No more than one of each command token?

By knasserII, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I've just read the new FAQ and under Garm Bel Iblis it says a ship may not have more than one of a type of command token.

Most of the FAQs I can connect to a part of the rules, but I've no idea where this comes from. Is there something in the rules that says or implies you can't have more than one of a type? I've never noticed and can't find such a rule.

Thanks.

So the reason this came up was because the rules state that when you gain a token you replace any existing tokens of that type with it.

Garm however made the tokens all come in at once so there were no tokens to replace and none to trigger that rule. This FAQ fixes that issue.

On Page 3 of the Rules Reference under Command Tokens, Bullet Point 3 essentially says that you can't have two of the same command tokens.

There was some confusion about whether due to timing and language Garm can allow a ship to have 3 of the same tokens.

Thanks. Been playing this game for weeks and never noticed that one line. Strange what can be right in front of you and not seen. That's going to make Tarkin less appealing than he was.

Tarkin never worked the way you think he worked, I guess.

p3 of the RRG says you can only have one command token of each type, so if you use Tarkin to bring in a Navigate token and one of your ships already has a Navigate token, he only keeps one Navigate token, he can't keep two.

I guess Garm Bel Iblis was just worded poorly hence the FAQ to clear it up. People have a tendency to read and interpret things in a way that is best for them... :D

I've seen a few guys run with Garm in their lists but none have tried to get more than one type of token. Even if Garm says you can gain a number of command tokens equal to it's command value, the only "rule" that Garm is breaking is the ability to get tokens --- normally from un-spent/converted command dials. Nothing in his description says his ability overrides the RRG Command Tokens rule on p3.
