FFG Article: Imperial Assault Carrier

By Plainsman, in X-Wing

So, functionally, what is the advantage to docking your TIEs? Not sure why it would ever be advantageous to have your ships doxked rather than fighting. The Phantom becomes two extra attacks while docked. Why would I dock my TIEs? Discounted squad points maybe? I can't think of another good reason.

maybe they won't get one shot by hlcs en route :P ?

Getting them in close range quickly.

I don't know how fast the Gozanti can move, but if you can also deploy 2 TIE fighters out the front of the ship, that's a really long way to go very quickly.

Also protection.

So, the Gozanti Cruiser has no main weapons and only has one Hardpoint? So, it can only get one weapon on it's own? That's kind of annoying. I guess you really need the Tie Fighters to give it some teeth! Either that or take the Ion Battery each time.

A little premature to say that - the GR-75 has no weapons at all but has all manner of devious tricks up its sleeve

I'm picking up at least one of these babies. At LEAST one.

Also, considering huge ships move last you deploy your PS1 academy pilots after VI Wedge.

This ship will be my first Huge ship purchase.

I've wanted this ship for a while, and the fact it can actually carry its TIE fighters makes it even sweeter. Plus, thos eblue paint-schemes, always thought they were the nicer looking ones, definite must-buy for me.

...oh, I am in love.

I love that they scaled it so you can actually attach the TIE fighters to it. That's sheer genius, and it makes me very happy.

Same! Not only is it big enough to take the TIEs, but it's to the same scale as all the non-Epic ships. I think I might actually have my Gozanti out on display when it arrives next year.

Interesting that the entire bottom row of upgrades appear to be modifications or titles...

I really, really, REALLY want to see some pictures of this bad boy with the TIEs attached...

Will be interesting to see if this gets any kind of Jamming package for the cost, though 46 points for an Ion Battery support variant seems like it should be pretty swell.

Alas, still no Thrawn. :(

I'm more interested in putting this guy in a TIE Phantom

Its brutally effective and lore fitting, I like it!

Agent Kallus is my new favorite officer I think...

Anyone remember the siege weapons from age of empires 2? Often they could hold a handful of units inside. Since they were hard to kill by enemy towers they were a great way to get your troops close to the base without getting picked off on the way. I'm thinking that will be the benefit of the gonzati.

Oh yeah nevermind I zoomed in on a higher quality screen. Couldn't see any of the symbols.

Functionally, it's just about transport. Tie Fighters don't have jump drives. They need to be carried around on a ship that does. The Gozanti does that. It carries Tie Fighters with it when it jumps. I don't think there is any strategic reason why you would keep the Tie Fighters strapped in. I think it's more scenario driven. Maybe you just jump in and then have to detach to get into the action. Or maybe you are fleeing and you need to re-attach or else you lose your ride out of there.

I think the advantage would be is it would allow certain named pilots to get across the battle field without being focused down by the oppoisng persons battleship. Howlrunner and Interceptor Aces for example would be a couple of examples of good ships to have in a epic list; but could potentially get one shotted early on (less so the interceptor, but it needs to make it to combat first before it starts earning points, even a single wound decreases it's chances of surviving the early game crash.

My 6 TIEs will become 8.

But then...what will carry the other 4 TIEs...

You'll have to buy a 2nd one to carry them. Only...then you'll have 10 TIEs!

The only solution is to buy a 3rd one, to carry all 12 of the TIEs you'll have then. Plus, you'll have a full squadron! It's perfect!

My 7 will become 9...

Looking forward to this; kind of a fan of Star Wars Rebels, so I hope the campaign features similar clashes :)

I'm excited by detachable docking pegs, but disappointed there's no jam action. :(
I just want to run an electronic warfare list! (PS: Give us the TIE Bomber EW)

I like how you think.

:)

Ooh. If only you could actually field triple Gozantis in an Epic squadron! That would be honestly pretty sweet. I almost hope there's a title that lets 'em jury-rig the formation into the Epic format - it's beautiful .

Man, this thing cant get here fast enough, I'm pretty excited but simultaneously bummed. With luck it will be available at Gen con next year.

THIS time I think we might just get these new goodies for Christmas...

^_^

Chris seemed like he was kinda pretty sure that maybe it would be on time.

I am **** sure buying everything whenever it is in the shops.

What on earth gives you that idea? They said these "might" get here in quarter 1 of next year.

Wave 7 and the raider should arrive this month, and they said episode vii stuff is already on a boat (actual quote was "on the water").

Unless you mean we might get wave 8 and the gozanti for Christmas 2016.

I KNOW WHAT WAS SAID. Chris seemed to think they might be on time. Then he smiled and said that IF they are in early 2016 to please not get mad at them.

Why? Because once these goodies get on the water the situation is completely out of FFG's hands.

;)
