Linking Published Adventures

By Lauguz, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hello Gamer Nation!

***WARNING: mild spoliers ahead***

I just started running an EotE game that includes two Force-Sensitive characters. One of the characters is very interested in tracking down information about Force-using traditions (Jedi, Sith, and others) in game and eventually would like to find a holocron and build his own lightsaber. Based on the descriptions of the adventures in the various products it sounds like I could use and link many of them. I already have the Beginner Box and have ordered the F&D Core, but before I put down money for the GM kit + Chronicles of the Gatekeeper I was hoping some folks could chime in on thoughts around whether the adventures all work together well and if there is an order that makes sense.

It sounds like there are so potential linking elements: the Beginner Box and "Lessons from the Past" in the Core both include an "old friend" NPC. In the Beginner Box + Lure of the Lost the characters gain access to a holocron, which seems like it could lead into Chronicles of the Gatekeeper.

What do people think? Any suggested order?

I have not yet seen the new core book, but I can say this. There is a weird relationship with lightsabers in the setting. Beginner box characters begin with them, while there are opportunities in at least two adventures to build them. With that, I would probably discourage using the pre-mades as written, and let them progress into getting lightsabers. Also according to what I think I know about lightsabers, the crystals used are almost exclusively from Ilum, while synthetic crystals are red. Which is why Sith - who had lost access to Ilum - only had red sabers.

Regardless of the above- I would suggest this order with modifications made in red .

Beginner Box

  • Mountaintop Rescue- Find your lost friend, which leads you to discover a temple which has been damaged.
  • Lure of the Lost- Restore the temple by collecting the other two holocrons.
    • During the adventure you get access to a teacher who can teach you how to build a lightsaber
    • Do not let them build a lightsaber, instead let them know they have found a teacher, and later they could if they get a crystal.

Beta

  • Lost Knowledge- You are searching for a lost force user temple (makes sense as a follow up to the last temple)
    • You get crystals which can be used to make a lightsaber. (for reasons in the adventure I would say these only make red sabers)

---I haven't gotten the following yet so I can't say anything about that.---

Core

  • ?

GM Screen

  • ?

Chronicles of the Gatekeeper

  • It seems like this would be a direct sequel to Lure of the Lost, as the Holocrons refer to themselves as "gatekeepers"

I will edit this post once I get them and can speak about them.

I think that may be a result of the intended purpose of each. I think the Beginner Box is meant to demo and get newer players going faster, and lightsabers are a big part of "Jedi satisfaction", and a quick payoff.

The Core Book and adventures are tailored more to a campaign, where players will tolerate a bit more of a slow burn to get / build their lightsabers. They'll be using custom PCs, vs. the pregens, I'd think.

I've been thinking about the options to link the adventure as well. The location from the Beginner Box might do well to follow after the adventure from the Core Book and GM Kit. The Core Book adventure provides a similar resource as that in the Box, but it's less ... stable.

I think the Box adventure would need some refit, but it would set up the PCs to do some investigation coming out of the Core Book and GM Kit to search out a location or temple that they could base from ... (the Box set resources).
