As far as I can tell, the final version of the ship comes with 1 huge stand base. A first for large ships.

I don't think so. At least, the picture in the announcement article looks like the peg from the GenCon display.

The tell is the orientation of the slots for the ID tombstones. On huge ship bases, like on normal ones, those slots are oriented front and back. On the Ghost's peg in both the GenCon photos and in the official article they are on the left and right sides of the peg. Additionally, in the group shot of the wave 8 ships you can still see the place where the stand forks.

I think maybe this was intentional for balance reasons. Makes me think the dial's going to be decent, not to mention the four dice primary.
