Wraith Assault Carrier (custom huge ship)

By Vitalis, in X-Wing

I have brought this idea up before, but I think a mechanic to spend energy to let you "produce" fighters would be a neat idea for a carrier. not that it would actually be manufacturing them, but the fluff part would be that it is carrying a lot of them and spends energy to launch them.

the card could take 2 cargo slots, or the cost could be built into the card you will make for your model.

something like

"expanded hangar bays"

2 cargo slots and 1 crew slot

cost 20 points?

once per turn, you may spend 3 energy to deploy 1 academy tie in your front arc at range 1 of this ship facing any direction you choose.

basically, you pay points to buy the ties at a discount. the upgrade does not pay for itself until the third tie is out the door, but if you keep this ship protected, it could crank out a tie every turn, though I am assuming a base energy of 4, so you run into energy constraints. I actually thought this up when the gozanti was being discussed, but that ship has sailed. really like the front hangar bay, bot that wild about the bridge, personally, but it's still cool overall.

I get your idea but two nopes:

1.Scale and fluff. This ship is a limit to what a carrier should even be, even a pocket one. The fluff behind this ship is that it brings up to 4-6 elite ties to the mission, provide support for them then extract them. And it would just look dumb if a model that in reality can pack up to those 6 fighter models, provide a stream of fresh ships to battle:D

2. Well in my guess in standard dogfight it would be op, just look how much can even single AP change in battle? Stream of fresh one till you kill a huge? Naaaah. I think that repair station for every tie save the Defender (it was hyperspace capable and it just does not fit into a hangar bay:D) is balanced.

This ship would be awesome in an epic campaign. In said campaign, if uniques die, they cannot be used again in future campaign battles. Uniques could dock with this ship and live to fight another day.

Where did you get the donor model? How much was it?

This is a really neat project.

Well im not focusing on rules at all now. But yea, like thats nice idea, something like lost in space even. Like it.

I have no idea. My buddy at work had this ISD lying around his desk, when i asked him where did he bought it he said: want it? Go ahead take it:)

Manufacture date was ancient, somewhere around 90 as i recall.

This is a really neat project.

Thanks!

UPDATE:

Litle card i have been thinking:

The nice thing about the Gozanti is, you will not have to put too much thought and play testing into docking fighters. Keep it up.

Hello again, long time no update from me, but the wraith is up and running. Model for now is finished, primed and ready for painting. No photos cause it looks like black hole (black glossy primer -.-).

But im almost done with the rulings! Here are some for you guys to rewiev:

So the new action symbol is Dock and goes by the rules:

Dock action is divided into 3 subactions for each ship it affects:

1. Any small ship that has moved with a speed not higher than 2 this turn and is within auxilary arc of fore Wraith section may be targeted with Dock action. That ship is taken off the game board and is considered docked within hangar.

2. Perform repairs on docked ship. Everytime docked ship would set up its dial you may instead:

-discard one facedown dmg card from it.

-turn one faceup dmg card on it facedown

-recover 2 shield tokens

3. Undock. Every time docked ship would set up its dial you may instead declare its undocking from wraith. When it would be its time to perform maneuver, place [2strait] template to Wraith front base and deploy undocking ship on the other end of it. Undocking ship may perform actions but may not attack this turn.

FAQ.

Does each step od Dock action require and action?

No, Wraith only need to declare Dock action to make a ship enter a hangar. Repair and undockin doesn't require action.

How many ships can be docked at once?

2 small ships.

Can the docked ship be affected in any way by the opponent?

Yes and no. The ships cannot be targeted of affected by enemy directly in any way. But the docked ships are affected by hangar critical damage cards.

What happenes to the docked ships if fore section of whole wraith becomes destroyed?

If only fore section becomes demolished, if there was only 1 ship docked roll an attack dice. On critical roll the ship is destroyed. On any other roll ship immediately undocks from wraith. If there were two ships docked, choose one of them. Perform actions described above for it. Second ships roll a dice on blank roll that ship undocks next round. On [eye],[hit],[crit] that ship is destroyed.

In case whole Wraith is destroyed, all ships docked within are destroyed as well.

What if undocking [2strait] would make a ship collide with another ship or obstacle?

Revert to normal collision rules from rulebook (treat this [2strait] as normal maneuver).

Changes made to cards after posting:
Combat refit makes [hardpoint] upgrade free.

Combat hangars are now 2 points down from 4

RAC is now 3 points down from 5

I'm not sure if this has been asked or answered already, but what are the dimensions of this awesome custom ship? Width, Length, height, etc.

Dog the rules design

Somehow i cannot find anything to measure it now, so here is comparison shot with raider its around. Height is rougly the same but Wraith got much higher bridge due to fact i wanted it to stand out like CIC/control tower should to provide info:

Sorry something is off with my phone camera thats why so blurry.

Sorry about that, 'dig' the rules. Not dog. I like the stuff you came up with for them. I wouldn't do repair though, recharge shield sure, but not repair. How many can you dock?

I wouldn't do repair though, recharge shield sure, but not repair.

I may let go or that repair and stick to shield and crits repair only BUT consider this:

-you pay almost 100 points for rather squishy ship with minimal firepower. It needs to pay for 100 points in some way.

-you need to take that ship out of game for 3 rounds (1 dock, at least 1 repair, 1 undock). Thats LONG time jsut for 1 damg card gone.

How many can you dock?

Its in the faq. read it. 2 ships at once.

Sorry bout that missed the FAQ

True if your taking three turns out, two with upgrade, that's not too bad. How about if at end of turn all docked ship's got back one shield, max half your starting rounded up? Maybe do that as a cargo upgrade? That gets you close to one hit point for each round your out of combat almost.

And now time to send out my Bargain Hunter friend with a new mission to find a model like this
