How is nobody talking about the HK50s

By mazz0, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Commentary: The number four does seem odd, given HK-50 units appeared in groups of three in Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Additionally, a new precedent could be set for having the elite contain one model and the grey containing 2 or 3.

That, I like a lot.

Yeah, I was hoping it'd be one HK-47 and three HK-50s (or 51s, whatever), but I'd expect a different sculpt for HK-47, wouldn't you? And didn't somebody who was at GenCon say that none of them were HK-47? Not how sure how they knew...

1. It says on the box 4 HK assassin droids.

2. They revealed the 4 ally/villian packs, none are HK-47.

3. They'll save HK-47 as a selling point for another expansion.

I don't understand your first two points - HK-47 is an HK Assassin Droid - he could simply be the elite card (we haven't seen the cards yet have we?). Then 4 makes perfect sense.

As for point 3, I hope so! That would be the best option, as it would mean a unique sculpt for HK-47.

Am I the only one skeptical about getting HK-47?

We have IG-88 and no generic IG Assassin droids.

I know these droids last a long time, but thousands of years is still pushing it. I wonder if FFG Lore has them not be so old.

In any case, I'm excited to learn more about these droids in IA.

Skeptical about whether or not we'll get him, or about the merits of getting him?

If the canon FFG are using is one that includes Knights of the Old Republic then it's pretty clear technology was on a similar level 4 thousands year ago (and technology from the Infinite Empire was actually significantly better), so there's no problem with having droids from that era competitive in this one*, once some fluff reason for their preservation is created.

Perhaps we'd have had generic IGs if there had been stories about them.

HK-47 would be pretty bloody pissed off if we got generics and not him, he was mad enough about them copying him as it is!

*especially if it's actually a reassembled one, which could take advantage of whatever technological improvements there have actually been

No, they're just generic HK droids. With your argument any of those snowtroopers could be a random named guy. They won't do that. Also, it'd make no sense for them to have 3 regular HK assassin droid cards/figures and 1 single elite card/figure, they need to keep the number of figures per card even, in this case 2 regular and 2 elite. Also, they won't make HK-47 look the same as the generic HK droids, they'd want his sculpture to stand out both to be more noticeable for selling and recognizable during gameplay.

If they factor in the lore of Star Wars Galaxies (which I won't be surprised if they don't since its a mess.) HK-47 wasn't a droid during those 4000 years. His AI was uploaded into a ship that crashed on Mustafar and had his body rebuilt during the Galactic Civil War. The generic HK droids we are seeing could just be a newer model created by Black Sun or etc. It wasn't uncommon for crime lords to use assassin droids for troops, and perhaps the HK model is a tried and true model.

I agree with the OP: I'm shocked how little buzz there's been about the inclusion of the HK droids.

You're stating assumptions as if they're facts - "no, they're just generic HK droids", "They won't do that".

They won't do that? Says who? The analogy with Stormtroopers is a little wrong I think, since they can and have differentiated special Stormtroopers with visible different equipment. Without colour, HK-47 would be identical to HK-50s or 51s.

"Also, it'd make no sense for them to have 3 regular HK assassin droid cards/figures and 1 single elite card/figure, they need to keep the number of figures per card even, in this case 2 regular and 2 elite."

They 'need' no such thing - if they want to break that pattern,my hats up to them.

I agree that it's more likely HK-47 would be a different sculpt, and consequently that it's weird that an HK group looks like being 4 strong, but you're implying a degree of certainty in what is merely supposition.

Heh, I like the idea of them releasing some classic designs, like how you get companies that take classic cars and release them with modern engines, breaks, suspension, etc! Though not if it means we don't get HK-47.

The question is, who's tougher: HK-47 or IG88? IG88 is his own master, which must be a boon, but HK was designed to hunt Jedi (autonomously). Hmm.

I'm also sceptical (see my earlier post in this thread).

Do we know if they're Empire or Mercs?

Do we know if they're Empire or Mercs?

Speculation: With the Empire getting models for Snowtroopers and the tank, and Rebels getting the 3 heroes, it seems that the most fair and balanced result for populating Skirmish would be for the Wampas and HK models to be with the Mercenary faction.
