Some Nature's Ire Questions

By Omnislash024, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Alright so a few questions regarding Nature's Ire.

Exploration card is the Rocky Path. Now it says that a failed attribute test moves you to the previous space you moved from. A few questions on that.

1) What if you moved from a space already containing a figure?

2) If you moved to second square on the Path and you fail, do you test the attribute again when your figure returns to the previous spot on the Rocky Path? If not where do they go?

I am wondering if this effect can endlessly chain.

Secondly: There is a peril card that makes so a Knowledge Check. Then it says to discard a Search card if you fail. I don't really know if I "bent" the rules a bit, but it never mentioned the search cards didn't have to be flipped over, so I discarded used items. Allowed?

I need to check the cards, but I think you may have to return to the last empty space you were in. I do not think the effect chains (you don't need to test again after failing and being moved once.)

Does the effect say "move" to the previous spot, or "place" on the previous spot?

Because it sounds to me like it's the same issue as the Overrun (sp?) lieutenant power.

So I don't think it would endlessly chain, as the ruling on Overrun was that it couldn't chain either.

I'm not sure what the exact text is- I'll check my cards when I get home later today.

The text says Enter.

The text says Enter.

As in, you must test when you enter? What about what happens when you fail? Are you removed and placed, returned, etc to your previous spot?

That's what I'm saying. It says Enter. So if you go to a second square from a square on the tile and fail, when you go to your previous spot, you have to test again. From the wording, it just seems like it could be endless.

Interesting. I'll double check my card when I get home, but that's almost certainly an FFG question, since I doubt it's supposed to be a loop. One reason I think this (other than the previous rulings about looped effects) is this little bit from page 10 of the rules:

The rules of an encounter affect the whole map unless otherwise stated.

Depending on what it actually says on the card, that might mean that a hero could potentially get backtracked all the way to the beginning of the game.

Nah, I think it only pertains to squares on the Actual Rocky corridor Tile.

So, here is the text of the card. I added capitalization:

Each time he enters a space on the rocky channel, he must test awareness or might. If he fails, he suffers 2 damage and RETURNS to his previous space. IF THE SPACE HE RETURNS TO IS OCCUPIED, PLACE THE OCCUPYING FIGURE ON THE CLOSEST SPACE NOT ON THE ROCKY CHANNEL.

The only question is whether "returning" to a space is actually entering a space. I would assume it is.

Thanks. So that answers part of it. The question still remains... you enter second space, fail. Go back to previous space. Fail. and can keep going endlessly till you get Koed.
