I just want to share my perspective.
I grew up watching the OT. Well, I watched the original OT first. Then, I watched the Special Editions. I only know characters and ships from the OT movies. I know little from the EU (like, the only characters I know from that are Kyle Katarn and Jan ors from the Jedi Outcast and Admiral Thrawn because everyone keeps talking about him). Recently, I also started watching animated features such as Star Wars Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Basically, when it comes to Star Wars, if it appears on TV, I know about it. If it doesn't, then I probably don't know about it.
So, with that background, having three consecutive sets of mostly EU-only ships, i.e. Waves 5-7, was a disappointment for me personally. (I understand that others' views are different on this, and I'm not trying to spark any debates, just wanting to share my perspective). The only non-EU ships were reprints - the Most Wanted Pack. IG-2000 and Hound's Tooth are arguably tangentially related to the OT movies, as IG-88 and Bossk both briefly appeared in ESB, but their ships did not appear IIRC. Wave 7, for me, was somewhat of a nadir. I recognized none of the ships and was concerned that all FFG would release is more EU stuff (which many of you seem to like but which my friends and I don't care much for).
As such, when the Ghost/Phantom and TIE Inquisitor (I'll just call it that) were revealed yesterday, I was ecstatic. I'm looking forward to playing with those ships. At the same time, I am also happy that there were 2 EU ships - Punishing One and Mist Hunter. I'll probably never play with those two, but it was good to see that movie-only fans and EU fans could both get something out of a Wave.
Conclusion and TLDR: I understand that different people are looking for different things in a game, and a good game should have something for everyone. I think FFG has done a good job with regard to that.
Edit: In terms of playing style, my friends and I play casually. That is, we seldom go to tournaments and prefer to just "play for fun."
