One thing today's announcements DEFINITELY make me want to do...re-watch 'Rebels'!

By xanderf, in X-Wing

How many Rebels episodes are there?

I watched all episodes up until either the one where this Greedo guy was saying "Tseebo is so sorry about your parents" to Ezra or the one where Ezra goes to Ilum, whichever is later. Wondering how hard it would be get caught up.

Very excited about the Ghost, by the way, and I like how the Phantom is an actual ship, not just a little token or tile without a figure.

Season 1 is 14, 15 episodes? and there are currently 2 or 3 season 2 episodes. Also the story really picks up after the Tseebo episode.

Got up to episode 4 (after watching Spark of Rebellion) and my stepdaughter had to go to bed. She made me promise not to watch more without her lol. We'll be watching again tomorrow while I paint Infinity minis lol

I stopped watching because I found Tseebo very annoying for some reason. Does he appear on a recurring basis? Or does he quietly disappear after his two/three episode arc is over?

2 episodes, and he's gone. Though, that storyline is where Rebels begins to really pick up, imo. Only a slight bump with the very fun Lando episode, but from there, it just feels like it just keeps building to the finale.

2-year old decided today was a "Starsh" day instead of Super-Y. Siege of Lothal it is!

That episode was like the Empire Strikes Back of Rebels. In that it was awesome and the best one yet.

In interviews, they have indicated that's basically the theme for the season.

'If season 1 was our A New Hope, then season 2 is our Empire Strikes Back.'

Or "When Vader shows up, our cast is going to have a bad time..."

Rewatching Rebels would ruin what parts of this wave I /do/ like.

Honestly, I wanted to like Rebels, and it has its moments, but SO much of the time the characters are badly-voiced, badly-written, and utterly flat.

Almost like it was created as a kids show.

So we should excuse it and call it good just because it meets its low target?

I honestly don't see people who like the OT can criticize the dialog in this one.

"Scruffy-looking nerf herder", really? I mean, good grief, that's something a 5 year old yells at a 4 year old. And let's not even get into Luke 'but I wanted to go to Toshi Station' Whinehopper.

The dialog and characters in 'Rebels' are pulling inspiration straight from the OT.

Badly voiced? Who let that trash opinion in?

On a ore serious note, they characters have well defined motivations, conflicting interests, fears, ambitions, and quirks. They follow a strong archetype to the letter, which is what star wars should do. Follow archetypes.

I'm super excited about this product. Rebels still looks stupid to me.

It grows on you, particularly once you get past all of the introductions and such.

When does it start growing on me?

I've watched the first movie, the entire first series and the second movie so far.

There's nothing more to watch and it still hasn't grown on me

Clone Wars cartoons were awesome. Dave Filoni did a great job with that show. I am not so sold on Rebels, but I only saw the first couple of episodes when they were streaming on the Star Wars website.

I am still waiting for the first season to come out on Blu Ray to give it another go.

Meh... I know this will cause controversy, but I feel like Dave Filoni is a kid trying to make a star wars movie. And it shows through in the material.

I'm sure it works for kids, but it doesn't work for me. The OT is about as childish as I can take.

Gimme gritty and dirty Star Wars instead! (which I'm hoping Rebel One will be)

Gritty and star wars don't mix. Star wars works because it is devoid of irony and cynicism. It's pulpy and romantic in nature.

Tell that to aunt beru and uncle owen.

And greedo.

And that Ewok that got killed.

I could go on...

Season one is a movie and 13 episodes. Season two is just the movie so far.

Tseebo is is only part of a two episode story arc. Ezra never went to Ilum. Ilum was shown on the Clone Wars in an episode.

I don't have Disney XD. is there another way to see this? I guess I can buy the episodes individually on iTunes or google play? Did someone say a DVD of the first season was coming out in September?

thanks.

I got the season pass on iTunes as they were coming out. You can buy the season, but I don't know off the top of my head how much. I'm pretty sure it's available on Google Play as well.

I think I might just do the same, I loved the Clone Wars, went in expecting to hate Rebels, but now I love Rebels. The cast are basically an RPG party, Freddie Prinze Jr. keeps proving he's a great voice actor, and it feels like more of the original trilogy. It's not afraid to be cheesy, because Star Wars is, well...cheesy. Embracing that but also going for the more serious parts in the same show just keeps showing Dave Filoni knows what he's doing with these animated series.

Plus, that Gozanti is all I've ever wanted. It can carry other models! AT LAST!

Tell that to aunt beru and uncle owen.

None of those things are what I'd consider gritty. They were there to show just how bad the Empire really is. Which is fitting for the black and white nature of space opera.

I'll say one thing about Rebels.

If you like Star Wars, I don't see how you can dislike Rebels unless you have some sort of bias against cartoons. The first season felt like ANH did, it truly captured the feel and tone of that movie.

I honestly think some people either don't really like Star Wars, or else they have forgotten what the movies were really like, and are actually fans of the EU stuff.

There's a difference between the PG violence and downright grittyness.

The tone of the films is overwhelmingly optimistic and romantic in nature.

Everything still ends in a party with the heroes celebrating, at the very least suggesting that things will get better if things are looking down.

There's a difference between the PG violence and downright grittyness.

Yeah GoT is gritty, because you know deep down that any single character may die at any moment. 40k is gritty for the same reason.

Star Wars on the other hand, there was never a doubt who would win in the end, or that any of the heroes were really in any serious risk of death.

I would attribute the grittiness of those settings more to the fact that they actively suck to live in. The galaxy far, far away is filled with adventure while those settings are fought with terror.

So we should excuse it and call it good just because it meets its low target?

Well, when you consider how the voice acting is on other successful shows that are designed for kids, yes. Pokemon, Digimon, Yugioh, all have / had pretty bad voice acting because they are made for kids.

Kids aren't all that concerned about the voice acting or whether adults find the story line to be predictable. The show is made to bring young kids into the Star Wars universe and get them excited to watch the original trilogy, the prequels, and the new trilogy that is coming out.
