Tie advanced title... Really

By Saionide, in X-Wing

Well I stop posting and it gets derailed... Anyway back to the flames please. I hope x wings get an auto destruct button that shoots astromech bits across the whole play area!

Still want to defend him, Darius?

Why defend anyone when you all immediately jump to conclusions? I disagree with their choice of balancing for the tie advanced. Instead of constructed pros and cons most of you jumped down my throat. Then someone got hurt and offended by my language. I stopped posting and you all carried on for 4 pages. No I am not who you think I am. Yes my first few rules questions were because I was new not because I am some closet troll like you assume. As I said in the last post carry on with your flames.

Look on the bright side, at least he called it "retarded" in steady of "gay".

Instead of constructed pros and cons

A wings have to lose their missile slot to reduce 2 points and you go and give tie advanced a free guaranteed two hit results or free add a crit result to your attack??? So rediculously stupid!

You should make an imperial only free upgrade that gives them all 12 attack at any range lmfao.

Can you really criticize people for not constructing calm, sensible and non-flamey arguments when that post is what you opened the thread with?

Yes my first few rules questions were because I was new not because I am some closet troll like you assume.

People don't assume you're a troll because you posted a few rules questions, that's what the forum's for. People assume you're a troll because you started a wildly mispelled flame thread against FFG.

Then someone got hurt and offended by my language.

I believe the noun you're looking for there is "invective."

Had you started your thread like this...

"What's up with the TIE/x1 upgrade? It gives the TIE advanced either an automatic two hits (Accuracy Corrector) or an additional crit (Advanced Targeting Computer) for free. When you compare this to the A-wing's Chaardan Refit, where it has to give up its missile slot for a 2 point cost reduction, doesn't this seem unbalanced?"

...you probably would have got a response like this:

"The TIE advanced got a bigger buff than the A-wing because it was worse off to start with: the A-wing was too pricey to run in numbers but the TIE advanced was so bad that the Empire were effectively down a ship. This was apparent as early as Wave 3 and and it got worse as time went on: the difference between two and three attack dice is huge: the TIE advanced's problem is that it's far too lacking in firepower. A basic TIE advanced simply can't compete against any form of damage mitigation. It had neither the maneuverability, raw attack power or numerical strength to put up a decent fight. With its buff it's on par with most other ships.

It's also worth remembering that Advanced Targeting Computer isn't as good as it looks: it either telegraphs your target and forces you to stay on them or it eats up your actions. The power of that automatic crit is offset by the difficulty of maintaining that lock."

Yeah the fact that someone starts a thread like the OP does and then acts shocked when he gets responses in kind is something I find both funny and sad at the same time.

Plus there were a number of reasonable posts made before anything even remotely negative was said.

Not shocked at all. Forums = flamewars 90% of the time.

If the main reason for "balance/fix" is the lack of use then start working on other ships too. The syk, defender, HWK, can't say x wing because people use Biggs/Wedge. It is a competitive game where they add upgrade cards into ship packages that suck so people buy them for the cards. They could have spent a wave to revisit the problem children of each faction. There will come a point in time when there is too many ships for all to see play and or a set of ships that you would be hurting your own chances of you didn't run (some say fat turrets for this now)

And that means you should try to start them wherever you go?

They ARE! Sheesh. What do you expect? For them to come out with a dozen well playtested expansions every month? We have been told that wave 8 was basically done before the Scyk was even released. How do you expect them to know it isn't being played as much as they want before it even comes out? Every release for the past, what, 2 years has included stuff to rebalance less used ships and make the meta more diverse.

In the last few release cycles (including 7 and raider) they have released cards that "fix" the A-Wing, Y-Wing, TIE Advanced, TIE Bomber, B-Wing, TIE Interceptors, HWKs, TIE Defenders and maybe more and nerfed Phantoms. The only really notable absence is the X-Wing (and that may be announced tomorrow). Anything else that might need "fixed" hasn't been out long enough for the fix to show up.

And all that covers things that weren't really broken in the first place, just that they weren't in the meta the way they wanted them to be.

However, I find your quote above rather telling. Forums very rarely descend into flame wars in my experience, which implies there's something different about the forums you go on, and possibly with the way you post on them. It's possible you've got so used to flamewars on forums that you're inadvertently (or deliberate, like I said I don't like to assume) triggering them, or are drawn to them.

Well, if you wouldn't post then that 90% would drop to near 0%.

Maybe the developers decided that 5 Prototype Pilots with Proton Rockets, Chardan Refit, and Munitions Fail-safe for only 95 points was too overpowered, so they made is a choice of which to you want to equip to the missile slot.

The Tie Advanced, as others mentioned, was almost never used, and when it was it was Vader. When new players asked what they should get, one of the first things they'd be told was not to get the Advanced, unless they were just really into Darth Vader. This left the empire short one ship.

To be fair though, who's into Star Wars but isn't really into Darth Vader?

Force Choke lacks subtlety. It's all about knocking objects onto peoples heads using Force Push, or using Mind Trick to persuade them to jump off the balcony.

Nope, but that's ok. my point is that a level headed response would have prevented this.

I imagine a lot of people after the prequels came out.

A) what are these prequels you talk of i don't think they exist and your having a fever dream sir.

2) see 1.

You assume they're into Star Wars at all?

Well, I should say unless you're really into Vader as a Star Wars character, rather than as an X-wing game piece.

All that black leather just does it for me y'know.

I'm not completely convinced that the title will bring the TIE Advanced into competitive play. It makes it immensely better, but is it enough?

If epic play ever becomes a thing, I can see a lot of ships seeing the table that don't very often

On a side note just to let people know that not everyones mind goes to the worst possible idea of word. I tend to think analyticaly when I read, I thought fellow nerds would too.

The term retard and retarded are mechanical terms use to describe something that is or needs to be in the negative or backwards. This kind of a lose interpretation but gets the mechanical idea across. So used in this context the term is saying the x1 tital taking a step back.

Now I'm not saying the word was used here with that intent, but what I can say is that people all jumped to the worst possible use for the word.

Maybe we as a society are to blame here for letting our minds and our language be hijacked for use for other people's ideals.

Seriously, can this thread just die already?
