Most interesting thing from in-flight report: Episode VII stuff before Wave 8

By xanderf, in X-Wing

So if we are waiting for wave seven to arrive soon~ish and wave 8 will be out in all its glory sometime next year, what will the episode VII sruff be?

So there will be episode vii products before the other stuff, but the other stuff was specifically identified as wave 8.

So the stuff for the new movie is NOT going to be a "wave", but some other kind of release.

Aces pack?

Separate but compatible game?

Second edition starter set?

Something else?

I can just about guarantee it's not a new 'starter' set. What would be the point?

The point is that new people who are looking specifically for "Force Awakens" products are much more likely to buy into the game if it is marketed as a separate entity, even if it is 100% compatible with current X-Wing.

It also allows FFG to firewall the Ep7 stuff. Just in case it crash and burns, the original X-Wing brand is isolated from the tainted Sequel Trilogy.

Guys what if it's X-Wing 2nd edition?

Guys what if it's X-Wing 2nd edition?

It very well could be, in my opinion.

Bring all these disparate rules back into the main rule book, for one.

Given you managed to find the product numbers for it, and they are simply in series with everything else we have, I'd say that's one thing we can DEFINITELY cross off the list.

I think we're going to see X-Wing at Walmart this Christmas season.

Probably true: the newly announced 2nd edition of the Game of Thrones LCG is called "GT01". The 1st edition is called "GOT36"

Guys what if it's X-Wing 2nd edition?

Highly doubt it, considering today's glorious announcements it's either a stand alone or just more expansions

One new ship for each faction.

I would also say no new edition just new ships from the new movie based on this evidence.

What are the odds of Wave 7 getting here before September 4th?

New Starter makes a ton of sense. New rule-book that brings all the rules from the FAQ together to clarify them, new versions of TF and X-Wing, Poe Dameron as the ace pilot for the X-Wing. It makes good sense.

First Order Special Forces TIE

I would guess the reference is actually to a completely new game or games rather than expansions for X-Wing.

BUT -- if FFG is going to sneak in Episode VII stuff into the X-Wing line between now and Wave 8 -- I think it is more likely to be a starter set than any kind of expansion, including an Aces pack.

Guys, a broad spectrum of people are going to lose their ever-loving minds when it comes to Force Awakens merch. People who barely know about tabletop gaming will be buying this stuff. It does not make any sense to make an expansion product for that market. They need a starter set.

If they were going to do a new starter pack, it'd be one of the release numbers. So to buy into the hype, it'd be one for the set, then maybe one for the new X-Wing, and one for the new TIE fighter, each released as Wave I (Part 2) add-ons.

Agreed.

And if the starter set has new models, they need to be able to be purchased individually as well...

What are the odds of Wave 7 getting here before September 4th?

If his quote about SW36, SW37, and SW38 means what we are taking it to mean...I'd say odds are very good. If not ON that date, certainly shortly enough afterwards that they can at least announce it, then.

No, WAVE 7. Do you think it'll be released before this Ep 7 stuff?

Except there are two new TIEs ... a generic and the Special Forces (which is being promoted heavily in the toy line) ... if the starter has two generics then the Special Forces TIE would be available separately much as the Advanced was in wave 1.

Oh, right, 'wave 7' not 'episode 7'...LOL

Yeah, given that GenCon was fully stocked with wave 7 items and the Imperial Raider, I'd say wave 7 is basically already here. Just waiting to get through the distribution channels and whatnot.

So 3 sets:

A Scum and villany kind of box. Two normal New Order Ties and a T-70 X-wing.

A special Forces Tie

Kylo Ren's/ First Order Landing ship.

That would be a huge box, a huge ship and a small ship, and cover the ships we know for now.
