TIE Advanced Tempest Squadron

By Magnus Grendel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Thinking about how to field Advanceds once the Raider arrives - inevitably many shennanigans will occur featuring Vader, Stele and Eclipse, as you can't go far wrong with a high PS, hard to hurt, small base fighter, but I was thinking about how to use the generics.

I've seen a few people suggesting Tempest Squadrons with Cluster Missiles and Accuracy Correctors (which looks scary as hell), but I was also wondering about the Sensor Jammer.

Zertik Strom

  • Intimidation

The idea is that if you're closing to close range for Proton Rockets, Governor Strom's ability pairs well, and the sensor jammer helps make an already tough little fighter even tougher, especially if people start using target-lock hungry ordnance once the K-wing and Punisher arrive.

.

I'm not sure Intimidation is that great but I'm not sure what else would help. Veteran Instincts, maybe, but that still only puts him at PS8.

The reason I think sensor jammer is just not as good as accuracy corrector is ac frees your actions completely, allowing an evade every turn, which I'm pretty sure will be significantly better than sensor jammer. Additionally, ac bumps the combat power of the ships since inevitably green dice will fail while your red dice keep chugging away.

If you are going to run Intimidation on Strom, Advanced Sensors is probably going to work much better than Sensor Jammer will. Advanced Sensors will either let you take your action before bumping a lower PS ship or allow more options in trying to put him in the way of a higher PS pilot.

Outside of some single Advanceds that are in your list for a specific reason (like Strom with AS and Intimidation), it's going to be really hard to beat either Accuracy Corrector or Advanced Targeting Computer. The problem that a 4 Advanced list is going to have is consistent damage output and not survivability.

Sensor Jammers also seem to me to be a better fit on higher PS pilots that have spent their action modifying an attack that has hopefully stripped their target of focus tokens before receiving return fire.
