In store logistics of blind September 4th release

By Ayleron, in X-Wing

I bet Newt knows! Where is he when we need him?

The only thing Scum is really missing, other than a small based bomb platform, is a huge ship. They seem to have the models announced for everything else.

My money is on an Epic scum ship. Maybe they can "fix" the M3 in the same box.

What about the Y-wing and the FIrespray? Emon is arguably the best bomber in the game right now and "Genuis" makes a Y-wing bomber a total terror!

somebody already alluded to it that if it was already here in stock somebody would spill the beans as that minimum wage employee wont care.. so I believe it will be just an announcement and to be really cheesy just an announcement stating that wave 7 is now shipping along with the raider.. I just think they couldn't keep a secret of that proportion with out it getting leaked. alternatively it could be another announcement for something to ship around December to coincide with the movie.. I mean heck my LGS doesn't even have wave 7 for pre-order yet!!

Large scale retailers they have done enough of these in the past that they have systems in place to keep their non-caring minimum wage employees from spilling stuff.

I was talking to a good friend of mine who is an assistant manager at Walmart and he says he hasn't seen any Episode 7 toys come in yet. Although he admits he hasn't really been looking for them.

Firesprays are large base, and neither the firespray nor the Y-wing have the multiple platforms for bombs, missiles, and torpedoes that the Tie bomber/punisher or K-wing have. The small platform bomber for the Rebels came out last, and the scum have no foundation (ie a Hugh ship) for epic play. If I am FFG, I am more interested in providing ships for all versions of play than I am with niche ships.

I am not FFG though, so they will do whatever they want that jives with what Disney and Lucasfilms will allow.

you kind of illustrate my point though... Also I have NEVER witnessed NON-minimum wage types unload trucks at retailers. It just doesn't happen and the "manager" Shure isn't going to get his hands dirty unloading a hot truck just so he can keep a secret!! perhaps if FFG limited it to a few select places like MM or cool stuff they MIGHT be able to pull something like that off. but ultimately its about FFG making money so I doubt they go limited release!!

Their only protection is to get it there as late as possible while still guaranteeing the street date. I hope they go that way because it'll mean we can all get full spoils 2-3 days(because of truck schedules) before we decide whether or not to camp out for a midnight release.

got pics?? or just the shop owners word? lol I mean if that was the case why not offer them for sale as soon as gen-con ends? what would stockpiling them accomplish? granted if its to allow a central selected time to sell them so folks don't freak out that somebody in California got his or her plastic crack a few days earlier than some schlep in Florida!! but that going to happen anyway!!

CSG has posted a release date on Amazon for August 14th. Normally I don't put stock into anything an Amazon seller says about an X-wing release date, but Cool Stuff is my FLGS and they've never steered me wrong with a release date.

Or FLGS have told me my Raider will be with them 11th of August. They have been wrong before but not often.

Worlds. Announcement on Day 1 with all 3 ships available for purchase, 1 each per attendee. Shipping to the FLGS a week later, just in time for Black Friday (the Friday after Thanksgiving...the number 1 shopping day of the year) release date.

Timed perfect for the 18 December Premiere of Ep7.

Gives plenty of time for Wave 7 and Raider sales to peak and draw down, A nice bump for Christmas/year end sales, then time to settle out as Wave 8 approaches.

I can see the raider in September. Wave 7 not so much. I think that is another couple of months down the road for the rest of us to get out our wallets.

FLGS has confirmed August 13 for release of the raider. No date on Wave 7 yet. Maybe it is an attempt by FFG to stop profiteering. Which is.... okay but we are talking plastic toys here. Perhaps a global release date minimises unfair advantage at tournaments.... still they have 'tournament leagal' dates....

I don't think ffg need to have the logistics for such a launch. The infrastructure is totally there IF they managed to get their products into the big star wars thing at Wal-Mart and Toysrus. I feel the next release is definitely going to be a core set based upon the new movie, called x wing the force awakens. I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to get it into Wal-Mart.....

I'm expecting an announcement on September 4th to coincide with all the other releases, then an actual release sometime closer to the movie.

Since they've said Wave 8 will be out in December or January (ish), it would make sense for the Episode VII stuff to be released appreciably before that to allow for sufficient hype for each release.

There will be Episode VII stuff sometime in September. COUNT ON IT! All eyes on D23...

The retail distribution channel knows how to manage this. The suggestion that managers wouldn't "get their hands dirty" unloading product in dead wrong. I've worked in retail channels most of my adult life, and you can be entirely certain that major shipments like this get the attention of store management typically. Think back, if you're old enough, to the Harry Potter books. They were all shipped out to their major book stores and held for release. Unopened boxes of product, piled on skids with big "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL" printed right on the box. Sure, a few get released early, but the penalty of doing so typically results in that store/chain/channel getting shoved to the bottom of the next release. It's a dangerous game to play long term for a small short term gain.

He said 2-3 weeks for wave 7 Friday.

The penalties for breaking the street date are high. Here in Canada, we have one distrubuter, Lion Rampant Imports, for FFG nationwide. We also, currently, have a poor dollar. You break the street date and you are cut off, and have to go through other channels for all your FFG product. Which means higher cost and less profit and delays.

Now, i don't know if being sole distributer is still in effect, but if so, and knowing the owner, you don't kark around. The fines that would be levied from Lucasfilm and Disney will be high.

The distributer here will also ship things out as close as possible to the date of release.

Rumors I heard:

1. Wave 8 is NOT in development... it's at the printer.

2. Raider and Wave 7 will be available EVERYWHERE before Aug 15th.

3. Force Awakens surprises announced as Wave 7 is released and available 1st week of Sept.

My source told me exactly what was gonna be in Wave 8, two months ago; and said FFG wants it out for Christmas because Wave 9 is BIG and they want to announce '9' by the end of Feb2016.

My guess is we're getting new X-wings and TIE fighters for Sept. and a new core set in Wave 9... with Rogue One movie ships for Wave 10.... Huge ships and an Aces pack poppin up in between waves.

I tried to get info on Clone Wars ships/expansions...and the only answer I get is "perhaps".

I hate to use the word never, but if was was going to wager eating a hat over a new Core, I'd bet against the game every seeing such a thing.

Now, a Death Star set? Maybe. Then it wouldn't be a Core set... but an Epic set.
