Rebel/Empire ship equivalence

By SonofaBith, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked loads before, but I was hoping to know what sort of ships pair off well against others in an opposite faction (not collecting S&V just yet). So far I have 1 X-wing, 1 Y-Wing, 2 Ties and 1 Tie Advanced. I plan on buying in pairs, as my kid brother is my only opponent so far and cash-strapped. Plus I get a stamp for spending over €25 at the local game store. So essentially, what are the best pairs to buy, assuming I'm getting one per faction and purchasing in-movie ships as priority. Want to get A wing, B wing, Tie Bomber and Interceptor soon, but can't afford more than 2 just yet. Not into meta, just a bit of fun.

Basically, the game was "Balanced" per wave.

X and Y vs Fighter and Advanced is Wave 1. You should grab the X-Wing and TIE Fighter Expansions to finish it out; they have unique upgrades and pilots.

Wave 2 is A-Wings and the Falcon vs Interceptors and the Slave 1, in addition to the Wave 1 stuff.

Wave 3 is B-Wings and the HWK vs Bombers and the Shuttle.

Et Cetera Et Cetera.

My rule of thumb:
Big ship vs big ship (falcon/outride vs deci/slave vs IG)

Z95s vs Tie Fighters

rest is roughly the same in points (yes i look at points in this rule), so whatever pair you buy its should be ok.

From your list: think about Rebel Aces. Its same price range as A+B and got some really nice cards for tournament play later.

Interceptor is a solid buy.

Bomber is fun only, but it can give you lots of fun for now in my collection i swapped it for Tie Defender.

Thanks, those pairings were more or less what I assumed. Going to hold off on big ships, aces packs and duplicates for now. Just want to get a variety of ships together before I go squad building tactically. Probably go for a wing and interceptor next

Just a word of advice on non-aces awing: its super boring imho. Maybe PTL/Tycho is interesting.

Consider swapping for Bwing, contents of B expansion are more fun to play with, but you miss PTL then and that is ultra fun on Soontir (3 actions per turn ;) ).

Also big ships really bring depth to the game (i know they cost 2xsmall ones $$), especially falcon and slave 1 can bring some really fun casual builds to play.
