Mists of Bilehall: what we know

By Zaltyre, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Also I paused it when he looked at the first page of the rulebook. Would have been handy had he flipped it to the page containing the campaign structure, but I guess we can't ask for everything. In anycase, yes. this is comined with The Chains That Rust and it will explain how to combine the two in that expansion. They also said it would be released in 2016.

So... thanks for the information. But I don't think you should blame and insult the guy juts for not making a 100% script of what was in the box. I treated the video as a general view of the content, not an exhaustive guide.

I'm sorry for giving you this hard work, Omnislash024, it was not my intetion. I was searching for an unboxing video, and so far this seems the only one I could find. As I said, it's just about see the contents. I liked the tiles and could see some things I still wasn't aware.

By the way the maps seem really bigger than in the others expansions .. no?!

I'm just opening it now :) If there is anything else you guys need to know? :D

Sorry. I was a bit frustrated from watching it. I am of the impression that if you're gonna do something, do it right. I don't mind typing out info though Leewoy, so don't worry about it. I'm sure folks we're interested in the cards and he flips through them so fast it's hard to read any of them.

Anyway, as good as it looks I still think I'll wait on Chains.

I must admit I too was a bit bothered with how it was presented. Picks up a monster "Oh right these are the, ..hmm.. what were these called again..".

A bit of preparation would'nt have been a bad thing :)

AtomAgeVampire, mind going over the Campaign structure ?

The campaign is basically:

Introduction - All players get 1xp at the start and can immediately spend it - Win or Lose Reward: 1xp for all and 100 gold for heroes. If heroes win: Nothing, of the OL wins: 1xp. Additional: For each hero that moves off the exit 25 gold

Choose freely between 2 quests - Win or Lose Reward: 1xp for all and 50 gold for heroes. If heroes win: 50 gold per hero and The White Crown, if the OL wins: 1xp and Waiqar's Favour

Choose freely between 2 quests - Win or Lose Reward: 1xp for all and 50 gold for heroes. If heroes win: 50 gold per hero and Fear Eater, if the OL wins: 1xp and Blade of Brivala

Choose freely between 2 quests - Win or Lose Reward: 1xp for all and 50 gold for heroes. If heroes win: 50 gold per hero and Undertaker's Coat, if the OL wins: 1xp and Undertaker's Coat

Finale (of which encounter 2 is either a or b, based on the winner of the third act 1 quest)

I have the feeling that each new campaign brings more money to the heroes. If you add to it the rumors gold, heroes may become nicely equipped. I remember my first SR campains where it was so frustrating to see all these bloody objects and never have a penny to even buy a trinket.

Since you mentioned rumors, I'm suprised that there isn't a clear answer in the rulebook if we should be using rumors or not. I guess we can? We just can't play the advanced quest.

I do not think there are rumor cards in the Bilehall box at all- or do you mean a rumor while playing a Bilehall campaign? My guess would be no.

Yeah, I mean other rumors. The mini campaigns clearly state "Players cannot use rumor cards when playing a mini campaign".

Nowhere (as far as I can see) is this mentioned in the Bilehall manual. Is this an oversight then?

My assumption is that rules for rumors will be included in 'Chains,' since that has the rules for integrating the two single act campaigns into one.

The narrative of the Mists campaign means that rumour quests would not fit with the story.

I was hoping to use rumour cards but now that I have read the quest I would not want to introduce a rumour quest which would break the immersion.

What do you mean ? Why is it different from any other campaign ? You mean that they arent suppose to leave the mistlands ?

Thematically speaking, I think Ravencour is correct that the heroes really don't leave the mistlands during the entire act. (This isn't dramatically different from say, Nerekhall, where you don't really have reason to leave the city.)

The biggest reason I assume rumors are not a thing in the one-act format is that there is no interlude- so several of the mechanics (especially rewards for the OL) simply don't exist.

Yeah, I'm not arguing that it might not be thematicly correct, I was just wondering why they didn't bother to explicitly say you can't use rumors. Right now, there is nothing officially saying they can't be a thing either

True. I'm merely defaulting to my best guess which is: since the rumor mechanic can at best be incompletely worked in (no advanced quests, no interlude before which to receive rewards for rumor quests played but not attempted) it makes sense to leave it out.
