IMO there are too many ways to build around the damage deck atm. Many valuable upgrade types have been created since Wave 1. I personally have felt that we've needed a new damage deck for some time, and this would be the perfect avenue to release it. I'm not 100% confident it will happen, but I think it is a strong possibility. I'd say we need a deck that stays more relevant to all builds more often, and that includes cards that mess with upgrades that didn't exist. For example, I think the possibility of the loss of a crew member might affect players' desires to field big, crew dependent turrets all the time. Considering how many complaints I see about the Fat Turret meta, I'd say that adding a card that can affect your crew members would be a great idea. There are also cards like Weapon Malfunction that some Meta Powerhouses like Dash don't much care about. The opposite being Munitions Failure, which does nothing to those Falcons and Decimators. What if we had a deck that included cards that could always affect your ship, no matter the build?
Again, just my two cents. I'd say we've needed it for some time, but it's difficult to call if it will happen or not. It definitely would supplant their previous promises that we wouldn't get releases that replace anything. In fact, if they did something like "X-Wing Second Edition" and removed a lot of the things that I have paid for, I might drop out of the competitive space altogether. But a new core set and a second edition ARE NOT one in the same. They could release a new box that included the updated rules (errata/FAQ), new content for our X-wings and/or other ships, and all of the accouterments that you need to play the game, to create a new jumping-on point for newer players.
I am 100% in support of a new damage deck. I am 0% in support of erasing any other content from the game.
