Finally, a wave where I won't buy everything.

By zlynn22, in X-Wing

I haven't watched all the episodes and am personally on the fence on how good the series is. But in the second season opener doesn't Vader single handedly take out a squad of A wings, and destroy an epic ship? Hardly incompetent.

I didn't say he was I said he made the rest of them come of worse by comparison.

The opening fight of the episode the rebels don't lose a single ship but the empire which is composed of three goz and a full squadron of ties gets cained.

Then Vader single handed kills a squadron of a-wings and a carrier.

Vader is hardcore but he's one Sith Lord he can't control a star system single handed never mind a galaxy for that you need a competent military and in rebels he does not have that.

Yes it's a kids show but that's no excuse just look at avatars the last air bender, cartoons can have depth and teach morals without being so shallow.

Rebels has some great scenes, but it is mostly crap.

What say you? Anyone else share my "if it didn't exist when I discovered Star Wars, it doesn't exist" mentality?

The Empire Strikes Back didn't exist when discovered Star Wars, so no, I don't share your mentality. I'm not going to say I like everything thats come out since the 80's, but when I see something new that I do like, I get the same excitement as I did when I first saw AT-ATs and Tie Bombers and Boba Fett. But whatever, like what you like.

But I have two little boys (5 and 7 and the moment) and therefore I kind of grow up again, but this time with rebels and some old, weird stuff from a long forgotten past. ("Daddy, who is Han Solo?" Nope, they haven't watched the original trilogy yet, call me old-fashioned, but I don't think it's suitable for kids that young. And this way I can tell stories from a long time ago myself, hope they'll have a blast when finally watching the movies and recognizing all the stuff they already heard about).

So... you let them watch a show where more storm troopers and people die (visually not taking into account space combat) then in the first 3 movies combined? Even more so with action? It is ok cause its cartoons? Im so confused. That isn't old fashion, that's just confusing.

IV

- Vader choking people and breaking their necks

- Burn bodies of Luke's aunt and uncle

- Burning of slain Javas

- Destruction of an entire planet (so much for the body count)

- ...

V

- Overall very dark

- Luke decapitating Vader in a creepy cave only to discover his own face under the mask (after the head rolls over the ground). This freaked my out back then, and I was significantly older

- ...

VI

- Killing of little teddy bears (I cried!)

- Kamikaze A-Wing pilots sacrifice themselves

-...

And that's only the first things that come to my mind.

Sorry, yes, I think Rebels is significantly less violent and far better suited for children. Yes, they shoot, and yes, people get killed, but most of the time you don't see directly it or the troopers outlive even the biggest explosions (hello, A-Team).

Thus once that the ghost expansion pack is out I declare that X-wing is now a game for little children that cannot show violence thus red dice are no longer allowed in this game. :o

You will all just have to learn how to play x-wing with rolling only green dice. ;)

So as long as you don't see it is OK. Time to go on a murder spree, just gotta do it out of plain sight! Just find it funny, because Star Wars was meant to be a young adult film at it's time. Violence is still violence regardless of how you candy coat it. I ain't going to get to much on that subject pass this. I applaud you though for monitoring what your kids watch, not many parents actually care enough to do so now a days.

I so much agree with Hobojebus. Rebels is just so indefinitly shallow it hurts. However, it a kids. show. It needs to be black and white. So, even though one can excuse lack of depth via target audience that doesn't mean I nees to buy into that. As a customer I am free to buy what I like, since Rebels doesn't interest me I will pass this time.

All of Star Wars is incredibly shallow and just a fun adventure romp. Sometimes it does it better than others, but that's all Star Wars is, so Rebels kinda makes sense to me, and i'm laughing at the idea that the empire is supposed to be competent given somebody watching the OT.

I feel this way about wave 7

One of each for wave 7

After buying 3 scyke and 2 vipers which I rarely use I'll buy just one of each and go from there

Are you me?

I was watching terminator at 7 along with predator and alien and it did me no harm I've never killed anyone or gone psychotic and those make the darkest moments in star wars laughable.

Don't coddle your kids the world's a harsh place your not teaching them to deal with that fact, your just setting them up to be doormats.

Things like giving trophies for participation are a terrible idea kids need to learn there are winners and losers so they don't coast through life never trying.

Oh I can see the headlines now!

BOARD GAMES!!! I meant Board Games :o

Green dice don't like me

2 gozers, 3 V1s, one of everything else...

I wasn't going to comment as I have nothing fresh to add. I despise Rebels (I tried to like it ... I really did) and have no interest in the EU. OT for me.

But then I thought 2 things.

1: Good on you FFG. It is clear by the feedback in the various posts since the announcement that many folk are happy with the inclusion of Rebels ships. You know your customers. I may not like it but it seems a majority of fellas do. Well done. You are giving your players what they want. You are listening to your customers. I know, it's basic business 101 but .. A vast majority of us are happy.

2: I was a little disappointed that scenario packs weren't announced. I'm not holding my breathe for them .. but I was hoping.

Wave 7 is 1 hounds tooth, 1 kwing, 1 tie punisher, 2 kirazx fighters

Wave 8 is 1 punishing one, 1 mist hunter, 1 ghost, and maybe 2 tie inqusitors depending on upgrades

And 1 assault carrier

Slightly off topic .. But is anyone feeling overwhelmed? We've yet to get our hands on Wave 7 and/or Raiders (unless you're at Gencon) and we're being shown what's next .. With something in between (clearly EPVII stuff).

Personally, I'd like to have a wave here before the next one is spoiled.

Im shocked at the amount of you 'old hands' that keep saying episode and not CHAPTER!!

The episodes are the mid 90's CGI festivals

The OT is Starwars, Chapter V the empire strikes back and Chapter VI return of the jedi.

I'm shocked at all the old hands calling it 'A New Hope'...I thought it was Star Wars, right?

Seriously, chapter? Was that outside the U.S.?

Then I don't wanna see you playing Horton, Howlrunner, Backstabber, and a host of other EU retconned characters, because, well they don't exist.

Now I'm not saying you can't do it, you are a free person and can spend your money how ever you would like. I'm just saying your logic is pretty flawed.

It's really just a figure of speech. I don't get into Rebels tv show but I like a lot of the EU stuff. I basically have a personal canon, as someone eloquently described earlier in this thread.

Yes, "personal canon" is a great way to put it! Although, I'm definitely in the minority among my friends, so FFG probably does have their audience figured out better than I do.

Also, regarding Horton...he's from the X-Wing novels, so I'm not sure he's really retconned. Some of the TIE pilots, definitely. Outside of Maarek Stele and Baron Fel there aren't that many Imp pilot bios to draw on.

Wasn't in the movie as a named pilot, book came out way later. That by definition of canon is retconning. Again, people can hold what they want as their own canon, just kinda funny, its like saying only half the laws of physics apply because I only observe the first few found.

Not really. Physics is not something someone decides, it's something that exists on its own independently of people. The Star Wars Canon is decided by various groups of people motivated by various things, so fans get to decide what they do and do not accept without being somehow logically flawed or stupid.

I don't get OP. EU ships have been around since wave 3, why are we still talking about accepting parts of the EU when we all have HWK-290s in our fleets? Or TIE Defenders? Or phantoms? Starvipers? Decimators? Back then, I didn't like the HWK-290 because it wasn't the Raven's Claw, and I hadn't played the early Jedi Knight games. I bought it though, remember thinking it looked kinda dorky on the table besides the Millenium Falcon. Then... surprise! I stopped caring, and found that it adds interesting things to the game!

I fully trust FFG in this. They made the TIE Punisher look a lot better than it looked in various corners of the Internet, same for the K-wing. The only ship I still find ugly is the E-wing, there were better looking E-wings there. They make good miniatures, with good gameplay in a game that is both very enjoyable casually and very competitive. For the orthodox version of X-wing, why haven't people stuck to wave 1 and 2? Because it's not as fun as the whole package!

I admit I have stopped buying enough of everything to play 100pts of a single ship, because it's no longer a good idea, too many ships I won't get to play. Right now I buy 1 of each, multiples when needed/on impulses. I will probably do so with wave 7, wave VIIā„¢ and wave 8//Gozanti.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Battle of Yavin pack. I do want that!

Wave 5 almost did it for me, but I bought 2 of each...

But now with Wave 8 my wallet rejoices! I have no interest whatsoever in this Rebels stuff. I'll probably buy the bounty hunter ships. Now, they haven't revealed the upgrades yet, and I'm sure there's something I'll want. But as a casual player I don't really NEED them, and it looks like there's some awesome stuff (like tractor beams) in the scum ships.

What say you? Anyone else share my "if it didn't exist when I discovered Star Wars, it doesn't exist" mentality?

Yes, totally. This is how I felt about wave 7. I'll only be getting the K-Wing (and I can't believe the K-Wing... of ALL ships... is the one that ended up being the most attractive of the lot...)

For wave 8, I'm also stoked to be saving money. I'll only need the Mist Hunter. Maybe I'll get the TIE Inquisitor for the XX-23 Tracer missiles. But I'm not in any hurry. Take your time.

This. Why are we being shown what comes next, teased with ep7 filler in between and we have yet to get the current wave? It's like showing a teaser trailer for episode 8 before episode 7 is in theatres. I hope this is a premptive strike for a christmas push but at this rate getting over 12 ships a year not including epics is getting kinda saturated. I still believe FFG has release issues so the sky isn't falling I just think they are setting the bar a little high.
