Leia Organa

By Duciris, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Fascinating how we see the sculpt so differently, ibsh. I see nothing sexist, uncharasteristic, or passivity in that sculpt. I see a strong character with a big gun in a "got a problem with that?" pose. It reminds me of Leia.

That's just it though. She's posing. Nobody else is posing, the rest of the minis are in action positions. Why is she different?

It's a plastic toy...

couldn't really care less about it aside from making sure I can tell at a glance who it is when it's on the board.

Royal Guards are just standing around. Sorin has his hands behind his back.

Also, Jyn and Diala are in action poses so its not like every woman is 'posing'.

Those are pieces are all depicted fulfilling their role - the guards are guarding, Sorin is overseeing, Imperial Officers are ordering, they're all performing their roles, not posing. This suggests Leia's role is to look a certain way.

Yes, you could argue that that's what Leia genuinely looks like sometimes while performing her role in the conflict, and personally I don't think the Leia sculpt is that bad, just that I can totally see the problem that's bothering people. I think they've gone a *little* too posey.

Leia is a warrior-princess, emphasis on princess, but not in the derisive sense. Rather in the sense that she was literally raised as a member of the aristocracy and, as such, brings a certain air of regal haughtiness with her to the battlefield.

So it doesn't read to me as "posing," I'm seeing an aloof Leia strumming her fingers on her hip, impatiently waiting to see if those buffoons at the front are going to execute her orders properly or if she needs to get in there and handle it herself.

The leg looks a little awkward, but the sculpt works for me over all.

The figure I really have a problem with is the wampa... I mean, seriously. Are all wampas to be reduced to roaring insensibly and trying to grab every person who comes along? Surely, as a society we should be beyond the point of simply reducing wampas as a species to mindless brutes. Just because ONE wampa got upset when Luke's Tauntaun woke him up and chose to hang Luke upside down, we have to judge the whole SPECIES by those actions? I look forward to the "Wampa MBA Graduate" villain pack, so that we can all celebrate the accomplishments of those wampas who truly apply themselves.

I agree, I was a little surprised they made them nonsentient. Racists. AND they've made them all male!

Not sure about this thread. Weird.

But, did peeps notice her 2 deployment cards like R2-D2? Wonder what the campaigne card says.

OMG, have you guys seen Kayn Somos!? What is with that sculpt!? Pointing his gun uselessly in the air while he posses sexily, legs splayed for all the world to see. It's nothing like his character card where he is firing dynamically. This has to be the mos Mysandristic piece I've seen ever in the history of gaming. What gives?

That's nothing, have you seen R2-D2? They'd have been as well just giving us a toaster, because obviously that's what they were going for with that sculpt. Robots have feelings too!

Actually, Kayn, along with Gid and IO, demonstrates quite well part of my concern, which is why I don't entirely buy the "Leia's a commander character" thing.

Despite having no face or established personality, he has some dynamism; he looks like he's aware there's a battle going on around him and that he has a part in it, rather than just "What? A fight? Well I'm just gonna stand here and pout".

Insert standard two cents disclaimer here. And I immediately regret wading back into this =)

meine gott.....the goddess artemis is angry!

I opened a door for a woman. She thank me and commended my good manners.

Then.

I opened a door for a woman. She called me a sexist male chauvinist pig. Like a woman can't open a door herself you jerk!

Moral of the story.

Complainers going to complain.

I commend Fantasy Flight Games for their portrayal of women in the Star Wars lines that I've seen so far. In fact, as someone whose previous interest was Games Workshop 40K, I'm actually pleased to see women at all. Of all the images I've seen, faces and hands are the only naked flesh on display.

Now to Leia. Fully clothed in a snowsuit. Outrageous? No. The pose is odd, I'll concede, but certainly not in a way that is demeaning to women, Leia or Carrie Fisher.

Dear SJWs who think any depiction of a woman that offends you (or might offend someone else, if you're a typical white knight) is misogyny,

Thank you.

Every time you equate something completely normal and ordinary as hatred of women, every other normal human being in your point and shriek range is further numbed to the power of the word.

Just like every other -ophobia and -ism or -ist, NO ONE PAYS ANY ATTENTION ANY MORE.

P.S., Thanks for the game FFG, and the GREAT Leia sculpt!

Well, no. You don't pay attention. Your friends and fellow travelers don't pay attention. But then, you never did, so that's no change.

And hey, since we're thanking people: thanks for freaking out about Sarkeesian. Thanks for boosting that signal higher and farther than it ever would have gone on its own. Thanks for being so vile that virtually no neutral party, and precious few devs, could look at the response and think you might have a point. Because the thing is? Those videos mattered and continued to matter. Those videos and those arguments from Sarkeesian and others? If you looked at E3 this year, you might have noticed that things are changing. The argument is working, though certainly more slowly than I'd like. And you can pretend otherwise, if that makes you feel better. But pretending is all you'll be doing.

" Your friends and fellow travelers"

Nice "othering" attempt. Which fellow travelers? Ordinary human beings with natural reactions to a woman wearing a snowsuit? Or did you mean...

men in general?!

MISANDRY!

"And you can pretend otherwise, if that makes you feel better. But pretending is all you'll be doing."

You forgot to promise never to sleep with me.

You realize you're doing the same thing as the idiots who toss out "feminazi" whenever gender issues are raised in any way, here, right? Lumping all opposition in with the worst their side has to offer, no matter how fringe that element may actually be?
