Nexu, Wampas, and what else?

By Rogue Dakotan, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Terentateks are nominally trainable; but they would be pretty out of place in most missions.

(...like all the other creatures?)

Are they still around in Civil War era? I thought I finished off what was left from the purge in KotoR!

We have to have Salacious, along with Jabba, Bib, Malakili and obviously the Rancor.

Why would wamprats be useless, whoever said that? I know they're not much more than two meters, but they could still have uses.

There's no way they do not include a Rancor at some point, the size really isnt an issue. They can make it work on a 6x2 base if they want. It is in the OT and very iconic.

I did too! But apparently the mention of Yoda and Dooku killing one is canon. Wookipedia 'Legends' explain that many of them hibernate when the dark side is weak, and re-emerge when it gets stronger (and notes the rise of Palpatine as such a time). So the Jedi thought they had killed them all in KOTOR, but they apparently repopulate after such purges.

There are heaps of terentatek in TOR (the hunt failed), also they're creations of Sith alchemy and hence could theoretically be resurrected.

I would like to see

Sandtroopers on dewbacks

Echo base troopers on tauntauns

I'd think a rancor is definitely an inevitability, but there are some Legends creatures like vornskrs that could be pretty sweet.

My short list would be:

  • Acklays (PT)*
  • Gundarks (EU)
  • Rancors (OT)

A slightly longer list would include:

  • Reeks (PT)
  • Dewbacks (OT-SE)
  • Tauntauns (OT)

*Parentheticals are where the creatures are actually SEEN, not just mentioned.

Creatures I would love to see added:

Sleen (EP5, juvenile) (EU, TOR, Adult)

Varacytl (EP3, EU, TOR)

Dianoga (EP4) (Hells yes! Could have two models, one that is just an eyestalk, and a second that is the whole thing....with special movement rules)

Mynock (EP5) (Always chewing on the power cables)

Gizka (KOTOR) Cause it would be fun. Star wars version of tribbles, except not furry.

Jawa (Not creatures, but dammit we need jawas!!!!)

Neebray (CW)

Nerf

Womp Rat (I use to bullseye these with my t-16 back home....)

Fyrnock (Rebels)

Massiffs (E3, CW)

Vornskrs (legends) would be nice too.

I'm not a fan of mounted miniatures tbh. This game takes place inside buildings mostly.

So, would terentatek have a special rule that compels them to target force users before everybody else (maybe knocking other figures out of their way as they move towards the force user)?

Not all creatures will come with models when they are introduced.

Similar to how sand people were first introduced as tokens in a mission.

Mynocks, for example, will probably be part of a mission. You'll have to clear them off the ship before the heroes can escape.

The sarlacc would be a tile and not a model.

While I don't know what these are they could have an ability that grants +1 attack to force users or something similar.

They're a genetically engineered monster created by the Sith to hunt Jedi. After The Great Hyperapace War the Jedi attempted to irradiate them but failed. This was in Old Republic time, four thousand years BBY.

Mind you, in KotoR they didn't actually go for the force user in particular, they'd go for the nearest party member as far as I could tell, but I think that's an implementation error rather than a plot point.

I want Ysalamiri. Sitting on Thrawn's shoulder.

Krayt Dragon

Tuskcats from expanded universe

Krayt dragon could easily work, just by using the size scale they did in descent.

Make it a Young Krayt Dragon like this:

Huh. I guess they could fit on the same sized base if they need to. :D

This was the picture I was thinking of, and it's gonna be a no brainer for a Big Box Expansion to have a Rancor. With the first one being Hoth, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Jabba's Palace as the next big box expansion, with a Rancor and maybe even a Hutt.

As for creatures in general, I'm not a big fan. The Nexus are distracting in the core set, probably because they're prequels. Wampas are okay, and I'm surprised there aren't TaunTauns in the next expansion, but anything other than the Rancor, I really *don't* want.

I think, the Tauntaun will be a Figure Pack. (Sincerly hope so.)

Next small box Bespin, next Big Box "Return to Tatooine"?

I expect the next to be a Cloud City (Twin Shadows sized), followed by a Jabba's Palace Big Box (Return to Hoth sized).

If they follow the Core, Twin Shadows and Return to Hoth model, I fully expect Jabba to be a Token in the box and a Villain Pack for the model.

As likely as the Rancor is, have we considered the fact that it's.... dead?

Luke killed it. Then they killed Jabba and a lot of his goons. If Return to Hoth and the main campaign are any evidence, the IA heroes seem to be doing things after the movie characters get done with it. So if a campaign takes us to Jabba's palace, the Rancor is already dead. And that was likely the only Rancor on Tatooine.

If we go to Endor however we could maybe see a Gorax ;) ;) ;)

is it really "The" Rancor?

Can't someone have "a" rancor?

(saying that, any Jabba's Palace box we get may be set pre RotJ... and "The" Rancor would still be alive...)

If we get "a" rancor, it'd probably be set somewhere other than tatooine.

If it's pre-rotj at Jabba's palace that would be cool. Then we can have Jabba's palace tiles and a sarlacc tile. But then anything the heroes do has to amount to nothing since Jabba is all fine when Luke and Co show up.

Witchriders of Dathomir?

That said, make the mission about something that isn't "Kill Jabba" or "Steal his very unique and not at all the same Rancor".

A Neutral Rancor mission could be very interesting, where it'll attack both imperials and rebels depending on rules put in place by mission.

Just imagine trying to scrabble to safety, hoping the Rancor fancies an Imperial Officer snack instead of your face...
