Nexu, Wampas, and what else?

By Rogue Dakotan, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

What other creatures might we get down the pipeline?

Now that we have the Wampa I can't really think of any creature from the OT that would work in this game.

Nexu is obviously from the prequels.

I'm thinking Gundarks seem like they could show up. We see them in The Clone Wars and they're mentioned in ESB.

What other creatures do you think could reasonably be in future expansions?

4 wampas +2 wookie warriors = furry fury

I don't consider Wookiees to be creatures.

but its furry

My short list would be:

  • Acklays (PT)*
  • Gundarks (EU)
  • Rancors (OT)

A slightly longer list would include:

  • Reeks (PT)
  • Dewbacks (OT-SE)
  • Tauntauns (OT)

*Parentheticals are where the creatures are actually SEEN, not just mentioned.

I think they announced Tauntaun riders for the Hoth expansion, right? I can't find an image or more information on that. Anyway, the first three listed make the most sense because they're big predators that would be useful without riders. The latter three would have riders.

I also think it would be f*cking baller to see a massive Krayt Dragon sculpt, but I doubt that'll happen since wouldn't be a very useful skirmish piece.

Edit: I'm trying to limit this to figures that would have the "Creature" quality (Can't interact). The latter three probably would have some modified "Mount" ability.

Rancors while awesome, I feel would be too big. They're bigger than AT-STs, and I can't see them making a base any larger than that without it being confined to a single special map tile (much like the AT-AT expansion for SW Miniatures was).

Gundarks are seen on screen in The Clone Wars.

I suppose Taun Tauns and Dewbacks seem perfect, but was thinking more along the lines of wild creatures rather than domesticated ones.

So, just out of curiosity, I looked up the height of both of these just now. Surprisingly, an AT-ST is actually some 12 feet taller than the rancor with the AT-ST coming in at 28 feet (8.6 m) and the rancor at 16.5 feet (5 m).

Huh. I guess they could fit on the same sized base if they need to. :D

Epic figure idea Rogue!! Though possibly a bit limited... ;)

The size of Rancours has varied quite a lot throughout the EU; I think it's iconic enough that they won't let minor size issues stop them (this doesn't help the AT-AT because those are major size issues).

Ewoks for certain, although they would likely be portrayed as sentient. I believe in Rancors. Salacious Crumb would be awesome as a familiar-type character who could steal command cards or some such nonsense. Mynochs would be interesting as having attack boosts on vehicles/droids. Womprats would be pretty useless. Possibly the ysalamiri from the Zahn trilogy, with force cancelling abilities.

Action: Target an adjacent figure. That figure's player loses one command card from the top of his or her deck.

Funny how people make things up..... AT-STs are not bigger than a Rancor. A Rancor is 5 meters tall and an AT-ST is 8.6 meters tall. We will certainly see Rancors.

Dianogas. They only deploy in water terrain features and can pull a model under (basically the model is removed from the board) if the dianoga is forced to release the abducted model, the Imperial player places the model in any square of the water terrain feature.

Considering that Rancor is gripping an AT-ST turret/cockpit with one freakin' hand, I'd say that Rancor is WAAAAAAAAAY bigger than an AT-ST. Remember we're seeing this from a foreshortened perspective. We can't tell how far back the Rancor is from that walker.

You could shorten that to: "Target an adjacent figure, the target figure suffers one strain" because what you've just described is strain. Trandoshans and IG-88 do that out to range 3 and get an attack for the same action.

Have it discard one from their hand and cause damage if there are no card to discard cause damage if you want to do something that isn't already part of other figures' abilities.

He's got giant fricken hands, He could be doing that to another rancor just as easily. They look close enough in size that they'd easily fit on the same base.

bwa-ha-ha....

.....and the poor and very sad Rancor Keeper....(it just cuts me up inside when I see him cry)....

Kowakian monkey lizards (Salacious Crumbs species) were more sentient than 'creature' however. Salacious Crumb was more of a jester than a pet, as Jabba would kill him if he didn't make him laugh atleast once a day. There was even a Dark Jedi Kowakian monkey lizard from one of the Dark Forces games.

Terentateks are nominally trainable; but they would be pretty out of place in most missions.

(...like all the other creatures?)

There was those cyborg dogs from Dark Empire that the empire used, though i don't think they were ever named. Also, it wasn't uncommon for the 'scum' faction of Star Wars to use trained creatures.

Another notable EU animal would be the Vornskrs. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Vornskr appearing both in the Thrawn Trilogy and Empire at War: Forces of Corruption.

Yep and he's in the LCG, in the deluxe expansion they released at Gencon.

Massifs would fit in nicely with the Tusken Raiders.
