RT in the Reach

By venkelos, in Rogue Trader

So, this is sort of for people who HAVE played Rogue Trader, but in the Jericho Reach, rather than the Koronus Expanse, but if you haven't, and still feel like answering with thoughts, please do.

You decide to play RT in the Jericho Reach, rather than the Koronus Expanse; how different did this turn out to be? The Reach is an active warzone. Were you cut off from the warp gate, and the Expanse/Calixis, beyond, or could you return to "civilization" for repairs, and to sell your loot? Without an established sector in the vicinity, who do you deal with, when the Crusade leaders can be seen as rather loyal to the Imperium, and possibly not into some of your activities, even the legal ones. You might not have much of an information network there, since your family hasn't been plying their trade for generations, there.

If you've done it, how did it go? "Who were your players", in the Reach? What did you tell your players about, to get them ready for this setting, as opposed to the more laid back Expanse?

I played a navigator in a house active in the Reach. Karlack and the forge world of Credence were big stopover points for us. As you might imagine, we got into a lot of scraps. One profitable endeavour was smashing a small tau fleet with our one ship and selling the salvage to variously the mechanicus and the black markets back in the iron collar.

If I were GMing it, I'd reward players who have their characters investigate. Talk with contacts, make inquiries, etc. The crusade and the inquisition keep information about the warzones controlled, but peers of the imperium such as rogue traders can learn much if they put a mind to it.

My Maisedron campaign is there now. Of course they just got out of the prison story arc

so their interaction with the Jericho reach hasnt started yet.

someday, the RT will be able to profiteer off the reach, whether in coin or glory....
