X-Wing Cooperative Campaign

By Darth Emphatic, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I am putting this in off-topic because it didn't seem to fit any other forum.

I have looked through quite a few campaigns, but haven't had the chance or I don't own every possible ship expansion, to know the answer to my question. I hoped to impose on the extended knowledge here to see if what I am looking for exists.

Are there any campaigns that could be easily adopted to be cooperative without a human opponent. I imagine a transport type campaign, something where the 'bad guys' ships just make consistent predetermined maneuvers across the map to reach the other side, or something like that. Any suggestions?

My wife isn't fond of the competitive squad building aspect of the game, but she does like star wars and I thought a cooperative campaign that is mission based with a AI-esque controlled opponent might work. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hey, a little bit ago I experimented with a similar idea of doing a "human vs AI" campaign type game. In it I made some gun turrets and a space station that the human players had to destroy. The AI controlled a small squad of patrol ships and turrets that attacked the closest "human" ship. essentially the patrol ships had a set area they patrolled and the turrets where obviously stationary. The nice part about something like this is that you can use as many ships as you want, but the downside is that you may need to create turrets or a field to play on.

Hope this helps :)

There is also imperial assault. While it doesn't have an ai either, the campaign (i forget how many missions) isn't designed to be pass or fail. It's still enjoyable by both sides win or lose as the campaign continues.

You could set up a Death Star Trench run. Stationary turrets and TIEs that move at a predetermined pace.

Alternatively, take the combat out of it and have a race around the map (maybe hit specific targets, ID freighters. Each 2 rounds add a TIE fighter to the field that follows a typical flight path (controlled by players and takes the most obvious move - nothing fancy. Agree that it always attacks the closest ship, uses focus for action, etc)

Thanks for the replies, guys. I like something missio based, like grabbing the cargo and making a run for it, but its tough to make that competitive without it really just being a dogfighting battle focused only on killing the other ships and having to manage their AI. I like the idea of a turret field, but aside from hoping to roll evades well, where is the skill flying portion that makes it not just a straight line run to pick up some cargo and turn sround and run back to the otherside of the board and hopefully you dont get hit while you do it. I am very open to suggestions in this regard. Looking for to gove variety, require some different game mechanics, but not just be a straight 100pt 1v1 battle.
