Room for improvement with this Leebo/Chewie (Sword & Shield) list?

By SentinelJP, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

I've been playing around with the following list just for fun at our FLGS but I'm wondering if it could be a contender for future tournaments?

Seeking the advice of my fellow players here, what would you do to improve this list to make it more competitive?

Leebo (34)

Outrider Title (5)

Mangler Cannon (4)

Push the Limit (3)

46 Points

Chewbacca (42)

Millennium Falcon Title (1)

C-3PO (3)

Lando Calrissian (3)

Experimental Interface (3)

Lone Wolf (2)

54 Points

Total = 100 Points

One alternative I've been thinking of is replacing the Mangler Cannon and PtL with the HLC on Leebo, but feel it weakens him somewhat and lessens his options.

I'm referring to this list as my Sword & Shield list, Leebo being the sword, dealing the damage, while Chewie acts as the shield, soaking it up.

Looking forward to your input! :-)

Thanks!

what would you do if your opponent won't be so stupid to chase uncatchable Chewie and will go after Leebo from the start of the game? if you take Lone Wolf you plan to stay away from each other. or it's an investment in late game?

id say chewie is virtually unkillable with ur current loadout if u can keep him from getting hit by 6dice or more each turn, two 3 atk dice ships wont be enough. HLC is going to dent you but not if they only get in the single shot. Id say even IG88B with HLC would be struggling on its own. i like boost on chewie and that would give you good range control and some arc dodging (but who needs to dodge when u have that much damage mitigation right?). what do u PTL for on Leebo? focus + TL? evade+focus? at a glance i think that could be something else. Predator? seems like a nice option pairing Predator with Mangler Cannon.

I would change that mangler to HLC.

Why?

Cause you gonna try to fly as away from enemy with outrider anyway, while you gonna force chewie into range 1. Cause if you keep them together every1 gonna ignore chewie and go for leebo anyway. That way you literally stuck walking carpet into their faces and pounder with hlc from safe distance, and they can't ignore r1 4dice chewie forever.

Other than that i like this list very very much. I look at this chewie and...my god...

Leebo really wants determination

I'm toying with a very similar list.

In this version, Chewie is looking at a handful of focus/evade tokens every turn. Be warned, extra stress will ruin his day pretty fast, as will blocking and Carnor Jax.

Chewbacca (42)
Calculation (1)
Kyle Katarn (3)
Lando Calrissian (3)
Experimental Interface (3)
Millennium Falcon (1)

"Leebo" (34)
Determination (1)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Outrider (5)

Total: 100

A local play regularly runs the below load out and took regionals here easily (vs both other turrents and in the final BBBBZ)

Chewbacca (42)
Predator (3)
C-3PO (3)
Recon Specialist (3)
Millennium Falcon (1)
"Leebo" (34)
Predator (3)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Jan Ors (2)
Outrider (5)
Total: 100

He tried out Lando however he found it too unreliable to regularly use.

Leebo should always have Determination.
It's just too good of a combo.

It's only 5 hp ship so it pretty often can die without single crit. Lone Wolf costs only 1 pt more and works every turn.

repeat after me: Leebo WANTS Determination

Less likely to if you run it with Recon or Lando as crew, particularly with re-rolls as die modifications being so popular now

Focus-based die modifications lower the 1:3 ratio of Crit to Non-Crit damage, while re-rolls maintain it. With any form of damage mitigation, the likelihood of uncanceled damage being Critical climbs, as it must cancel Non-Crit damage first. Improve your mitigation, see more crits, cancel more with the Leebomination, enjoy.

Leebomination, incidentally, discards 41% of incoming critical damage with an unknown damage deck.

Without needing actions.

With 5 hull and 2 agility (behind 5 shields).

Listen to Dracon. I have agreed with him on this and many many other topics

Yeah, I usually use Lone Wolf for the late game. Whoever Chewie is paired with (I've run him with Corran before instead of Leebo) usually falls first, so Lone Wolf allows him to pack a little extra punch once he's on his own.

Yes, he's extremely hard to kill. My thinking behind it is that the opponent will chase Leebo and I will try to stay in close to the opponent with Chewie and commit to as many range 1 attacks as I can, weaken my opponent or get him down to one or two ships (depending on his list) and Chewie pretty much has the game since in a one on one, Chewie simply won't die without some exceptionally good/bad rolls.

PtL on Leebo is usually for TL+Focus, but can allow TL+Barrel Roll too if I need to get out of arc.

Predator would be a compelling alternative, haven't tested it with the Mangler yet. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I'd agree with your point about the HLC, if I'm going to use Leebo as my heavy hitter, he should hit as hard as possible.

Agreed, I really should use it more. I haven't had a chance to practice with Determination much, only a couple of solo practice games so far. But I liked it and I know it's the popular choice for Leebo.
