Colorblind: Struggling to tell the difference between black/red

By Amraam01, in Star Wars: Armada

Anyone have a good solution aesthetic solution for the cards? Use a yellow highlighter to dab on all of the cards with the red dice?

I don't know if this is any help, but the colours can be replaced by armament symbols.

The FFG produced plastic range ruler that is a Nationals prize has replaced colours with the upgrade symbols...

You can see a photo of this ruler in the first post of Jugger's Gen Con Pictures thread (https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/183621-juggers-gen-con-pictures/page-1)

"Missile" for Black

"Ion Cannon" for Blue

"Turbo Laser" for Red

If you are looking at a weaponry upgrade, then the icon will tell you which colour dice it is affecting.

Maybe you could copy/print the symbols and attach them to your range ruler?

Very few ships currently use Black dice, so perhaps just writing out their armaments for reference would suffice? The sheet of paper listing VSD-I and Gladiator stats wouldn't be too big.

For squadrons, it is currently very simple: basic X-wings are the only squadrons to roll red dice, so everything else is black.

These solutions may grow more unwieldy as the game grows, but it does offer you a usable reference for your opponent's ships as well. While you can mark your own cards with highlighter no problem, if you're ever playing with someone else you may struggle to tell what their dice are.

and B-wings have Blue+Black battery dice

I have that exact same issue.

I made a post on boardgamegeek on this topic and there were some good suggestions. I haven't followed through with any of the suggestions yet as Armada hasn't had a ton of table time for me.

But here is a link for to the BGG post: https://boardgamegeek.com/article/19340995#19340995

Hope it helps.

Can These Glasses Really Fix Color Blindness? We Put Them To The Test

A confession: I am color blind.

It’s not that I can’t see any colors—I had actually lived most of my life without being a bit aware of my condition—but when I’m presented with one of those tests where a jumble of different colored dots supposedly spell out a specific number, I’m usually stumped. According to one such test, I likely have “mild deuteranomaly”—a form of color blindness that mostly interferes with my ability to detect various shades of red and green, and impacts around 6% of the male population. If you click this page and scroll down to the side-by-side picture of a photo and how it would look to somebody with “deuteranopic vision,” they look almost indistinguishable to me.

So when I stumbled upon EnChroma, a brand of glasses that purports to correct for some forms of mild colorblindness, I was interested in seeing what I’d been missing

Maybe you can look into something like this? It's not cheap, but a possible choice for more than just armada....

Yes? I don't believe the OP has difficulty distinguishing between Black and Blue. All squadron dice are either black or blue, except the one anti-ship die on the basic X-Wing.

maybe reference cards?

print out on a bit of index something like

VSD-1

Front: 3 R, 3 B

Side: 2 R, 1 B

Rear: 2 R

Anti-squadron: 1 bl

VSD-1

Front: 3 R, 3 bl

Side: 2 R, 1 bl

Rear: 2 R

Anti-squadron: 1 bl

though I think maxam's suggestion about using the icons instead would be more effective (stupid blue and black dice)

Actually Red and black, I just hate the idea of marking up my ship and squad cards.

I dont have a solution for you though I am sorry though, that really sucks.

I've got the same issue... Color blind as hell:). I just remember what does what, or I ask the guy next to me:)
