Is anyone here still interested in Wave 7?

By gundamv, in X-Wing

Having seen the ships in Wave 8, I think the Wave 7 ships pale in comparison. At least a couple of the Wave 7 ships are niche pieces (K-Wing, TIE Punisher). That is, unless you like playing with bombs and/or ordinance, you probably won't need either ship. The other two are Scum ships, and not everyone plays or collects Scum as Scum is the late-comer faction.

In Wave 8, I see at least two exciting ships: Ghost and Inquisitor's TIE. The Punishing One could also be interesting. Don't like the Mist Hunter's sculpt but I suppose it could be ok.

For me, I think I might just skip Wave 7 and get more of Wave 8.

How about you? Has Wave 8's revealing made you less interested in Wave 7?

Kihraxz is still interesting, YV-666 is still interesting, K-Wing is still interesting (at least for TLT and SLAM), Punisher was always a bit boring.

Ghost is okay (pretty ship, 50/50 awful pilots/crew), Phantom is awful, Mist Hunter is FFG outright SAVING a ship with a fantastic model, Punishing One is interesting even if the model's a bit fugly, Inquisitor's TIE /looks/ neat but I dislike most everything else about it.

Since I just sunk $200 into Wave 7 and the Raider, I hope I haven't lost interest yet.

But I think anyone who dismisses the K-wing and Punisher and their upgrades as niche is going to miss the boat for the next metagame. Bombs are here and not kidding around, and torpedoes and missiles are gaining very quickly.

Not until the K-wing dial has been spoiled. ^_^

Has anyone seen it yet <_<

Even if you don't want any of the ordnance stuff there's a lot of upgrades people will want. Imperial players will want a couple of Punishers for the MkII upgrade to put on Defenders and Advanceds. Any one that plays Scum will want a couple of Khiraxzs for Glitterstim. Anyone that runs HWKs or Y-Wings will want a K-Wing for the Twin Laser Turret.

Like Vorpal, I am fiscally invested in Wave 7, but I agree Wave 8 seems more interesting. That being said, I loves me some Bossk, so I still have a big Wave 7 anchor.

Offhand...

1 straight and bank

2 straight, bank, and turn

3 straight and bank

No reds.

People around me only play casual games, so metagame doesn't matter as much here. I can see that bombs/ordinance are important to serious tournament players, though.

I think Hound's Tooth remains intriguing, but for me, that's mostly because of the funky firing arc and the ability to deploy the Nashtah Pup.

It's been spoiled. Take the HWK dial and make everything that is red, white. Then get rid of the 4 straight.

Will any of those upgrades be available in Wave 8 ships?

So, no K-turn?

Ghost has Conner Net and Cluster Mines. Punishing One has Plasma Torpedos. As far as I can tell those are the only ones.

Phantom is awful

I don't know that I'd say that until I saw the dial, the cost, and the pilot abilities. It's a 3 attack Z-95 that can take a systems slot, a crew, and a turret upgrade. It could end up being decent in lists even without the Ghost.

I was/am only really excited about the Hound's Tooth and some of the new upgrades. Kihraxz looks cool too, I don't play Rebels so I don't care about the K-wing, and the TIE Punisher I like but I'm kind of irked that all all the fixes I wanted for the Bomber were applied to that half ass EU copy.

What's a "Wave 7"?

Nope, still very interested in Wave 7.

this is what we call oh...shiney syndrome

you have your attentions when all of a sudden ooooh, is that "Ghost" from Rebels?

also totally on board with Vorpal here. Conner net especially (and especially with Advanced SLAM or Deathrain) is going to change things. Not PWTs, sadly, but everything else...

Well, the new shiny does help make the old dull into new shiny again, because I forget about the old stuff until it arrives. Then it's new and shiny again.

S**T Yeah I'm still interested. FCS plus munition on the Punisher. Bomb plus Slam on the KWing. A Multipurpose fighter for Scum in the Kiraszh. And painting the YV-666 like a winnebago with wings. What's not to be excited about?

A buddy of mine sent this text to me:

"Rebels wave with carriers, you must be ecstatic"

Which is kind of it.

I feel that Wave 7 is a turning point. The next 2 sets of releases after 7 will be Episode 7 and Rebels waves. That's important psychologically.

Wave 7 is kind of the last (presumably) EU wave. It has a lot of stuff people like, and is mechanically quite adept. The ships will be nice on the table and in the game. People will get enjoyment from Wave 7.

Very few people will have the childlike sense of wonder from the ships of Wave 7 that they will from Wave 8. Plus the Gozanti. Plus the stuff from Episode 7.

There is a reason that running an X-Wing is the biggest predictor of tournament failure. It's not because the ship is terrible. It's that a significant percentage of the player base is so wrapped up in going Pew Pew Pew with a beloved ship that they ignore the mild shortcomings of that ship. It will be hard to overlook any 2pt inefficiencies of Wave 7 ships. But many of us will ignore a couple points on the Ghost/Phantom combo, as long as Hera is flying and Sabine is shooting.

I'm still eager for Wave 7. But I nearly dropped a couple hundred on a Gozanti from Mel. That's a whole different thing.
