In loving Memory... A thread for farewells to EU ships

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

Um... half this wave is old EU ships...

Agreed, but they're there because they're ships belonging to the bounty hunters from ESB - something that Alex Davy is on record as wanting to see/introduce into X-Wing.

The perception is that now that they're there, and with Rebels and the new movies, there will be no more "EU" ships going forward.

IMHO wave 7 was really scraping the bottom of the EU barrel...

There's plenty of new ships in the new movie that we haven't seen yet... (if rumours/leaked artwork are to be believed)

The first spin off film, Rogue One set just before ANH starts filming in a few weeks...

And with up to three TV series planned let alone future movies, there's going to be a lot of new ships to bring into the fold...

I expect we'll still see the Scurg or whatever it's called only because it's in an Armada wave, but there's still potentially room for one or two more until all of the aforementioned options really open up...
(and I'd personally like to see the TIE Hunter and TIE droid)

The bottom of the EU barrel is still higher than the pit that is cartoon and sequel ships~

RIP in pieces:

Bit of a jump OP.

But still. I'll never feel like this game's complete if we don't get the Gun and Missile boats...

Eh, relax. With ~2 waves per year, they're still going to need models faster than Rebels and the movies will be releasing them.

Well, here's hoping they just stop releasing new ships instead of bukkake-ing obscure EU rubbish onto the table just for the sake of it.

I would like them to just draw a line under the game and say "That's it, we're done".

They cleared out Rebels in one wave (the Gozanti, Ghost and TIE/v1 are literally everything), and the wave has two EU ships. We've definitely got a few more frankenTIEs in store.

Don't give up hope fellow EU-ers, there's always Wave 9...

The devs know full well there's a demand for the gunboat they'd be mad not to make it they'd be throwing away alot of money.

Well, here's hoping they just stop releasing new ships instead of bukkake-ing obscure EU rubbish onto the table just for the sake of it.

Well, here's hoping you shutup.

Kinda rude, but yes. I would much rather have obscure EU ships, then having none and the game dieing off.

The H-Wing is the worst of all things. May FFG always find something, anything, to put out instead of it.

I once thought like you. Then two days ago the K-Wing was released at gencon.

And there was rejoicing because it's still better than the H-wing?

In the way that Ebola is better than Salmonella.

They release when there's a purpose. This time round, the purpose was "get the news out about the cartoon's ships before Episode VII swamps the signal:noise ratio for a while".

We all thought Wave 6 was going to be the fix for munitions we deserved, but we were incorrect - when they said they had love coming for bombers, it was for bombs. Look at the K-wing, Deathrain, and the sheer number of tokens in each pack (re-enforced by Ghost soon after). The ordnance fix seems to be coming one card at a time, with trickery like the new tracer missile helping with some of the fundamental challenges attached.

I betcha they're keeping the Gunboat (or Missile boat; honestly they fill the same design space a little too closely) in reserve. Either that or the CEO doesn't like it. :P

I figure the missile boat is a unique title for the gunboat.

gotta say that since we've seen no sign of "new" ships in Episode 7 beyond variations on X Wings and TIE's I wouldn't count EU out for the count yet

I will take the GAT-12 over the assault boat any day.

I think your right. They need to get all the Rebels stuff out and sold before the new movies start creating a demand for all new material that will push Rebels material to the back burner.

I'm guessing the next release will be some sort of S&V aces with 2 new paint schemes (or maybe a whole new EU fighter and an alternative paint scheme) and probably an S&V EU Huge ship with another alternate paint schemed fighter. Save the modelers time for working on new ships from The Force Awakens.

They still had EU ships in the rebels wave...so I don't think EU ships are going away (although their canon status already has).

They are not non-canon if thats what your trying to say. The T-Wing is the only one that is 2ndary canon on the list, the other three have been used in new material.

That is a bit of a leap. Pretty certain that LFL isn't making new content faster than what FFG wants to release stuff.

No kidding. Let's face it, announcing and releasing all the major ships from Rebels at the same time - Ghost, Phantom, Inquisitor's TIE, Gozanti (fingers crossed) - simply makes sense. They all come from the same show, people who watch the show will be familiarwith them, so seeing them all together is an easy hook to bring new players in.

It's not a "sign" of anything other than good business sense. It's certainly not a sign that the sky is falling on the EU, especially when they added WEU ships in the same wave...

...still, that's another lovely picture of the Assault Gunboat though. At the top. Where it belongs.

The only thing good about wave 8 is that we get a 2nd Punisher... I hate the TIE Advance V1, the tracer missile and how it works in game makes it less likely we will see the TIE Scout. That makes not like this wave as much as well. Bring on the Star Wings and Missile Boats!

I figure the missile boat is a unique title for the gunboat.

I mean...it SHOULDN'T be. They aren't even built on the same hull-type.

They are already done and on the water right now. The first wave at least...

Goodbye Q-Wing, I suspect the Punishing One is the closest I will ever get to you:

I think most people are overreacting. First of all a lot of EU/Legends ships and vehicles have been canonized by the new canon comics, games, and novels and there is no reason to believe that more won't follow so even if they do go pure canon there's hope for those ships.

Secondly there is no proof that the canon will introduce new designs rather then reusing EU/Legends ones faster then FFG will release new waves

Yes, too bad about EU basically becoming taboo. I wonder what will happen to Armada? RIP:

I would really like to have seen more pilot cards from the X-Wing series too. Another aces set with an X-wing and A-wing would be awesome!

I still have some faith though, since so far FFG has avoided the Clone Wars era...so credit where credit is due.

Good riddance, really. It's too bad they'd never be able to use the real version:

I'm ready for a whole new generation of ships.

Bounty hunters are all in now so bye bye EU is ok with me.
