Most interesting thing from in-flight report: Episode VII stuff before Wave 8

By xanderf, in X-Wing

New tie. New x-wing. New damage deck.

So without watching the video, does he actually say it's product for x-wing, or just product? Since they do have multiple sw games that it could apply to besides x-wing, or could even be some new game for the movie.

He doesn't say, specifically.

However, 'product on the water' NOW means something that arrives between waves 7 and 8 of X-Wing. And then we've got those three skipped X-Wing product codes between waves 7 and 8, so...

2 + 2 = ?

At 37:00 he has just finished Wave VIII and says, "X-Wing, wow. Let's move on." Then he hits the slide and realizes there is another X-Wing slide and says "And there it is again. Wave VIII. I think I say early 2016 here. We are hoping to get it out at the end of the year, but you have to forgive us if we may get it slightly late. There's some other important stuff going on that we're dealing with with the factory that I can't tell you about today." [Pause for effect.] "So therefore I'm going to be talking about some new games."

Then he goes on to talk about Fury of Dracula, Warhammer Quest, and Runebound.

At 41:36 he starts talking about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. "Some of this stuff is coming. I wish I did not have to [believe he's referring to only being able to tease about the product]... but we have product on the water. It's coming. And you will know when it hits. That's all I can say."

So it's not in the section about X-Wing. It's clearly a stand-alone discussion of Force Awakens product. But it could be any of their Star Wars lines... or new games entirely.

It COULD be something besides X-Wing, but unless Disney just flatout refused to let them use TFA products for X-wing why wouldn't they have Ep 7 stuff? It's like free money.

2 ships? But we have 3 factions and a Vaksai art for Alex Davy's article.

But it kinda breaks the balance, unless they are on the same power level. Or is the Vaksai cheaper than the Kiraxhz?

We also have only 3 product codes. It could work if the Vaksai was just a new sculpt of the Kiraxhz, then it doesn't need another expansion pack, it just gets new pilots.

The 'new' TIE Fighter might have the same stats as the original. The standard TIE doesn't really need an upgrade, just a new paint job.

The three codes could be: starter 2.0 with repainted TIE, T-70 X-Wing, and some Scum fighter; T-70 standalone pack, Scum fighter standalone pack.

It would seem like an odd choice to make a new starter box that ignores one of the three factions entirely.

I wonder if we will see a "scum" worthy ship in the movie

This may be why Wave 8 has two Scum ships despite them being caught up to the other factions.

What i meant was a new starter set with a Vaksai sculpt of the Kiraxz (but still counting as a Kiraxz), a T-70 and a First Order Tie (the one with the turret). The fact that the TIE Fighter needs/does not need a boost is irrelevant, it will get new pilots with the Assault Carrier anyway. Episode VII is bringing a new TIE, a Core set featuring a T-70 will surely have that one as well. So that's pack #1, with 3 ~20pts ships. Pack#2 and #3 would be expansion packs for the TIE and for the T-70, since 2 extra unique pilots already exist for the Kiraxz.

As you can see my option for the new Core Set (which is speculation, obviously), does not ignore the Scum faction in any way.

I keep seeing this, and I'm very confused. Someone is doing the math wrong, and I cannot for the life of me find where I am wrong, but with so many people saying it...

Wave 6 gave us 7 Scum ships (3 Unique expansions plus 4 shared with other factions via Most wanted), and Wave 7 added 2. As of wave 5, The rebels and imperials had 9 ships (2 from each of the first four waves and 1 each from wave 5), and each got one ship in Wave 7. That gives us 10 Rebel and Imperial ships and 9 Scum Ships. Wave 8 would bring them to 11 Scum, 11 Imperial, and 11.5 Rebel (The Phantom feels like half a ship to me for some reason).

It remains to be seen if scum will get a ship with the Episode VII X-wing stuff. If they do, I suspect it will be a brand new ship, since sticking some obscure SWG fighter alongside two high profile new ships makes little sense. It seems more likely, though, that FFG will just release Resistance+New Order ships, and have another wave of 2 Scum-1 Imperial/ New Order-1 Rebel/Resistance

It COULD be something besides X-Wing, but unless Disney just flatout refused to let them use TFA products for X-wing why wouldn't they have Ep 7 stuff? It's like free money.

That, and we know there are three X-Wing products coming before wave 8 that are not yet announced, due to the skipped SKUs.

Again, this is pretty basic stuff. X-Wing is definitely getting Episode VII ships, that's for 100% sure.

I'm just quoting this because you're not wrong. I can't figure out why people can't math either.

Yeah, that's the math I get. The factions are now basically equal in ships, except scum lack 2 huge ships.

Going forward, unless Force Awakens stuff screws it up, I would expect 3 ship waves. One for each faction.

As others have said, I would honestly bank on a starter with T70s (plus some kind of X Wing buff) and normal (same stats, non turreted) New Order TIEs, since we are ALREADY getting new TIE content with the Gozanti. The other two would likely be the T70 (plus T65 buffs) and Special Forces TIE with the turret, both things old players would want (who's going to buy repainted TIEs when they're already getting two in a few more months?...probably all of us but we can't admit it).

Alternatively the new starter could be something completely different that doesn't follow the GCW starter pattern. Maybe a single ship for each faction (since the Special Forces TIE might be more on par with the X Wing points wise) and more dice or a cheaper MSRP. Hell, maybe a third 'neutral' or three faction ship that could double as an objective (in the trailer, the uber-shuttle is escorted by four small square-bodied things).

We've been surprised before.

I wonder if we will see a "scum" worthy ship in the movie

yeah its called the millennium falcon!!

Maz Kanata will probably be one of the scum crew/pilots for the movie-expansions and I assume it will be the new x-wings and TIEs as new ships for rebel and empire (i.e. not only more pilot cards for the old ones)

Given we had 'Scum'-worthy ship pretty much straight from the first movie, and by the second movie a ship the Scum faction actually GOT...but FFG released as 'Imperial' first...

I think it's safe to say, when push comes to shove, FFG does Rebels and Empire first to get out the iconic craft, and shelves Scum until ALL the major Rebel and Imperial ships are out.

IE., there are no Scum ships in the Episode VII products we get this year.

As has been stated, new Ep. VII TIE and X-Wing expansions, and a new sort of starter set would make sense the most. And they WILL be basic x-wings and ties fighters in my opinion.

I know a lot of people look at the Imperial Assault Carrier expansion and say "Well, the imperial set is coming out with a ton of tie fighters now as is, so it will need to be a new and different tie then the basic tie fighter." - I disagree. I think they are totally fine having 10+ named Tie Fighters and X-wings, because when it comes down to it, that's what the star wars universe SHOULD be. X-wings and tie fighters have always been the main ships for the universe.

New tie. New x-wing. New damage deck.

Wow. Interesting thought! Alex has agreed that the damage deck does seem a bit dated, and they would like to revisit it, but he didn't sound very enthused, or at least didn't offer much more comment than that. I wonder if it's because these questions hit home about the Episode VII stuff that had to be kept tightly under wraps. Maybe there is room for a core set after all. A new damage deck would be incredible!

You'd have to be given the option to field either as only 1 core set is required to play. You'd then choose whichever deck is less detrimental to your specific list. Unless you and your opponent provide the deck for each other in a match. Then I'd bring whichever deck is worse for Corran.

True. Alex's misgivings may have more to do with the nightmare of implementing a new damage deck, rather than a matter of confidentiality for an impending product. I don't care how they implement a new damage deck, but I'd be willing to pay for one.

You'd have to be given the option to field either as only 1 core set is required to play.

That doesn't work for tournaments though. There's no way they're going to let people pick which damage deck to use for tournaments.

Could they also release it as a srand alone purchase and give a "expiration date" for the old deck. Essentially buy your new deck before this date if you want to compete.

I think there is too much of the game balanced around the contents of the current deck to make any real changes to it.

That goes completely against all of FFG's prior philosophies on their Core Sets.

And this.

Guys really need to get off this idea of a 'second core set' thing.

Ain't gonna happen. Nor any new damage deck for 'standard' ships. Nor any new maneuver templates for 'standard' ships. etc.

Yeah as I said else where... If there is a new core set and I find that at best to be questionable.

The only thing it would offer is new ships and cards. It would also I assume have a rule book with the errata included in it. But don't expect the FAQ to be made part of it.

The idea of new damage decks, new dice types, new template types, ect... is pretty far fetched.
