In loving Memory... A thread for farewells to EU ships

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

So, with the movement to Star Wars: Rebels, it seems the Extended Universe ships have all but been shot down at this point, as the movement to Episode VII and beyond after Rebels will likely cement them in the past, instead of on bases... Here are some of the beauts we likely will never see...

In loving Memory....

May your missiles ever strike down rogue Tie Defenders.

With X-wing's never needing a counter, you were never even conceived in this universe within a universe...

Ah yes, the Rebel T-wing... It was... Um... a thing. How sad to see it go.

... May the Siamese twin A-wing never ever stay forgotten.

Please feel free to post your own farewells to the soon to be forgotten. May they all rest peacefully.

Just not peacefully in our carrying cases as little plastic model spaceship play things. They will have to find another, more abstract, resting place.

We will miss you. Oh wait

May the Great Bird of the Galaxy take you under his starry wing, Gunboat.

That is a bit of a leap. Pretty certain that LFL isn't making new content faster than what FFG wants to release stuff.

They still had EU ships in the rebels wave...so I don't think EU ships are going away (although their canon status already has).

Also say goodbye to the Havoc. That upsets me more than the others.

Eh, relax. With ~2 waves per year, they're still going to need models faster than Rebels and the movies will be releasing them.

I'm not an EU fan, and I like the Assault Gunboat- Imperial. Looks like a small Lambda shuttle. Perhaps Disney could include them in Rebels or Episode 7 (i.e. as a predecessor or a successor to the Lambda)?

No kidding. Let's face it, announcing and releasing all the major ships from Rebels at the same time - Ghost, Phantom, Inquisitor's TIE, Gozanti (fingers crossed) - simply makes sense. They all come from the same show, people who watch the show will be familiarwith them, so seeing them all together is an easy hook to bring new players in.

It's not a "sign" of anything other than good business sense. It's certainly not a sign that the sky is falling on the EU, especially when they added WEU ships in the same wave...

...still, that's another lovely picture of the Assault Gunboat though. At the top. Where it belongs.

Yes, it is indeed, a beauty.

Oh, and Pssst! This is kind of a sarcastic thread, so please don't take it too seriously. ;)

It's cool, I just like to forcefully bludgeon the point home on occassion! ;)

One doesn't spend $4 billion to look backwards and sigh about what used to be.

Eh, relax. With ~2 waves per year, they're still going to need models faster than Rebels and the movies will be releasing them.

I'm not so sure about that, it really depends how many new good ships will be in the movies/shows. They are after all, coming out with a movie every year, and they'll likely start a new series when Rebels is over. Still, we may see a few Legends ships show up now and then, but most of them will be forgotten, like the H-60 Tempest Heavy Bomber, because B-wings needed more cockpits!

Every time I see a ship like this, my mind always thinks "Hmm... I wonder what it would be like to drive a car, if the drivers seat was allll the way to the left or right, and the car was as wide as a semi trailer, but otherwise unchanged." That's how I feel these type of ships must be to fly.

It is telling about the fandom that it is really tough to tell.

Gene Roddenberry? Wrong franchise.

Yeah, Roddenberry created The Matrix, not Star Wars

One doesn't spend $4 billion to look backwards and sigh about what used to be.

Some people can let let it go... they are not going to do a full on prequel line. That sad era of STAR WARS is being played down because most people hate it

I expect to see KOTOR however. The Mouse is working on films for that era...

;)

The H-Wing is the worst of all things. May FFG always find something, anything, to put out instead of it.

It's so sad that Boba had to pick that hunk of junk after crawling out of the Sarlac. Slave 1 lasted 30 years, but Slave 2 last like a couple comic books. Thanks again dark empire.

Ive said it elsewhere, but RIP Chiss clawcraft. I'd suspected for a while that you had no chance to survive (so) make your time

R-41 Starchaser. You just weren't ugly enough for scum.

Um... half this wave is old EU ships...
