Guidance C?

By gamblertuba, in X-Wing

So Inquisitor's Tie comes with one copy of a new card. Punishing One gives you two copies. Looking at the spread from the announcement, you can see the following:

Gui...

C...

M...

"When atta...

[missile] sec...

may chang...

[boom] resu...

your prim...

?3?...

OK, so need some help.

Guidance

Chip

Modification

When attacking with a [t] or

[m] secondary weapon, you

may change one [e] result to a

result. blah blah blahby

your primary blah blah

"blahbity"

(torp, missile, eye, boom)

The spacing seems to work out ok for most of the lines. Not sure how much a difference font will make. Last three lines have me stumped. Last line sure looks like it starts with a quotation mark?

(News update is down, will post pic when it's back up)

edit changed camera to chip?

Chip* seems to be the consensus.

Chip* seems to be the consensus.

Makes more sense but letter following the "C" does not appear to have a tall straight line to be an "h". Grasping at straws.

Real question is what does it have to do with a primary weapon? And what is going on that last line?

My first thought is " When attacking [ ... ] result. You can't equip this upgrade if your primary weapon value is "3" or higher. "

That seems a little tight on space, but it fits with the fact that both ships have a primary weapon value of 2. Also, an upgrade that enhances ships that attack big once with a missile but otherwise are weak attackers seems like it would increase metagame diversity and be fun in general.

Other name options include "Guidance Chute" (fits the art) and "Guidance Chamber". I can't think of anything that isn't "Ch–" except for "Guidance Case".

Guidance computer?

I was guessing it was a mod that made your primary attack worse (-1, maybe) to give your ordnance boosted attacks. Sort of a cheap or free upgrade to give heavy ordnance carriers a boost. You take out some laser generators and put in some extra electronics. Problem is that option is pretty terrible on the ships it's packaged with, so I'm probably wrong.

Positively Electric's idea makes more sense than mine.

Computer is way too long for spacing. I thought camera at first. Will see if restricting if primary attack >3 fits.

My first thought is " When attacking [ ... ] result. You can't equip this upgrade if your primary weapon value is "3" or higher. "

I think your right. That at least makes sense in the context of the card.

Doesn't seem particularly good on a ship with only 1 ordnance slot, but on a bomber or punisher.... Hoo boy. Mini focus on all your ordnance and they are also adding more ways of getting TLs. Imagine redline with 6 ordnance and every one of them is guaranteed to have focus and TL for modification.

I assume it will be guidance core and not chip and that it will be free.

Sounds good to me. Will actually be the munitions fix we have been looking for. Pair with the tracer round and bingo. If this turns out to be correct, is the restriction really necessary? All it seems to do is preclude the poor X-wing from using its torps effectively. What 3-attack ships would be OP with this card?

Yeah, I suspect it will help with the need to have focus and target lock to have an effective Missile/Torpedo. Depending on the cost, it will be the fix that many were dreaming of in Wave 7.

it's actually a space rooster that they nail to the front of the missile to guide it via flapping its wings

unfortunately, it makes the upgrade's name a tad profane

Cluster missiles might be insane! Maybe Nera would be too strong?

maybe its Guitar Champ! ^_^

if it's *missile* then nera has nothing to do with it (unless also followed by torp)

3 dice innate restriction would be weird without reason. Maybe the upgrade also happens to work on primaries and is worded to specify missile and torp 2ndaries because:

yt-2400 + scyk (2-dice primaries) + HLCs

If we are right, and it is a mini focus for ordnance...

Redline with fire control system, guidance chip, extra munitions, plasma torpedo and 2 x cluster missiles?

Total of 20 dice of attacks, each one with at least a mini focus and TL, plus possibly 2 bonus shield damage.

Think that would scare fat Han or admiral Cheerios? (It had better, since it costs almost 50 points).

if it's a mini focus, it'll also make 5-dice homing missile Miranda pretty dang viable

The more we talk about it the more I am convinced that this is the ordnance fix we have been looking for and the more excited I am to see this one card from this wave to find out if we're right.

Here is a thought though. What if it doesn't change an eye result, but a blank to a boom?

Concussion Missiles were the strongest ordnance out the gate becuase of this. And it keeps the TL/Focus set up strong. Seems like an all around win for me.

Perhaps the additional text is about limiting it based on how many results you have rolled.

then it's strictly worse, between

*jonus

*redline

*homing missiles (nd other ordnance that lets you maintain TL)

we need the focus a lot more than blank --> hit

Totally stole my thunder. Was gonna say Guitar Chord.

I hate working late.

If they restrict this from helping the humble X-Wing, I have to assume that's because we're getting an X-Wing fix via a title and it would be OP to allow the X-Wing title to combine with the "Guidance Chimp" mod.

My next guess is that the X-Wing Title fix will be in an Ep VII box in order to goad all of us into buying it... Which I'll happily do!

Could be a Guinan Cape.... Wrong franchise.

I think restricting the X-wing from it might mean preventing something REALLY STUPID from happening with the decimator
