposition very efficiently? That's really awesome in my book!

I don't think it was in any danger of making anything OP. With no ACD it costs an action and an attack to use it. Leaving the random chance to decloak would have been enough of a check.

I was excited about it until I realized that when it crapped out you lost it. IT would have made N'Dru an annoying little flanker for 23 points..

Great minds think alike! I totally wanted to put a cloaking device on N'Dru (and I still might for fun!) until I realized how fluky it is.

Well honestly i would run him without the Stygium for 21 points. That's a Rookie Pilot, just Way better as long as you only flank with him!

Cloak + Autothrusters + Lone Wolf seems like a lot of fun.

However, the ships that I think that will benefit most from it? HWKs.

They're the ones that have the least to lose from not having their attacks, and they have insane pilot abilities you want to protect, and have a need for the mobility-boost from Decloak to boot.

Does anything that can take it have a bomb slot?

I think he was saying that it would have been enough of a check on the card's power if you didn't discard it on a failed roll, but were just forced to decloak.

I think that needing to discard the Cloak Device when you roll an eyeball is too conservative and will probably cause this upgrade to get very little usage. Just the 25% chance of having the cloak fail and having to commit to the decloak before your opponent sets their dials is enough to keep this upgrade from getting out of hand. Without ACD, even a reliable cloak like the Phantom has doesn't really create a problem.

That's the curious bit: Without ACD, Cloak is actually a balanced mechanic. High-detriment for High-reward.

It should be noted that by being conservative with it it allows them to play it safe while still having the option to add a card Mayer that buffs it.

In FFGs release model it is a lot easier to buff an ability than it is to nerf it.

Having it on Serissu could have been fun. Just keep cloaked all the time for the extra green and everyone else taking advantage of the reroll. Oh well.

Imo, this thing could've possibly had cobra survive in a meta where you need to have soonts/corran level defenses to last at all, and stygiim could've helped bridge that gap a littlem it still does, only it can also **** you over with a worthless mod because idk why

As is, it's going on high-impact ships that can take care of themselves, such as guru & xizor and palob (orientate DAT ability)

Not necessarily a failure as more of a forced de-cloak. The decloak doesn't happen until the end of the round after combat so you would have had your extra 2 defense dice for the entire round you were cloaked. Also you have the option to perform a decloaking maneuver which you would have done at the very start of the first turn anyways (thanks to the new decloaking rules) so you don't lose much if you were planning on decloaking as far as maneuvers go. Only the surprise in the planning phase is what you may have missed out, still significant which is why the Sigma squadron pilot still and is supposed has to have the superior cloak but the illicit cloak isn't that bad with the focus result. You still get all the defensive and maneuvering option of the cloaking tokens. Also you could just discard it without having to perform such maneuver.

Sorry confused. Modification illicit? Are you talking about a scum only modification or an illicit that discards? Well they already have 2 (now 3) illicit upgrades that require you to discard them when you use them.

While i agree that it would not have been broken to give the player the possibility to either decloak normally and discard the card, or to just discard the cloak token, even being forced to discard the whole card either way makes it too interesting on some ships to just pass over it. Talonbane, Guri, and most Scum HWK pilots should be interesting ships to slap it on.

Nobody forces you to use the **** thing all the time. If you pull it off 1-2 times in a crucial moment during the game it's already a great asset.

I think this is a good point. In a single 3 attack dice vs 4 defense dice attack, both ships focused, the odds of at least 1 hit getting through are about 27%. Now, obviously there's more to it than that: you can combo Stealth Device with other defensive upgrades like PTL and Autothrusters to increase its longevity. But I still think it's worth pointing out that the inherent riskiness of Cloaking Device is comparable to that of Stealth Device.

cloaking is not a trivial choice to make when it voids your attack (so, outside of ACD), it requires set-up and good foresight

it could have been a great tactical asset and added a nice level of depth to the ships that could take it, without being muddled by dice ******* you over every now and again.

hopefully ffg fixes that in the long stretch between now and wave 8's release. It's not a huge deal, mind, it's just a minor grievance about a small but entirely unnecessary bit of game design that will prevent us from reliably seeing some very cool combinations on the table.

But if you can't attack while cloaked, it really, really sucks . . . BIG TIME. I mean, 2 points, for what? A chance to not get hit? Where is your attack back? Sorry, you can't. I really don't think I would use this, it is only good if you are running away.

It is a panic button to save you, a one shot to save for THE turn. Not the foundation of a build.

This is to keep it in line with other illicit upgrades.
