It isn't dead.

Welp... Big Box then. Explains Jain and Trenloe. That means 4 new heroes and classes. 4 new Lieuts?

...I can afford to wait cause I still need to get more expansions but, knowing FF it won't really take long for them to get this out.

If all those figures are lieutenants, and seems so, of course it's a big box. Yay! :D

The three lieutenants are in packs to be sold separately, so it still could be a 'medium' box.

Okay, I'm definitely excited now. We're finally getting a Reanimate miniature too!

That bone horror looks awesome! I'm glad this has been announced. Waiting for the release date.

EDIT: 4th quarter 2015. Awesome.

Here are the Lieutenants: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2015/8/1/lurking-in-the-mists/

The only thing I have to say is that it looks really interesting. I'm kinda down that there isn't any new classes, but they make up for it in some nasty looking bad guys. Can't wait to get a Bone Horror!

I wonder if you can substitute a Re-animate for the Necromancer's familiar token?

What do you think this "one-act campaign" will look like?

Do you guys think it will all be Act I or all Act II (would definitly be interesting to start with Act II)?

Will this " full, one-act campaign" be really a full campaign featuring 9 quests or will it be more like the 4 quest mini-campaigns?

Will we get 4 Act I quests we play through chronologically (like a mini-campaign, just without the act II finale)? Will there be more quests to choose from, or will this even be a full 9 quest campaign with similarly many quests to choose from as any campaign before, set just in Act II?

I'm really curious how this is going to be structured and am excited to see a new campaign-structure. I really hope it brings a new playstyle to Descent 2ed and isn't just a fancy word for something like a 3 quest mini-campaign set all in act I.

The other thing that got me wondering is if there is anything new for the OL in there that can be used in every campaign (the tainted cards seem to be only usable in the mists campaign).

The monsters look extremely cool and there are even 3 new groups, which means it's right between a small and big box expansion. The reanimates seem to be the second monster with a "swarm" ability and seeing how they cut back the 9 Kobold blocking strategy, I'm wondering if there is a similar twist to the 6 reanimates. Broodwalkers that lay there eggs in fresh meat and maybe can come back without the need to reinforce? color me interested.

Great looking lieutenants, classic undead monsters and a weird decision about not adding so many missing heroes.

Although it seems so i really hope this is not going to replace the last 2 HnM packs of 2015.

The "missing" heroes from first edition have never been added in boxed expansions- they've only ever been included in separate hero and monster packs. I agree that the LT's look cool. I am especially looking forward to having reanimates. In quests where you're not using that monster group you could probably use it as a substitute for the familiar token, but that would not be a good solution for when you're using both at the same time.

I'm a bit deceived this expansion specialise on undead (and waiqar) and not on the Uthuk :(

Since I'm quite new to Descent, I haven't even purchased a single expansion.

This news still really excites me though as with the release of IA, I was wondering how many more releases we'd see for Descent.

Seems like the game is very well developed at this point. I'm really digging some of those Lt Minis.

This seems like the perfect set to pick up to add some flavor to the base campaign.

Based on the announcement, it looks like the aspects of this expansion that will translate to the base game (shadow rune campaign) are the monsters and the new condition. If there are shop cards included, those would translate as well. So far we haven't heard anything about rumor cards, and without them the LTs and map tiles wouldn't cross over. It sounds like the tainted cards are elements of the quests in this campaign, so they also probably wouldn't affect other campaigns.

I am in no way saying that this expansion won't add to your collection (I am definitely planning on picking it up) but there might be a better choice for a first expansion if what you're looking for is flavor for the shadow rune campaign. For example, Trollfens, Lair of the Wyrm, and Manor of Ravens include rumor cards which allow their mini campaign quests to be played as part of a full campaign, along with shop cards, hero classes in addition to the new monster groups, and a new condition. They also each contain an OL deck (something else not mentioned in the announcement.) The previously released big boxes also feature OL decks and more heroes/classes. As a compliment to the base game, I am partial to "Labyrinth of Ruin" for the new basic 2 OL deck.

In any case, Mists of Bilehall looks like it has a lot of quality content- but not the type of content designed to integrate heavily into the base game, but rather will provide an additional adventure of its own with a distinct thematic twist.

Appreciate the observations and words. I concur.

Without a doubt, I'm getting LOTW first, as I need it for the co-op xpansions. (I play those the most)

I'm kinda thinking that they may not be cross compatible, with the way the taint cards for, in this specific quest.

I do think it's interesting that they would openly state that this xpac is meant to boost the OL. But have most of those new elements introduced be entirely separate from the Base set.

Malev

It doesn't seem all that strange to me- if your hero group is constantly destroying the OL, running through Mists of Bilehall might level the playing field. If the heroes are looking for a challenge, I bet this will provide one.

It's not that the expansion is totally separate from the base set- it's just that several of its new mechanics are- but that is nothing new- you won't find portcullises and influence effects anywhere but Nerekhall, for example.

Additionally, most of what crosses over looks to help the OL anyway- bone horrors look to be really formidable monsters- give "Lash" a closer read - if can place the target within 2 spaces of it's monster figure , not the target's original space. Combined with "Extend," that means the master bone horror can potentially toss a hero 5 spaces .
