I was but the learner...

You’ll also find in the GM Kit rules for crafting custom lightsabers in game, and guidelines for knight-level play, in which the PCs start the game with advanced skills, talents and Force powers, allowing them to perform truly incredible feats and take on even deadlier adversaries.

Hehe...I like the file name on the first art piece, "faster would be better."

Now is the time to drop the Dark Side on my galaxy hopping players...

My kids want to start out at knight-level play. Fortunately, I have time for two games - one with my kids, and one with my Friday night regulars.

The thing that caught my eye is that they mention Moraband not Korriban.

It may have been mentioned elsewhere but does this mean the the info in the CRBs canon or do they mix canon and non-canon stuff?

I know RPGs themselves can change things because they are set in a established galaxy to begin with but this just caught my attention and made me think and question some things in the now new canon.

The RPGs are definitely Legends. I'm sure they'll try and hew close to Canon, but they are nothing in them will be considered Real. The only things Canon are listed in the Del Ray books and such, and include the Movies, TV Shows, Comics, and Novels.

Sweet. I thought that was the case. I was just curious as I know some of the stuff is canon like Moraband for example but then we haven't had any examples of the Chiss species yet in canon.

But it does make sense they try and hew close to the canon because some stuff in these books may be used in the new canon like the Inquistors were from one of the older SW RPG lines and then put into Rebels.

I'm curious what information is included with the GM kit that lets you make "custom lightsabers." More accurately, I'm wondering if they removed stuff from the beta and put it there? The Knight-level play as well, though I thought there was wording in the product description that said it was more of an expansion of Knight-level.

Whatever. Still excited. Still waiting to get the kit until after I've played with the core for a while.

Yeah, it reads like they pushed content we were expecting to be in the CRB into the GM kit instead because . . . space issues? Dunno. Was hoping to see something new.

I could understand if it was space issues, but it smacks more of "first day DLC" than anything else. I could be wrong -- I hope I'm wrong -- but we won't know for a few more days.

I believe it was cut for alternate Force traditions...

No, it's just Professor Yana. . . .

Guy on the Reddit thread with the book early said there's the same number of Lightsaber attachments and rules for Knight Level play are all in the Core (he doesn't have the GM Kit to give info on that). So the GM Kit definitely is some sort of expansion on everything. For Knight Level, it'll likely be tips on how to scale experience and credits to certain points.

I own both and can confirm. The base rules are all in the CRB; the stuff in the GM Kit just for GMing advice on how to adjudicate things and the like.

Yeah, the GM Kit just gives tips and suggestions on handling PCs that are at "Knight Level" while also making it clear that said term is short-hand for "fairly experienced characters."

What do the lightsaber rules add? What are they about?

Constructing hilt coverings. Rules are pretty simple, make adding the first attachment mod easier and add a few boons, depending on how well you roll (decreased encumbrance and more hard points, for one).

So something I should get, then?

That's your decision, man.

To be more precise, custom hilts allow the user to add for free 1 mod from the first attachment they add. Advantage, Triumph, Threat and Despair can vary the cost, encumbrance and hard points. Other than that, it's just a set of rules determining difficulty and the like. I haven't read the Knight level rules all the way, but they seem to just be advice to the GM for dealing and working with the ramifications of the option, as well as playing with high XP players.

Yeah, the rules on the custom hilts are neat, but by no means extraordinary.

The extra hard point would really only come into play as a tangible benefit for things like the shoto hilt or maybe double-bladed 'saber hilt, since those have fewer starting hard points than a basic lightsaber hilt, and right now there's not a whole lot of customization options to really pile into a lightsaber.

Crystal requires 2, customized hilt (to gain superior quality) is 1 hard point, maybe one of the other hilt mods (curved or extended) is also 1 hard point, or the dual-phase mode for 2 hard points.

Plus, while you get one free modification, under the normal rules that modification would be against an Easy difficulty, which is next to impossible to fail unless your PC has an Intellect of 1. And it still counts as a modification,so the second check would still be at an Average difficulty, so really the only thing you're saving is 100 credits.

Personally, I was kinda hoping the crystals offered in the adventure would be different from those in the core rulebook, but the adventure just treats them as Ilum crystals with a different name.

Moraband is Korriban. Georgie didn't like the original name, so when Yoda went there at the end of the Clone Wars cartoon series he had it changed to Moraband. Last I heard, the cartoon is "mostly" cannon so any future referrences to the planet will probably be with an M and not a K.

Yeah I was aware of this. It just caught my eye and I was curious is all. Personally to me just like some planets have multiple names so does this one. In the Old Republic era and earlier it is known by Korriban. Then when the time of the Clone Wars it's Moraband. But that's just me lol
