Need some Rebel help for list for my first tournament

By KomS0Mol, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi there! I'm started to play not so long ago and need some advice on my list that i have flight for some time now.

Tycho

A-wing Test Pilot

VI+PTL

PRockets

Autothrusters

Jake

A-wing Test Pilot

VI+PTL

PRockets

Autothrusters

Arvel

A-wing Test Pilot

Intimidate

PRockets

Stealth Device

99 pts

I really like A-wing so I want to fly it alot. Plan is pretty simple - in current PS6+ meta Arvel goes first and trying to hug everyone. And shoot with 3 dice too. Blocking with him prevent some nasty IGs, Dashes and Soontirs to get their annoying actions. Then Jake and Tycho flying out of enemy arcs and trying to get some shots. It's alot of fun to play this list but I haven't much time for practice. Now I'm thinking to replace Arvel with Knave Squadron Pilot + R2-D2. It's a PS1 move and he have a barrel roll so blocking must be easier. Also 3 red dice is more than 2. And obviously regen.

So my experienced comrades can you share some useful advice? I'll be greatful.

Hmz, I'd drop the SD off of Arvel, replace it with another Autothruster.

Stealth Device isn't going to help you out all that much after all.

With the point left over and the point freed up by that, upgrade VI on Tycho to Daredevil.

I would just plain drop Arvel...

if you truly want to fly 3 Awings in a tournament (not advisable but this is a game and games are supposed to be fun so fly what you want) then instead of Arvel (who has one of the games WORST abilities) Id go with:

gemmer+title+PTL+prockets+thrusters=30

OR

Green+PTL+Daredevil+prockets+thrusters=30

Daredevil REALLY works for an awing. Makes them tokyo drift fast and furious style which is great for prockets.

I would also put DD on Tycho with PTL and EI instead of thrusters its great fun and makes him the best arc dodger in the game

-my two cents...

...but still wouldnt run three awings in a tourney

Arvel is going to ram enemies. If he want to shoot - and he is - he will do it right into the face. So Autothrusters won't work at all. Arvel really need something to survive first 2-3 turns to get some hugs and SD is pretty useful. Even if it work just once, it's already like a 1-point-cheaper Shield Upgrade.

Tycho really need that PS10 because of Horns, RACs and Fels. I run him without it and the difference between PS8 Tycho and PS10 Tycho is massive. I know DD may be very nice but i'm not ready to trade strategical ability to move last for it.

I really like Arvel. Do you ever take 5-dice focused attack right into the face then you can't shoot back at all? Or even 3-dice attack? It's great. Intimidation on him - just a brilliant (if you can guess enemy maneuvers). Blocked intimidated Soontir is very sad. And Corran too. And Han (he roll no green dice so no 3PO). And many others. And Arvel just shoots.

"No 3 A-wings" - yeah I know. "Just take Super Dash or Deci-Fel or Brobots or something else". I know it too. But what's the point to play with another people lists? Especially if I dislike YT-2400 or Empire.

but do you actually have experience using Arvel like that??? It sone thing to look at intimidation and Arvel and think "thats a great combo", and on paper it is. It is incredibly difficult especially at his midling PS to ram people

Yes I have. It's very agressive style to fly directly at enemy. Exactly at his mid PS he can move to the high-PS pilot's way and... BOOM! Large base ships are pretty easy to catch. So those stress-likers like Soontir or other PTL-abusers. Focused Arvel is ready to hug them.

Ok well...good luck with that

And getting agressivly shot out of the sky?

1. Arvel got no autos that makes him nr 1 target due to being easier to kill.

2. Any semi decent player that will catch that You gonna abuse arvel ability gonna shoot him even faster.

3. Any Awing flying directly at at enemy is free points. They arent called arc dodgers for no reason.

4. You are tunnel visioning. I had this once with Qicunn deci, loaded it up with full ramming setup, and i was so focused od ramming that deci was usually down by turn 4. Arvel ability is nice bonus if you can pull it safely, but dont tunnel vision on it.

1. I know it. You definitely right.

2. It means he won't shoot real threats.

3. You right again. When fighting 2-ship build I'm trying to set in range 3 for first shots to get 4 green dice with AT and Evade. 2nd turn we're already close enough to block/Procket them. Playing against other lists not so straight of course.

4. Thanks for advice. Couple of times I lost game then I trying to abuse Arvel's ability.
