Tried out a Boba/ IG-88 combo at my FLGS, and the results are favorable. Went with Boba instead of Brobots because I was worried about PS9 pilots (whisper, soontir, and corran in particular).
My build:
BOBA
Veteran Instincts
Engine Upgrade
Gunner
Inertial Dampeners
IG-88B
Veteran Instincts
Heavy Laser Cannon
FCS
Autothrusters
Inertial Dampeners
First match was against Corran Horn ( VI, FCS, R2, EU) and Chewbacca (Falcon Title, VI, EU, Gunner). Managed to separate and isolate Corran due to asteroid placement, and finished him off before Chewie really got into the fray. Then chased the Falcon through the rocks before putting him down. Pretty easy win, 100-0.
Next match was a tricked out Soontir, Howlrunner, and four academy ties. Boba ran up the gut and broke up the swarm effectively, and got to re-roll every die due to his abilities at range one. Soontir fell to IG-88 from a HLC hit, but not before getting in close to Fett and stripping his shields. Some dodgy maneuvering on my part left me trying to skirt the board edge to avoid a cluster of debris, which allowed the remaining three ties from the swarm to chip away and eventually knock out Boba before IG-88 finished them off. Closer than it should have been at 100-50.
Final match was against a loaded up Ruthless Chirpy Stressimator with Mara Jade, Vader, and some others, paired with Maarek Stele. He deployed them on opposite ends of the board, and my 99 point squad gave me initiative, forcing him to move first and fire last with each ship. First round of combat saw Boba head straight for Stele, inflicting good damage at R1, while IG-88 made a hard turn around Chirpy, bypassing him for a finishing blow on the Tie Advanced with his HLC. Two turns later and Chirpy wound up being chased off the board, although I let him fudge his maneuver to keep playing. He managed to get IG down to two hull, but that was about as much as he could do as the Bounty Brothers decimated the Decimator quite handily in another shutout.
Overall, I think the two paired well together. IG likes to be at range three with the HLC, but if he gets close and misses with his primary, he can take another four dice shot at someone else. Boba got to re-roll and re-attack constantly, and he really shined as the tank. I think they are a pretty good combo, and will probably use them at next week's store tournament.
