Are the ships to big ???

By Wetaas, in Star Wars: Armada

Hello

I agree the new large ships look beautiful, but then I think how will we manage theese large ships in play.
They are just to big to play on a normal play mat. Soon everybody are playing this game on the floor, because there are no tables big enough.

So my question for all in the forum is:
Do you think the chosen scale is wrong. Should FFG started with a lover scale so we would see more larger ships in play. ???

I feel the same with X-wing as bigger and bigger ships come into play it makes it difficult to play the game.

What is your thought about this.????

Don't think we will know until they are released but I do not think they are too big right now. Remember we are still going to have 400 point fleet limits so each side will have 1 maybe 2 large ships and some smaller escorts. 1000 point homebrew games will probably find that they do not have enough room to maneuver on a 6x3 play area but 400 point lists should be just fine.

Maybe you shouldn't panic until Wave 2 comes out.

Armada uses a 3x4 playing area. Warmachine uses a 4x4 (I think), and 40k uses 6x4. So I don't think Armada is all that unreasonable with space requirements

If anything, get ready to see more creative ways to set the ships up at the start (especially Imperial) to let them use all of the real estate on the board. Or just not fly off the other side of the table.

Armada uses a 3x6 playing area. Only the setup area is 3x4.

300 points uses 3 by 6

400 points uses 3 by 6

there will be nothing bigger required than what you are already using

not to mention these fat asses will be exorbitantly expensive (points-wise), so I doubt you'll be filling the table with them :P Don't even think you'll be able to shove more than 4 ISDs into a list after accounting for commander

The Cr90 is to big....

yeah, i think it is w/l actually.

so 6x3.

Large ship bases are going to be wider than a Small ships length (significantly linger which is 6.5mm) so a large ship is 5.078" long and 3.051" wide. They will run over EVERYTHING which is why I think they will be well balanced

For Sale? No. No they are not. Q4 now.

Display? Yes. And the ISD is Biiiiig.

Wave 2 has probably been delayed due to the same reason as X-wing wave 8 - Episode 7 stuff they cannot speak of, which is "on the water" Now I don't know if that means on the boat (if it does then we might see stuff as early as Sept with the rest of Episode 7 toy reveals) which would be awesome.

What I want is information on wave 2! We know so little!

Unlikely. Wave 2 was announced four months ago. It just went to the printer maybe a month ago. I believe FFG also mentioned that they had some issues at the printer that they couldn't get into the details with. That seems to be a much more likely scenario.

Yeah, FFG has probably had Wave 3 on the drawing board prior to being able to get solid info on any epidose VII capital ships. I also wouldn't be suprised if Disney is trying to keep any climactic fleet battles under wraps for now. Starfighters are one thing, since we've seen them in the previews, so a small leak from Episode VII Starfighter models and playsets is not a big deal, but since we haven't gotten a good look at the Capital Ships yet, I suspect Disney has told FFG to wait a bit for Episode VII Armada expansions.

That's how it feels fickle.

The new ships come on a larger base, but as far as I know, they will be using the same maneuver tool, with the same movement distance and yaw as what we have now. I think it will all work out fine.

Wait, on the picture in the previous page, is this seriously allowed ? :P

I am hopping to get a reply back from FFG by the end of the week on this.

The ships are big enough. Humanity and this world are too small.
