Who wants FFG to release naked models and bases with no cards or tokens? At a discounted price of course. I'm sure this has already been covered, but since I'm Johny Come Lately …
Unpainted Models please FFG
Nah
I'd certainly like them to sell bases and pegs separately although this has become much less of a concern as time has gone by and in actuality none have ever broken despite my fears and I've accumulated far more than I could ever hope to use. Would still happily buy a bag of spares though just in case.
I wouldn't buy them. Most of us who play x wing and not other miniatures do it for a few reasons. High on that list is not having to invest the time painting models. There is virtually no way I would ever even have started playing if I felt it required artistic ability.
Oh, no doubt would I ever want them to selling ONLY naked models! But for those of us with an interest, it'd be nice to purchase some blanks and let the paint fly.
Yes and no. I think most of them look great as-is, and they are easy enough to repaint, even if you don't strip them first. Some blanks would be fun, though.
I can't see this happening. They would have to make new packaging for them a different cost and convince retailers to increase the amount of shelf space for X-Wing stuff... For a product that would most likely not sell well.
Why spend $10 on something I can get for $15 that I have to paint. Especially when I can repaint the ones I have now without having to really do anything prep wise.
I love the paint jobs that they've put on these, it takes a lot of time and effort out of getting to enjoy the fantasy. They are the best paint jobs I've seen on affordable miniatures.
I agree with you VanorDM, this would have to be an option that FFG provides via online only. Vendors probably won't make space for it. And as for the price, if you put 2 or 3 ships (smaller ones) into a pack, with a little bit of spray paint, sell it for $10, you now have that TIE Fighter swarm that you always dreamed of muwahahaha.
Would be interesting. But people are already repainting everything as is. I understand that the benefit would be that they are at a reduced price. But you can get the full xpacs online for $10. You could soak 'em to strip the paint. Resell the cards on Ebay. You'd probably make money doing it that way.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm
I wonder if a unpainted model only option could be something worth their time, especially on a web store.
The issue I suppose is the interruption in the manufacturing process. That can be tricky depending on how the line is set up. I work for a manufacturing company, and all our lines are set up to start with parts at one end and a finished product at the other.
The same be true of the FFG models, so they'd have to come up with a method of interrupting the process.
I'm leaning towards the "nah" community. Existing ships are so easy to re-paint, and the lower cost would helplessly force me to exclusively buy un-painted ships, which would result in crappier looking ships across the board when I play.
3d print them unpainted then.
No thanks. The main reason I got into this game is the pre-painted detailed models.
If they were not painted I wouldn't be interested.
I absolutely DO NOT think they should replace the painted models with unpainted. I know painting minis isn't for everyone. But I think of the different chapters of Space Marines, Eldar, etc and I totally see that occurring with the huge number of squadrons that are out there in the SW universe. I'm sure it will result in completely ridiculous and horrible paint jobs at times but it can also be a cheaper alternative for building up a fleet. There would have to be an adjustment to the manufacturing process but I doubt it would be too terribly significant/costly. Perhaps FFG could run a trial with TIE Fighters and X-Wings in the upcoming wave 7 (probably too late) or wave 8. Two or three ships with bases and pegs per pack at the same price as a painted small with cards and tokens. If they wanted to save even more production cost, they could ship them disassembled. No paint, much less labor, no paper product and a slightly redesigned package distributed via online sales; I think all those might equal at least break-even if not profit.
As was mentioned it's not hard to paint the factory painted ones. And if they did offer non painted ones they would need a rule to prevent naked ships!! Also by the time you painted a naked ship it would wind up costing you more in the long run in paint and supplies and there is no guarantee that it would look better or even good.

Yes!!! NO NAKED SHIPS! hahaha. However, if you already have the paint and supplies then you're good.
I had a buddy in college who painted some WH40K miniatures and they were really bad. Can't say that mine are anything special but his made mine look like something in White Dwarf LOL.
I'm going to repaint one of my Y's soon. Does anyone strip the factory ones before they repaint? Also, does anyone have a link to some of the magnet mods? Thanks in advance.
I trimmed some excess paint off a couple of my models before repainting, but I've never found the need to strip one.
Yeah, no. If X-wing stuff was not already painted, then I wouldn't be as in-to the game as I am now. I've never painted before and while I may like doing it at some point, I don't have the time to do so now, what with school, just got 40 hours a week at work, and other obligations. Not saying that painting is off the board forever, but it's definitely not something I would have liked.
Likewise this is the reason why I wouldn't get into games like Warhammer 40k, because that requires time, effort, and money into painting, which I'm also not a very artistic person -- with the exception for writing stories.
I'd buy 40k if I wanted to paint... One of the better parts of the X-wing models is that I don't have to.

Amen! I doubt . . . rather, I know that I would not have gotten back into gaming much less SWXW if the models weren't painted already. Now that I am, I'd like a cheaper option. Like I said, I already have paints and supplies so while I'm not looking for a job I think I'll make a purple StarViper . . . JK hahaha
