Some stuff about the Pup

By WWHSD, in X-Wing Rules Questions

These are the deployment instructions for the Pup:

From reading that and applying existing rules, I think the following is all true:

1. If the Pup deploys with a K-Turn it does not receive a stress as there is no Check for Stress step in the deployment instructions. <it looks like the K-Turn puts you in the same spot and facing as the 3 straight would>

2. Even though it is the same pilot that was in the Yv-666, the Pup is able to take any action on its bar regardless of what action the YV-666 took earlier in the round since it is a different ship.

3. In the case of simultaneous fire, the Pup is not deployed until after the YV-666 has had a chance to attack.

I would say on count number one that you are wrong, just my opinion but here is my thinking. In the rules above it says, "If the Nantash Pup has not overlapped an obstacle or another ship and is not stressed it may perform one action. It seems to me that the only way this ship could get a stress token during deployment would be to k-turn. I know this goes into the realm of read as intended, but it seems logical to me. It clearly states that this is a maneuver, so we should use all applicable rules for one. Also, if we followed your logic, you would have to leave your movement template on the table until the end of the game, because there is no clean up step written down here.

Your second point is probably correct. The ship actually takes the action, not the pilot, and the rules state that a ship cannot perform and action more than once. The Nantash is a new ship and therefore has taken no actions.

Your third point is also correct. The pup isn't deployed until after the yv666 has taken it final shot.

This is a longstanding issue with how the rules work but WWHSD's interpretation is correct within the context of current ruling. See the FAQ entry for... Blast, I can't remember which TIE pilot's FAQ entry covers this. Someone? Anyway, read that FAQ entry, once someone tells us which it is, then you can go "huh?" With the rest of us.

It really wouldn't surprise me Forgottenlore lol. If its so, I will stand corrected, and go "huh?"

Thank you.

I'm certain we'll get a FAQ on red maneuvers and stress since the SLAM action allows a K-Wing to perform maneuvers after the Check for Stress step. While the K-Wing has no red maneuvers on its dial the Damaged Engine crit would make its 2 turn red.

It appears to me that because you are choosing a maneuver from the dial, then executing it, it seems to be kicking off it's own little out of sequence activation phase (and all the steps within it), which is happening during the combat phase. They seem to have covered it's deployment fairly well, but once again have left it wide open for more than a few questions. Without a doubt there will be either a large FAQ entry or many smaller ones.
