Quick Rules question: More dodges then Pierce

By zhentil, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Okay so we were playing a game. My friend had 3 damage on me and one surge. He used that Surge to do pierced 2. Now i rolled 3 dodges.

1st. Would i only take 2 damage or 3

2nd. with Pierce do you just ignore the dodges meaning they didn't even happen or just that no matter what pierce damage gets through and you can use your dodges on any other hits.

make sense

Do you mean block instead of dodge? Block are the triangles that block damage.

If he rolled 3 damage and had pierce 2, and you rolled 3 block, his two pierce would ignore two of your blocks, leaving you with one block left. 3 damage v 1 block means you take 2 damage.

Pierce essentially means those block results don't exist anymore if I'm not mistaken.

RRG p. 20 under Pierce

"This keyword allows a figure to ignore a number of (block) results while attacking. For example, “Pierce 2” allows an attack to ignore up to 2 (block) results."

You got it RogueLieutenant!

yes i mean blocks, but thank you guys. We just have a rules lawyer and after thinking about something for too long you end thinking stupid things lol. Like pierce just blows someone up and blocks are the square things you build with lol.

If it helps the terminology goes like this:

1 Block cancels 1 Hit

1 Pierce ignores 1 Block

1 Evades cancels 1 Surges

1 Dodge cancels all attack results (except for effects beneficial to the attacker, such as spending a surge for Recover or Focus )

Yep, it says in the RRG on page 9 under Conditions that: "The target of the attack must suffer one or more (damage) for the condition to apply."

There is no distinction between beneficial or harmful effects except that beneficial ones are applied to the attacker after the attack.

Right, I just checked it. For Focus to trigger you need to deal damage, but Recover works even on a miss (RRG pg. 22).
