Crits triggering PTL

By Stoneface, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Can a crit with the ACTION header be used to trigger PTL? Conversely, can you perform an action, trigger PTL then attempt to repair a crit?

Went through the FAQ, rule book and did a forum search and came up empty for this scenario. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

An action's an action and you still took an action.

Can a crit with the ACTION header be used to trigger PTL?

Yes. The trigger for PtL is an action, and you have performed an action. PtL can also be triggered from free actions provided by other game effects.

Conversely, can you perform an action, trigger PTL then attempt to repair a crit?

No. PtL specifically specifies that the free action from PtL be one on your action bar.

No. PtL specifically specifies that the free action from PtL be one on your action bar.

So you can do it the other way around. Attempt the crit repair, triggering PtL to allow an Action Bar action.

The next obvious question that's likely to arise is "can you do an action and trigger Experimental Interface to attempt the crit repair?"

The answer to that one is "no, you can't", because EI says you get a free action from an Upgrade card with the "Action:" header, not a Damage card.

But, once again you could do it the other way around: Crit repair, EI, Upgrade action.

Boy are you good! I almost asked that question but realised the difference and caught myself. Evidently this has been asked before.

Thanks for the replies. Sometimes the rules of this 'simple' game get confusing.

Never mind...

Was going to point out that taking the Action to do something with a damage card would trigger PtL, or EI for that matter, but the upgrades only allow specific actions to be taken which do NOT include damage cards.

No doubt about that!

But you could do the reverse - perform the crit action and EI into an upgrade card like expose.
