So looking at the Wave 8 looks like Scum and Rebels get some goodish ships compared to Empire who get a silly little weaker Tie Advanced? Wth is up with this?

Only reason of ever getting the advanced prototype would be for the new upgrade cards, I just can't ever see the Advanced Prototype being used in any decent squad list or even a friendly list...

I disagree... if anything, it's the one I might be the most excited about. The title gives it amazing action economy, and The Inquisitor himself's ability is absolutely nothing short of incredible: he's always throwing three red dice when he shoots, he bypasses autothrusters, and the defender doesn't get an additional defense dice as R3. Even if the rest of it ends up being a bust, there's zero doubt he'll end up being a regular ace in Imperial lists.

But given he's only 25 points and has an awesome ability, I'd wager the lowest generics will be pretty cheap to field (14-16?), though they'll need help in order to actually make any real use out of the title. Maybe the Baron whatever generics, with a slightly higher PS, as FFG appears to be pushing against the two ship meta with this wave...

Still: a bunch of generic v1s + a higher PS escort firing out the Tracers will then be a swarm for, at least a turn, rocking TLs, Evades, and Focuses all at once. Timed it right at you have a turn of utter dominance. Maybe Imp Fett with extra munitions or "Redline". If only Redline could get an EPT and bump up to 9... Course, there's always the good Colonel Jendon.

Without knowing any cost other than ps8 and knowing nothing about the dial I think it's a bit premature. If it has a decent dial then these are sort of a wing analogs since they have boost.

I can do work with A wings.

For 26 points you get a guy with free rerolls, evade, and always lobs three dice and ignores range three. Oh, and if you'd like you can run it using barrel roll boost.

Also: Autothrusters.

Sad thing is that the Evade is a free action and not a token, which means, you can't combo it very well.

For example, with Push the Limit, you'll need to use the Target Lock as your first action (gain the evade action) and then make another action from PTL, but not the other way around, since you'll be stressed.

I'm also very underwhelming about this one.

I don't know. It got 2 shield and 3 agility, boost, a missile slot and a Guidance`computer. Which turns all focus to hits on missiles and torps as a mod. Seems pretty good to me (It's the ordnance fix everyone is looking for.

Also when attacking the inquisitor always counts everyone at range 1 from all ranges, that's nasty. Lastly, the xx23 which gives targets locks to all friends within range 1 and 2.

I think this ship is super nasty!!

With autothrusters and the title, he's going to be ridiculously hard to kill at range 3, where his ability will give him solid attack. Also he has an ept.

Game-breaking? No.

Necessary to buy? No.

Viable? Definitely.

Carnor Jax (PS 8) + shield upgrade is 30 points. Both can take Autothrusters. For the price of Carnor+AT+Shield, you get Inquisitor + AT+ Proton Rockets with a 1-point savings. Heck, naked but for title the inquisitor is the same price and durability as Fel's Wrath or Lt Lorrir w/ Hull upgrades, and he's much better than them (and by extension cheaper than the same comparison with the Ints between them and Jax).

Seems pretty decent to me.

This is true though I am willing to bet that the interceptor has a better dial to compensate.

It's painted white, and the badass solar panels other TIEs have are covered over with armor plates(even though the ship inexplicably has a weaker hull than other TIEs)!

I think those that don't like or are "underwhelmed" by the TIE Adv. Prototype (which I will call "TAP" from now on) are in the minority. The TAP is a very versatile (and seemingly low cost) ship for the Empire. With the V1 title it gains survivability and becomes a great swarm fighter. If it can take the X1 title, it will gain more offensive punch. The boost and barrel roll actions give it maneuverability, but with the toughness of two shields in front of the 2 hull. This ship is looking to be an Imperial Starviper!

so the Inquistor (25) w/prockets (not usable with ability, but still usable at range 1) - (3), Ptl (3), thrusters (2), and title (1) = 34

that is more than affordable for what is essentially a super A-wing

he's not quite as maneuverable as Jake and lacks PS 9 (no v.i + test pilot for PTL) but he hits a hell of a lot harder at ranges 2-3

I think the upgrade cards included with a new ship are a good signal as to how it was designed to be used:

- Deadeye

- Homing Missiles

- S-Thread Tracers

- An unknown modification that references missile weapons and a hit icon. "Gui... C..." suggests "Guidance Computer/Controls" to me.

- TIE/v1, a title that rewards target locking with an evade token.

Based on what we're given, I think the Advanced Prototype is going to get a lot of mileage out of its missile slot, and the addition of S-Thread Tracers opens up that slot for as support role. For example, Tracers for 1 point let a high PS Prototype (say, the Inquisitor) quickly set up a group of ATC Advanceds with target locks.

It's no buzzaw shuttle, but with Tracers you can affect any number of ships at range 1 and 2 and nab a target lock and evade token yourself for the trouble. If you can lead off an engagement with a Tracer hit, the Advanceds can focus/evade instead of needing a turn to set up a TL. Meanwhile, the Inquisitor is happy to hang out at Range 3 taking target-locked virtual-Range-1 potshots while protected by an evade token, Autothrusters, and range bonus to defense.

Basically all of the included upgrade cards affect ordnance in one way or another, so I think we'll see a lot of missile use on the Prototype and I'm very interested to discover what that "Gui... C..." modification does.

The V1 title is going to give the swarm more teeth. Imagine 4 to 6 TIES with an evade token AND a TL! The TAP is going to be the go-to swarm leader!

Hmm maybe maybe my first impressions were overly negative, old inquisitor def needs a good look at I can see the loss atk ds he provides, didn't even consider him with ptl and title in a swarm that's quite resilient, I'll still be getting 1 or 2 for his cards but maybe He might sneak into my playing lists aswell thanks for sharing your impressions guys

These guys just embarrased TIE bombers and StarVipers (At least in the cost:effect ratio) simultaneously, with an A-wing stat list and a Z-95 upgrade bar. They even come with that delicious little 1pt title that pretty much acts as a free PTL for an offensive+defensive action simultaneosuly... and with that new missile, they can trigger it without having taken the action to start with.

So long as they're priced at 15-16 points, they're going to be hilarious.

I don't know, seems useful to me. A lot of the Imperials' problem right now is that there aren't good low-cost ships that actually work. This, and the fixed normal advanced, will give a lot more ca. 20 pt. options that don't die in one shot. My only concern is that it's going to be weird seeing this very unique looking ship replacing the standard Tie as filler material, but then again, when was the last time you saw a Tie in a competitive list?

If that's actually what that does...*ouch*...that's going to really amp up the effectiveness of Adv Proton Torps. Who needs 'munitions failsafe' for 1 pt when you can just convert all your results to 'hits'? Not many things get to roll 5 evade dice...
